Possible radiochemical separations of anionic radionuclides by amorphous hydrous titanium dioxide

Ion-exchange selectivities towards oxoanions and halide ions were studied for radio-chemical applications by an amorphous hydrous titanium dioxide (Am-HTDO) as functions of pH and concentration. The selectivity series was found to be Mo(VI)<W(VI)<P(V)<As(V)<Sb(V) for micro-amounts at pH 9 and Br^–Cl^–F^– for macro-amounts. A feasibility was suggested for radiochemical separations of³²P by³⁵Cl(n,)³²P and⁷⁷Br by⁷⁵As(, 2n)⁷⁷Br, and selective removal of anionic radionuclides.Synthetic Inorganic Ion-Exchange Materials. ESR of copper tutton salts around 0.1 K

A remarkable H/T effect in the intensity of ESR absorption is reported for the case of two Cu Tutton salts studied at 9.4 GHz and at temperatures down to 37 mK. Results can be reasonably expressed by the Brillouin function for $\text{S =}\text{1}\text{2}$.     

Time-resolved optical transmission during pulsed-laser annealing of ion-implanted amorphous silicon-on-sapphire

Time-resolved optical transmission of annealing dye laser pulse (wavelength : 590 nm and pulse width : 250 nsec) itself has been measured in thin layers of Si⁺-implanted amorphized silicon-on-sapphire (SOS) with several energy densities in the range of 0.02 to 2.64 J/cm². At the energy densities where the amorphized SOS is recrystallized, the transmission exhibits a sudden drop and subsequently remains at a detectable level. This laser-induced absorption is inconsistent with the presence of ordinary molten silicon but suggests an electronic structural-change from amorphous to crystalline state.     

Studies on the syntheses of heterocyclic compounds. Part DCXLIV . Catalytic reduction of homoproaporphine related compounds

Hydrogenation of the homoproaporphine (IV) over platinum oxide gave a mixture of the cyclohexanols VIIa and VIIb. In contrast, reduction of IV on palladium provided the cyclo-hexanone VI, which was also obtained from VIIb by oxidation. Treatment of the cyclohexanols VIIa and VIIb under hydrogen on platinum oxide afforded the same mixture of VIIa and VIIb.     

Calculation on cosmic-ray muon exposure rate in non-walled concrete buildings

Computer simulations on the exposure indoors from cosmic ray muons were practiced in the framework of non-scattering and non-cascade assumptions. The model buildings were two-dimensional, rectangular, and were made of a normal concrete. A stratified structure was assumed in each building, where no mezzanine was considered. Walls were not taken into account yet. The distributions of the exposure rates in 26-story buildings were illustrated in contour maps for various sets of parameters. All of them gave basically archlike patterns. Analyses of the results showed that the exposure rate is affected most largely by the floor board thickness. The ceiling height would be an insignificant factor for short buildings. The min/max ratio of the muon exposure rate in a moderate size building was estimated to be more than 0.7.
