On the functional properties of the confluent hypergeometric zeta-function

A zeta-function associated with Kummer’s confluent hypergeometric function is introduced as a classical Dirichlet series. An integral representation, a transformation formula, and relation formulas between contiguous functions and one generalization of Ramanujan’s formula are given. The inverse Laplace transform of confluent hypergeometric functions is essentially used to derive the integral representation.     

Determination of chemical form of antimony in contaminated soil around a smelter using X-ray absorption fine structure.

Only limited information is available about the behavior of antimony (Sb) in contaminated soils. However, understanding the behavior of Sb in contaminated soils is important, because the toxicity or solubility of this element depends on its chemical state. In this study, we investigated the levels of Sb and the chemical forms of Sb in the soil around a smelter using X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectra. The highest Sb concentration in the contaminated soil was 2900 mg/kg dry soil. According to Sb-K edge X-ray absorption near edge (XANE) spectra, the Sb in the soil was in the form of Sb(V) compounds. The similarity of extended XAFS (EXAFS) spectra suggests that Sb speciation was independent of the sampling site, which indicates that Sb or Sb2O3 emitted from the smelter was converted into Sb(V) compounds in the soil.     

Chiral lithium binaphtholate aqua complex as a highly effective asymmetric catalyst for cyanohydrin synthesis

A highly enantioselective cyanohydrin synthesis with aromatic aldehydes using chiral lithium binaphtholate aqua or alcohol complexes has been developed and is a simple and inexpensive catalyst suitable for process chemistry to give gram-scale cyanohydrins successfully. Dramatic improvements in enantiomeric excess have been realized along with an interesting changeover in absolute stereochemistry of cyanohydrin product against the thoroughly "dry" catalytic systems.     

Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Study on Aggregation of 1-Alkyl-3-methylimidazolium Based Ionic Liquids in Aqueous Solution

Aggregation structures of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium based ionic liquids (ILs) in aqueous solution were investigated by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) from the viewpoint of alkyl chain length, n, and anions (Cl^?, Br^? and trifluoromethanesulfonate, $ {\text{CF}}_{3} {\text{SO}}_{3}^{ - } $ ). In [C₄mIm⁺]-based IL systems, no noticeable SANS intensity was observed for all of the systems examined here, although aqueous [C₄mIm⁺][ $ {\text{BF}}_{4}^{ - } $ ] solutions show a significant SANS profile originating from concentration fluctuations in the solution (Almasy et al. J Phys Chem B 112:2382–2387, 2008). This suggests that [C₄mIm⁺][Cl^?], [C₄mIm⁺][Br^?] and [C₄mIm⁺][ $ {\text{CF}}_{3} {\text{SO}}_{3}^{ - } $ ] homogeneously mix with water, unlike the [C₄mIm⁺][ $ {\text{BF}}_{4}^{ - } $ ] system, due to preferential hydration of the ions. In the case of the C _n mIm cations with longer alkyl chain lengths (n = 8 and 12), SANS profiles were clearly observed in the aqueous solutions at IL concentrations of C _IL > 230 and 20.0 mmol·dm^?3, respectively. For aqueous [C₈mIm⁺][Br^?] solutions, the asymptotic behavior of the scattering function varied largely from I(q) ~ q ^?2 to ~q ^?4 with increasing C _IL, indicating that the solution changes from an inhomogeneous mixing state to a nano-scale micelle state. Aqueous [C₁₂mIm⁺][Br^?] solutions show a typical SANS profile for micelle formation in solution. It was found from a model-fitting analysis that the structure of the [C₁₂mIm⁺][Br^?] micelle is ellipsoidal, not spherical, in solutions over the C _IL range examined here.     

Practical synthesis of S-alkyl thiocarbamate herbicides by carbonylation of amines with carbon monoxide and sulfur

An industrial and economic carbonylation of amines with carbon monoxide and sulfur has been developed for the synthesis of S-alkyl thiocarbamate herbicides. In the presence of potassium carbonate and solvent DMSO, S-alkyl thiocarbamates, such as thiobencarb and orbencarb (herbicides) are synthesized in excellent yields from amines, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and alkyl halides under mild conditions (1 atm, 20 °C).     

A novel polycondensation method for the synthesis of a two-faced β-1,4-glucan

Abstract  

The stereospecific synthesis of a chitosan derivative repeating 2-azido-3,6-di-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-3,6-di-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-2-phthalimido-d-glucopyranose, which has two distinguishing faces, was achieved by polycondensation of the sole starting disaccharide, trichloroacetimidoyl 2-azido-3,6-di-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-3,6-di-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-2-phthalimido-d-glucopyranoside in a short and efficient way.     

Copper‐Catalyzed Ritter‐Type Reaction of Unactivated Alkenes with Dichloramine‐T

It was shown that dichloramine‐T ( 1 ) reacted with cyclohexene in acetonitrile to give N¹‐(2‐chlorocyclohexyl) amidine 2a and N‐(2‐chlorocyclohexyl)acetamide ( 3 ) via the competitive addition of acetonitrile and N‐chloro‐N‐tosylamino anion to cyclohexenechloronium ion. This reaction can be catalyzed by Cu(OAc)₂, primarily affording 2a . Furthermore, the resulting 2a can be cyclized to benzimidazol 14a in good yield by treating with KOH in dioxane.
