Proton transfer and a dielectric phase transition in the molecular conductor (HDABCO+)2(TCNQ)3

One-dimensional dielectric (N.H.N)( infinity ) hydrogen-bonding chains of monoprotonated 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (HDABCO(+)) were introduced into an electrically conducting 7,7,8,8-tetracyano-p-quinodimethane (TCNQ) salt as the countercation structure. Room-temperature electrical conductivity was approximately 10(-)(3) S cm(-)(1), with a semiconductive behavior. The temperature-dependent dielectric constants of (HDABCO(+))(2)(TCNQ)(3) indicated a dielectric transition at 306 K. A large deuterium isotope effect for the dielectric transition (DeltaT = 70 K) was observed for the deuterated salt, (DDABCO(+))(2)(TCNQ)(3). Thermally activated order/disorder of the protons or deuteriums within the one-dimensional hydrogen-bonding chains of (HDABCO(+))( infinity ) and (DDABCO(+))( infinity ) affected the dielectric responses in the TCNQ-based semiconductors.     

A convenient preparation of N- (arenesulfonyl) sulfoximines by oxidation of N- (arenesulfonyl) sulfilimines with sodium hypochlorite in a two phase system

N-(Arenesulfonyl) sulfilimines can be oxidized to the corresponding sulfoximes in high yields with sodium hypochlorite in an AcOEt-H₂O two phase system in the presence of quaternary ammonium salts as catalysts.

3-Methylindole is converted via treatment of intermediate lithium 2-lithio-3-methylindole-l-carboxylate with dimethylformamide or methyl formate, as formylating agent, into 2-formyl-3-methylindole in 54% overall yield in a one-pot procedure.     

Strong solutions of stochastic equations with rank-based coefficients

We study finite and countably infinite systems of stochastic differential equations, in which the drift and diffusion coefficients of each component (particle) are determined by its rank in the vector of all components of the solution. We show that strong existence and uniqueness hold until the first time three particles collide. Motivated by this result, we improve significantly the existing conditions for the absence of such triple collisions in the case of finite-dimensional systems, and provide the first condition of this type for systems with a countable infinity of particles.

Charge-transfer (CT) complexes were prepared using racemic (rac)-10,10′-dihydroxy-9,9′-biphenanthryl, which has a large and highly π-conjugated phenanthrene ring, as the electron donor and p-benzoquinone as the electron acceptor. This CT system showed a polymorphism.
