Magnetic properties of La-Co substituted M-type strontium hexaferrites prepared by polymerizable complex method

Magnetic properties of La-Co substituted M-type strontium hexaferrites were studied. The samples were prepared by polymerizable complex method. Crystal structure of samples has been investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Single-phase M-type strontium hexaferrites with chemical composition of Sr_1.05−xLa_xFe_12−xCo_xO₁₉ (x=0-0.4) were formed by heating at 1173 K for 24 h in air. Magnetic properties were discussed by measurements of M-H curves with vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). La-Co substituted M-type strontium hexaferrites prepared by polymerizable complex method showed typical magnetic hysteresis of hard ferrite. The coercive force increased significantly by La-Co substitution with polymerizable complex method. Maximum coercive force achieved in this study is 8.0 kOe (640 kA/m). Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the prepared ferrite particles have plate-like shape of diameter range between 20 and 500 nm.     

Hydrazine (N2H4) adsorption on Ni(1 0 0) – Density functional theory investigation

A theoretical study on the structure and adsorption mechanism of hydrazine (N₂H₄) on Ni(1 0 0) are presented. The hydrazine molecule was found to adsorb on the surface through one of its nitrogen atom in its anti-conformation. The charge transfer from hydrazine lone pair orbitals played a key role in the formation of the bonding. The mechanism involved in the bonding was found to reduce the necessity of hyper-conjugation interaction, that reduces the gauche effect found in hydrazine at the gas-phase. Upon adsorption to the surface, the reduced interaction resulted in the promotion of a more favored conformation through its anti-conformation.     

Collisional granular flow as a micropolar fluid

We show that a micropolar fluid model successfully describes collisional granular flows on a slope. A micropolar fluid is the fluid with internal structures in which coupling between the spin of each particle and the macroscopic velocity field is taken into account. It is a hydrodynamical framework suitable for granular systems which consists of particles with macroscopic size. We demonstrate that the model equations can quantitatively reproduce the velocity and the angular velocity profiles obtained from the numerical simulation of the collisional granular flow on a slope using a simple estimate for the parameters in the theory.     

Solid-phase synthesis of substituted guanidines using a novel acid labile linker

A novel acid labile linker for solid-phase synthesis of substituted guanidines has been developed. Its synthetic utility is exemplified by high-yielding pyrazole displacement with structurally and electronically diverse sets of aliphatic and aromatic amines. The final cleavage is achieved by treatment with 95:5 trifluoroacetic acid/water for 1 h. The corresponding guanidines were obtained in high purity (80-95%) and good isolated yields (50-95%). The scope and limitations of this linker were further demonstrated by the solid-phase synthesis of an 880-member library of individual trisubstituted arylguanidines employing pyrazole displacement with a set of 11 anilines and two subsequent Mitsunobu N-alkylations with sets of 10 and 8 alcohols, respectively.     

Unprecedented direct oxygen atom transfer from hypervalent oxido-lambda(3)-iodanes to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds: synthesis of alpha,beta-epoxy carbonyl compounds

Tetra-n-butylammonium oxido-lambda(3)-iodane, prepared from 1-hydroxy-1,2-benziodoxol-3(1H)-one by reaction with tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride, directly undergoes oxygen atom transfer to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, yielding epoxides.     

Induction in linear logic

Linear logic, introduced by Girardet al., has a great power of expression, but no method for induction. This paper proposes a method of induction using knowledge represented by linear logical formulas. In linear logic, the number of propositions is controlled by logical operators. When a background theory and a hypothesis prove an example, the number of propositions on each side must be equivalent.     

The branching point in the petasaccharides viridopentaoses A,B and C

The branching point in the viridopentaoses has been determined by a three step sequence, permethylation/methanolysis/benzoylation, followed by CD measurements, a method which can be scaled down to microgram quantities.     

Coherent transients observed by Stark switching in ruby having narrow optical hole burning

By using the Stark switching technique we observed new coherent transient signals in ruby at low laser intensities, which are unique in solids where T₁ ? T₂. It was confirmed that the existence of narrow optical hole burning before the switching plays an essential role in giving rise to the signals. The effects of the multiple optical hole burning were also observed in the time domain. Assuming the existence of the holes, the signals can well be interpreted by linear system analysis.
