Y-931, a novel atypical antipsychotic drug,is less sensitive to oxidative phenomena

The oxidation behavior of Y-931, a potent atypical antipsychotic drug, was compared with that of clozapine and olanzapine. In two enzymatic systems (horseradish peroxidase (HRP)/glutathione (GSH) and HRP/H(2)O(2)/GSH) which generate thiyl radicals, clozapine markedly strengthened the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal for the radical. Olanzapine, Y-931 and the major metabolites (compounds 1-3) had no or minimal effect on the intensity of this signal. In addition, the redox potential values for the three derivatives were in accord with the EPR spin trapping results. In toxicological experiments in human leukocytes, a concentration-dependent toxicity was observed when neutrophils were incubated with clozapine (1-10 micromol/l) and H(2)O(2) (1 mmol/l). However, Y-931 and olanzapine did not show remarkable toxicity under the conditions.     

Reactivities of Stable Rotamers: XLIV. Ring-Opening Reactions of 1-(9-Fluorenyl)-2-(2-methyl-2-oxiranyl)naphthalene Rotamers With Acids and the Structure of Oxiranes

X-ray crystallography of the ap-form of the 1-(9-fluorenyl)-2-(2-methyl-2-oxiranyl)naphthalene has revealed that the carbon atom of the oxirane which is connected to the naphthyl group in this compound is almost planar. The specific structural features of the epoxy ring in this compound are caused by sterical effects and by the presence of a -system in the immediate vicinity of the oxirane ring. Certain differences have been found also in reactivity of rotational isomers of 2-X-substituted 1-[1-(9-fluorenyl)-2-naphthyl]ethyl cations (X = O, S, Se). At X = O arose more deprotonation product from the -position of the oxygen than in reactions of sulfur and selenium-containing analogs. Reactions of epoxides with zinc chloride almost exclusively gave the corresponding aldehydes.     

Surfactants having polyfluoroalkyl chains. II. Syntheses of anionic surfactants having two polyfluoroalkyl chains including a trifluoromethyl group at each tail and their flocculation-redispersion ability for dispersed magnetite particles in water

Anionic surfactants having two polyfluoroalkyl chains per molecule, i.e. the sodium salt of bis(1H, 1H, 2H,2H-heptadeca-fluorodecyl)-2-sulfosuccinate, CF₃(CF₂)₇(CH₂)₂OCOCH₂CH(SO₃Na)COO(CH₂)₂(CF₂)₇CF₃, the sodium salt of bis(1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-tridecafluoro-octyl)-2-sulfosuccinate, CF₃(CF₂)₅(CH₂)₂OCOCH₂CH(SO₃Na)COO(CH₂)₂(CF₂)₅CF₃, and the sodium salt of bis(1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-nonafluorohexyl)-2-sulfosuccinate, CF₃(CF₂)₃(CH₂)₂OCOCH₂CH(SO₃Na)COO(CH₂)₂(CF₂)₃CF₃, have been prepared from maleic anhydride, the corresponding alcohols possessing a polyfluoroalkyl chain and sodium hydrogen sulfite. The flocculation and redispersion abilities of these surfactants for dispersed magnetic particles in water have been examined to investigate the effect of the chain length. It was found that this ability was enhanced by an increase in the chain length. The contact angles for water for pelleted surface-modified magnetite have been measured. In order to compare this ability and the contact angles, data for other fluorinated surfactant have been obtained. The Kraff point, the surface tension and the pNa of the aqueous surfactant solutions have also been measured.     

Catalytic enantioselective synthesis of atropisomeric 2-aryl-4-quinolinone derivatives with an N–C chiral axis

In the presence of an (R)-MOP-Pd₂(dba)₃ catalyst, the reaction of ortho-tert-butylaniline with 2-bromophenyl arylethynyl ketone proceeded via a tandem amination (1,4-addition of aniline to an ynone and subsequent intramolecular Buchwald–Hartwig amination) to afford axially chiral N-(2-tert-butylphenyl)-2-aryl-4-quinolinone derivatives with moderate enantioselectivity (up to 72% ee).     

Cubic phases of 4′-n-alkoxy-3′-nitrobiphenyl-4-carboxylic acids (ANBC-n)

The structure of the thermotropic cubic phases of 4′- ⁿ -alkoxy-3′-nitrobiphenyl-4-carboxylic acids (ANBC- ⁿ , where ⁿ indicates the number of carbon atoms in the alkoxy group) was studied by X-ray diffraction. For the homologues with ⁿ = 15, 16, 17, and 18, the cubic phase was of an ^Ia 3 ^d type, whereas the homologues with ⁿ = 19, 20, and 21 exhibited an ^Im 3 ^m cubic structure; for these seven homologues the same type of cubic structure was observed both on heating and cooling. Further lengthening of the alkoxy chain to ⁿ = 22 and 26, however, gave two types of cubic structure in the cubic phase region on heating, one with ^Im 3 ^m symmetry in the low temperature region and the other with ^Ia 3 ^d symmetry in the high temperature region. On cooling, the two homologues exhibited the ^Ia 3 ^d cubic structure only. This is the first example in the cubic phase region of a series of homologues containing two types of structure, dependent on temperature and ⁿ . Such a complicated phase diagram in the cubic region is clearly understood qualitatively in terms of Gibbs free energy-temperature diagrams. The dependence of structural parameters such as the cubic lattice constant on the alkoxy chain length ⁿ are also presented and discussed.     

Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Amines on a Mediator‐Modified Electrode by Electrochemical Copolymerization of Nitroxyl Radical Precursor Containing Pyrrole Side Chain and Bithiophene

This paper describes the electrocatalytic oxidation of amines on TEMPO (2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl)‐modified electrodes prepared by electrochemical copolymerization of TEMPO precursor containing pyrrole side chain and 2,2′‐bithiophene. The modified electrode exhibits electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of primary and secondary amines. Cyclic voltammetric studies showed that the peak current of the cyclic voltammogram increased linearly with increasing concentration of amine in the sample solution.     

High Pressure Synthesis of Cycloadduct of Fullerene C60 with 2H-Pyran-2-one∗∗

Under high pressure conditions, fullerene C₆₀ smoothly reacts with 2H-pyran-2-one to give a [4+2] cycloadduct, which can be reduced to an alcohol derivative.

     

Water inclusion as a trigger for modulation of anthracene arrangement and fluorescence emission of organic salt

An organic salt composed 9,10-bis(4-aminophenyl)anthracene and hypophosphorous acid emits yellow-green fluorescence in the crystalline state. The salt also gives water inclusion crystal which provides blue-green fluorescence. Single X-ray crystal studies revealed that water molecules induced the fluorescence change resulting from reaggregation of molecular packing.
