Cochran's statistical theorem for outer inverses of matrices and matrix quadratic forms

We extend the matrix version of Cochran's statistical theorem to outer inverses of a matrix. As applications, we investigate the Wishartness and independence of matrix quadratic forms for Kronecker product covariance structures.     

Estimation of kinetics parameters for the adsorption of human serum albumin onto hydroxyapatite-modified silver electrodes by piezoelectric quartz crystal impedance analysis.

The adsorption of human serum albumin onto hydroxyapatite-modified silver electrodes has been in situ investigated by utilizing the piezoelectric quartz crystal impedance technique. The changes of equivalent circuit parameters were used to interpret the adsorption process. A kinetic model of two consecutive steps was derived to describe the process and compared with a first-order kinetic model by using residual analysis. The experimental data of frequency shift fitted to the model and kinetics parameters, k1, k2, psi1, psi2 and qr, were obtained. All fitted results were in reasonable agreement with the corresponding experimental results. Two adsorption constants (7.19 kJ mol(-1) and 22.89 kJ mol(-1)) were calculated according to the Arrhenius formula.     

Synthesis of some chiral liquid crystals and study of the effect of intramolecular hydrogen bonding on the phase behaviour

The synthesis of three new series of chiral Schiff's bases containing benzilideneaniline and 2-hydroxybenzilideneaniline moieties as mesogenic cores is presented. Differential scanning calorimetry, optical polarizing microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements were used to study the phase transition temperatures and behaviour. The results reveal that most of these materials show chiral smectic mesomorphism.

在ｐＨ９．５ＮＨ３ＮＨ４Ｃｌ缓冲溶液中，Ｍｎ（Ⅱ）与邻菲口罗啉形成的配合物在－１．３６Ｖ（ｖｓ．ＳＣＥ）处产生一灵敏的吸附波，一阶导数峰电流与Ｍｎ（Ⅱ）浓度在５×１０－８５×１０－６ｍｏｌ／Ｌ范围内呈线性关系，检出限为２×１０－８ｍｏｌ／Ｌ对极谱性质及反应机理进行了研究，用该法测定了大豆和茶叶中的微量锰，结果满意     

Study of occupational health impact of atmospheric pollution on exposed workers at an iron and steel complex by using neutron activation analysis of scalp hair

The occupational health impact of atmospheric pollution on exposed workers at one iron and steel complex was studied by instrumental neutron activation analysis of workers' hair samples and medical examination. The experimental results indicate that there is a positive correlation between the high inhalation amounts of iron and other trace elements by the exposed workers and the symptom of their high blood pressure and hypoglycemia, which implies that the atmospheric environment polluted by iron and steel industry has an adverse health impact on the exposed workers. The measures to relieve and abate the occupational diseases caused by air-borne particulate matter should be taken     

Separation of gallic acid from Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc by high-speed counter-current chromatography

Gallic acid was separated from a n-butanol extract of the fruit of Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc by high-speed countercurrent chromatography in two steps using two solvent systems composed of ethyl-acetate-ethanol n-butanol-water (5:1.8:6, v/v/v) and ethyl acetate-ethanol-water (5:0.5:6, v/v/v) successively. From 1 g of n-butanol extract the method produced 60 mg of gallic acid at a purity of 97%.     

Spectrophotometric determination of thorium in food using 2-(2,5-disulfonic-4-methoxyphenylazo)-7-(2-hydroxyl-5-carboxylphenylazo)-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid

A new highly sensitive and selective chromogenic reagent, 2-(2,5-disulfonic-4-methoxyphenylazo)-7-(2-hydroxyl-5-carboxylphenylazo)-1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid (1), was synthesized and applied to the spectrophotometric determination of trace thorium. In 5 mL of a 6 M perchloric acid medium, which greatly increases the selectivity, thorium reacts with 1 to form a 1: 2 green complex, having a sensitive absorption peak at 670 nm. Under optimal conditions, Beer’s law is obeyed over the range from 0 to 0.8 μg/mL Th(IV) and the apparent molar absorptivity is 2.09 × 10⁵ L/mol cm. It is found that, uranium(VI), Ti(IV), heavy rare earths, and most of other common metal ions do not interfere. The method has been tested on the determination of thorium in food samples with satisfactory results. The text was submitted by the authors in English.     

Synthesis and Structural Characterization of cis- and trans-bis(4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine)cadmium(II) Nitrates Prepared in a One-pot Reaction

The cis and trans isomers of [Cd(dmbpy)₂](NO₃)₂] (dmbpy = 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine) have been synthesized simultaneously via a one-pot reaction of Cd(NO₃)₂ · 4H₂O with the dmbpy ligand in a MeOH/H₂O mixture; they can be obtained individually by means of the mechanical separation due to their different growing habit of the single-crystals. Different π-stacking interactions are observed in the cis and trans isomers forming different one-dimensional networks. The outcome of the DFT calculations agrees well with the experimental results.
