We propose a simple abstract version of Calderón–Zygmund theory, which is applicable to spaces with exponential volume growth, and then show that important specific operators can be treated within this framework.

Biocompatible, hydrophobic ferrofluids comprised of magnetite nanoparticles dispersed in polydimethylsiloxane show promise as materials for the treatment of retinal detachment. This paper focuses on the motion of hydrophobic ferrofluid droplets traveling through viscous aqueous media, whereby the movement is induced by gradients in external fields generated by small permanent magnets. A numerical method was utilized to predict the force on a spherical droplet, and then the calculated force was used to estimate the time required for the droplet to reach the permanent magnet. High spin states of 126La have been populated using the reaction 116Sn+14N at 68 MeV. γ-rays and conversion electrons were detected with the GAREL array. Multipolarities of the lowest-lying in-band
dipole transitions have been determined from the deduced internal conversion coefficients. Experimental B(M1)/B(E2) ratios
have been derived for the bands and compared with calculated values using the D?nau-Frauendorf geometrical model. Configurations
are proposed for the bands comparing them with cranked shell model calculations and on the basis of the measured B(M1)/B(E2)
ratios. The β-decay of 126La has also been revisited. The population of the 126Ba levels gives a probable spin value of five for the decaying high-spin 126La state with T
1/2≈ 64 s which may indicate a signature inversion in the πh11/2νh11/2 band.

Scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) was used to investigate the effect of ion bombardment on thin films of the conducting polymers poly[3-ethoxy-thiophene] (PEOT) and poly[ethylenedioxy-thiophene] (PEDT). Bombardment with Ar+-ions converts the topmost 30 nm thick layer to an essentially insulating material. SECM approach curves as well as two dimensional scans prove the existence of regions of different conductivity within the irradiated regions that did not show a significant dependence on ion dosage. PEDT layers patterned by ion bombardment through microscopic masks are investigated as prototypes of miniaturized printed circuit boards that can be formed by galvanic copper deposition onto conducting PEDT. Defects in conducting polymer patterns were analyzed by SECM imaging before any deposition of copper. Appropriate representations of SECM images for the evaluation of this technologically important question are discussed. 相似文献

In this paper k-sets of type (a, b) with respect to hyperplanes are constructed in finite projective spaces using powers of Singer cycles. These are then used to construct further examples of sets of type (a, b) using various disjoint sets. The parameters of the associated strongly regular graphs are also calculated. The construction technique is then related to work of Foulser and Kallaher classifying rank three subgroups of AL(1, p

Free-carrier absorption (FCA) has proven to be an important obstacle in the development of a silicon-based laser; however, FCA may serve as a potential advantage in active silicon-based switches or modulators. In this work, we present FCA modulation in slot waveguides with silicon nanocrystals (Si-ncs) embedded in SiO(2) as the low-index slot material. Slot waveguides were fabricated with and without Si-ncs, and the presence of Si-ncs was shown to increase the pump-induced FCA loss in the waveguides by a factor of 4.5. We modeled the Si-nc material using a four-level rate equation analysis to estimate the excited population of Si-ncs, allowing us to extract a value of 2.6 × 10(-17) cm(2) for the FCA cross section of the Si-nc material. 相似文献

In nature, some peptides induce precipitation of silicic acid into silica nanoparticles such as is found in marine algae called diatoms. However, polybasic polymers can act as peptide mimics; one such polymer, polyethyleneimine (PEI), has the advantage that it is stable at room temperature and is inexpensive, in comparison with synthetic peptides. We describe the fabrication and characterization of biosilicate nanoparticles formed by mimicking the peptides using PEI. Brownian motion nanoparticle tracking analysis and field emission gun scanning electron microscopy have been used for the first time to characterize nanoparticles made with tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) and PEI to investigate the fundamental factors that affect particle properties. These factors include the effect of phosphate concentration, PEI molecular weight, TMOS concentration, and species of alkoxy-silane used. The properties of the particles are compared with other particles made with polymers that induce silication. Our results show that using PEI gives differences in particle size compared with previous work using other polymers that induce silication. The entrapment of enzymes during the silication process, rationale for using nonphosphate and phosphate buffers during enzyme entrapment, and the analysis of enzyme activity are also presented. Because enzymes can be entrapped during fabrication, it means that there are many future possibilities for the use of silicate nanoparticles containing enzymes, such as biosensors and biocatalytic reactors. 相似文献

The highly anisotropic material CsBi(4)Te(6) was prepared by the reaction of Cs/Bi(2)Te(3) around 600 degrees C. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m with a = 51.9205(8) A, b = 4.4025(1) A, c = 14.5118(3) A, beta = 101.480(1) degrees, V = 3250.75(11) A(3), and Z = 8. The final R values are R(1) = 0.0585 and wR(2) = 0.1127 for all data. The compound has a 2-D structure composed of NaCl-type [Bi(4)Te(6)] anionic layers and Cs(+) ions residing between the layers. The [Bi(4)Te(6)] layers are interconnected by Bi-Bi bonds at a distance of 3.2383(10) A. This material is a narrow gap semiconductor. Optimization studies on the thermoelectric properties with a variety of doping agents show that the electrical properties of CsBi(4)Te(6) can be tuned to yield an optimized thermoelectric material which is promising for low-temperature applications. SbI(3) doping resulted in p-type behavior and a maximum power factor of 51.5 microW/cm.K(2) at 184 K and the corresponding ZT of 0.82 at 225 K. The highest power factor of 59.8 microW/cm.K(2) at 151 K was obtained from 0.06% Sb-doped material. We report here the synthesis, physicochemical properties, doping characteristics, charge-transport properties, and thermal conductivity. Dimeric poly(ethylene oxide) surfactants (or nonionic gemini surfactants) with the structure (Cn-2H2n-3CHCH2O(CH2CH2O)mH)2(CH2)6 (or GemnEm), where n is the alkyl length and m is the average number of ethylene oxides per head group, were synthesized. Surfactants were synthesized with alkyl chain lengths n = 12, 14, and 20 and m = 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30. Water solubilities and cloud temperatures at 1 wt% were determined by measuring turbidity as a function of temperature. Cloud temperatures increase with m and decrease with n, as observed for conventional surfactants. For large m the cloud temperatures were all above 100 degrees C. Surfactants with small m (i.e., n = 12, 14, m = 5 and n = 20, m = 10) were insoluble at room temperature, forming two-phase mixtures. Critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) were measured using a pyrene fluorescence method and are all in the range of 10(-7) to 10(-6) M, with the lowest values from the surfactants with large n and small m. CMCs of mixtures with both anionic and nonionic conventional (monomeric) surfactants were well described by an ideal mixing model. 相似文献
