Direct synthesis of fluorescent 1,3a,6a-triazapentalene derivatives via click-cyclization-aromatization cascade reaction

An efficient and versatile method was established for the preparation of 1,3a,6a-triazapentalenes. The 1,3a,6a-triazapentalene skeleton without an additional fused ring system was discovered to be a compact and highly fluorescent chromophore, which exhibited various interesting fluorescent properties such as a noteworthy correlation of luminescent wavelength with the Hammett σ(p) value and a strongly positive solvatofluorochromism.     

Metabolism of gentiopicroside (gentiopicrin) by human intestinal bacteria

As a part of our studies on the metabolism of crude drug components by intestinal bacteria, gentiopicroside (a secoiridoid glucoside isolated from Gentiana lutea), was anaerobically incubated with various defined strains of human intestinal bacteria. Many species had ability to transform it to a series of metabolites. Among them, Veillonella parvula ss parvula produced five metabolites, which were identified as erythrocentaurin, gentiopicral, 5-hydroxymethylisochroman-1-one,5-hydroxymethylisochromen-1- one and trans-5,6-dihydro-5-hydroxymethyl-6-methyl-1H,3H-pyrano[3,4-c]pyra n-1-one.     

Scattering time in GaAs/AlGaAs narrow wires in the presence of magnetic field

Magnetoresistance measurements have been performed in narrow GaAs/AlGaAs wires in order to study the scattering process in mesoscopic wires. Amplitude analysis of the Shubnikov -de Haas oscillations shows that electrons have two scattering times, depending upon the magnetic field range. The critical field which separates these scattering times seems to be determined by the relation between the wire width and the electron cyclotron radius. This effect is discussed in terms of the electron trajectories in a wire under the magnetic field.     

Catalytic Ni/Cr-mediated macrocyclization without use of high-dilution techniques

The feasibility of catalytic Ni/Cr-mediated macrocyclization was demonstrated for the two substrates chosen from the halichondrin area. With 5 mol % of Ni and Cr catalysts, the macrocyclization was realized without use of high-dilution techniques. The reported method has a number of appealing features, including user-friendliness, easy workup, apparent scalability, and cost-effectiveness. In addition, all the required reagents are commercially available or obtainable in one or two steps from commercially available chemicals.     

Synchrotron x-ray-diffraction study of α-cristobalite at high pressure and high temperature

Abstract

Energy-dispersive x-ray diffraction using synchrotron radiation was carried out on α-cristobalite to 3 GPa and 350°C in a cubic anvil press. A cascading structural phase transition occurred beyond 0.61 GPa at room temperature. The transition was accompanied by a splitting of most of the a-cristobalite reflections: the (111) reflection at 0.61 GPa through the (211) reflections at 2.13 GPa, with many other lines between. The pressure of this transition decreased with increasing temperature.
