Over the last few years, breath analysis for the routine monitoring of metabolic disorders has attracted a considerable amount of scientific interest, especially since breath sampling is a non-invasive technique, totally painless and agreeable to patients. The investigation of human breath samples with various analytical methods has shown a correlation between the concentration patterns of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and the occurrence of certain diseases. It has been demonstrated that modern analytical instruments allow the determination of many compounds found in human breath both in normal and anomalous concentrations. The composition of exhaled breath in patients with, for example, lung cancer, inflammatory lung disease, hepatic or renal dysfunction and diabetes contains valuable information. Furthermore, the detection and quantification of oxidative stress, and its monitoring during surgery based on composition of exhaled breath, have made considerable progress. This paper gives an overview of the analytical techniques used for sample collection, preconcentration and analysis of human breath composition. The diagnostic potential of different disease-marking substances in human breath for a selection of diseases and the clinical applications of breath analysis are discussed. 相似文献

Mitotane is a cytotoxic drug used in the treatment of inoperable adrenocortical carcinoma, it inhibits steroidogenesis as well, and therefore monitoring the level of steroid hormones in patients treated with mitotane is a crucial point of therapy. Hence, we have developed a simple, fast, and efficient electrophoretic method combined with reverse polarity sweeping as online preconcentration technique and dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction for the simultaneous determination of mitotane, its main metabolite DDA, and five steroid hormones (progesterone, testosterone, epitestosterone, cortisol, and corticosterone) in urine samples. In addition, a new sample matrix consisting of β-CD2SDS1 complexes for a high hydrophobic compounds solubilization was developed. Approach based on the application of β-cyclodextrin and SDS complex of a ratio 2:1 allowed for hydrodynamic injection into the capillary of a solution containing both mitotane and other analytes. The detection limits of the analytes for the reverse polarity sweeping-dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction method were found to be in the range of 1.5–3 ng/mL, which were approximately 1000 times lower than in the conventional hydrodynamic injection (5 s, 0.5 psi) without any preconcentration procedure. All analytes were completely resolved in less than 13 min by uncoated silica capillary with an inner diameter of 75 μm (ID) × 60 cm. Simple-structured, well-functioned disposable poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microchips were developed for capillary isoelectric focusing with whole column imaging detection (CIEF-WCID). The present study aimed to determine changes in the properties of starch triggered by its long-lasting (1, 2, 4, 7, 10, or 14 days) retention with citric acid (5 g/100 g) at a temperature of 40 °C. The starch citrates obtained under laboratory conditions had a low degree of substitution, as confirmed via NMR and HPSEC analyses. The prolonging time of starch retention with citric acid at 40 °C contributed to its increased esterification degree (0.05–0.11 g/100 g), swelling power (30–38 g/g), and solubility in water (19–35%) as well as to decreased viscosity of the starch pastes. Starch heating with citric acid under the applied laboratory conditions did not affect the course of DSC thermal characteristics of starch pasting. act as sensors for the fluorescence detection of small inorganic cations (lithium, sodium, barium, magnesium and calcium)
in solvents of different polarities (THF and acetonitrile). The mechanism, which allows application of these compounds as
sensors, is an electron transfer from the electro-donative part of molecule to the acceptor part (fluorophore), which is retarded
upon complexation of the electro-donative part by inorganic cations. We found that crown ether-containing compound is very
sensitive to the addition of any investigated ions but amino alcohol-containing one exhibits better selectivity to the addition
