Interpretation of toroidal current and loop voltage temporal evolution during RF-current drive experiment on the T-7 tokamak

A simple analytical model is developed and solved to describe time evolution of the loop voltage and toroidal current when RF and inductive current drive take place simultaneously. A relation for the real value of the RF driven current has been obtained under these conditions. Comparison with experimental data from T-7 tokamak allows to estimate the role of the skin effect during RF current drive.The authors would like to thank A. Ya. Non-linear superposition in non-linear evolution equations

Special non-linear evolution equations are discussed and classified in integrable and non-integrable partial differential equations. Important methods of solution are sketched. An interesting task is the calculation of the so-called superposition functions permitting to construct from a few known solutions whole chains of further solutions. For integrable partial differential equations they are computed with the help of BÄcklund transformations providing a rather general superposition rule for special types of solutions. At present however a consistent treatment of non-linear evolution equations is only possible in 1 + 1 space and time dimensions. The extension to higher space dimensions brings many problems. An insight into the results and problems in the one-dimensional case is given together with an outlook indicating the conceptual difficulties for a treatment in higher space dimensions.Presented at the International Conference Selected Topics in Quantum Field Theory and Mathematical Physics, Bechyn, Czechoslovakia, June 23–27, 1986.     

Multiparticle excitations in142Nd

An (α, 2nγ) in-beam study of excited states in 142Nd revealed 27 new levels on top of the 6⁺ isomer. Nanosecond lifetimes were found for two levels. The measured excitation energies were compared with spherical shell-model predictions obtained from suitably truncated model spaces.     

g-Factor of the first 2+ state in theN=82 nucleus138Ba

The 2 ₁ ⁺ level of¹³⁸Ba has been Coulomb excited with a 105 MeV³²S beam. The precession of the gamma ray angular distribution induced by the transient magnetic field when traversing a 2.14 mg/cm² iron foil, has been measured to be 15.6(1.7) mr. A value of g(¹³⁸Ba 2 ₁ ⁺ )=0.72(11) was obtained assuming for the transient field strength the Chalk River calibration. The field parametrization has been checked using the first 2⁺ state in¹⁵⁰Sm as probe. Theg value obtained is sensibly lower than predicted by large scale shell model calculations in a proton subspace. Theg-factor of the first 2⁺ state in¹⁴⁸Sm has been remeasured yieldingg(¹⁴⁸Sm 2 ₁ ⁺ )=0.246(22).
