Space-Time Directional Lyapunov Exponents for Cellular Automata

Space-time directional Lyapunov exponents are introduced. They describe the maximal velocity of propagation to the right or to the left of fronts of perturbations in a frame moving with a given velocity. The continuity of these exponents as function of the velocity and an inequality relating them to the directional entropy is proved.     

Stability of vertices in random boolean cellular automata

Based on computer simulations, Kauffman (Physica D, 10, 145-156, 1984) made several generalizations about a random Boolean cellular automaton which he invented as a model of cellular metabolism. Here we give the first rigorous proofs of two of Kauffman's generalizations: a large fraction of vertices stabilize quickly, consequently the length of cycles in the automaton's behavior is small compared to that of a random mapping with the same number of states; and reversal of the states of a large fraction of the vertices does not affect the cycle to which the automaton moves.     

Cycles in a random graph near the critical point

Let G(n, M) be a graph chosen at random from the family of all labelled graphs with n vertices and M(n) = 0.5n + s(n) edges, where s³(n)n^?2→∞ but s(n) = o(n). We find the limit distribution of the length of shortest cycle contained in the largest component of G(n, M), as well as of the longest cycle outside it. We also describe the block structure of G(n, M) and derive from this result the limit probability that G(n, M) contains a cycle with a diagonal. Finally, we show that the probability tending to 1 as n-→∞ the length of the longest cycle in G(n, M) is of the order s²(n)/n.     

Regularization of Discrete Ill-Posed Problems

The paper concerns conditioning aspects of finite-dimensional problems arising when the Tikhonov regularization is applied to discrete ill-posed problems. A relation between the regularization parameter and the sensitivity of the regularized solution is investigated. The main conclusion is that the condition number can be decreased only to the square root of that for the nonregularized problem. The convergence of solutions of regularized discrete problems to the exact generalized solution is analyzed just in the case when the regularization corresponds to the minimal condition number. The convergence theorem is proved under the assumption of the suitable relation between the discretization level and the data error. As an example the method of truncated singular value decomposition with regularization is considered. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

The Variational Approach to the Scalar Field Theory in Curved Einstein Space

The variational approach based on the covariant quantization method for the curved Einstein space is applied.     

Spectral decomposition of an elementary 3-fermion 2-body operator

The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of an elementary 3-fermion 2-body operator 3P²_g∧I¹A³∑_{1≤i≤j≤3}P²_g(i, j)A³ acting on a 3-particle antisymmetric finite-dimensional Hilbert space have been found. Here P_g² denotes the projection operator onto a 2-particle antisymmetric function g², while A³ denotes the 3-particle antisymmetrizing operator.     

On Non-Continuous Dirichlet Processes

We introduce here some Itô calculus for non-continuous Dirichlet processes. Such calculus extends what was known for continuous Dirichlet processes or for semimartingales. In particular we prove that non-continuous Dirichlet processes are stable under C ¹ transformation.
