Facile Synthesis of Oxamides by Efficient Trapping of Carbamoyl Lithiums with Isocyanates

Unsymmetrical oxamides are conveniently synthesized in good yields by a new trapping reaction of unstable carbamoyl lithiums with isocyanates.     

Synthesis of Sulfonylurea Derivatives Used as Oral Antidiabetics by the Selenium-Assisted Carbonylation Using Carbon Monoxide with Sulfur

Sulfonylurea derivatives including useful antidiabetics (Tolbutamide, Chlorpropamide) were synthesized in good yields from benzene-sulfonamides with thiocarbamates in the presence of DBU. Thiocarbamates were prepared by the selenium-assisted carbonylation of primary amines with carbon monoxide, sulfur, and methyl iodide under mild conditions.     

Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Study on Aggregation of 1-Alkyl-3-methylimidazolium Based Ionic Liquids in Aqueous Solution

Aggregation structures of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium based ionic liquids (ILs) in aqueous solution were investigated by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) from the viewpoint of alkyl chain length, n, and anions (Cl^?, Br^? and trifluoromethanesulfonate, $ {\text{CF}}_{3} {\text{SO}}_{3}^{ - } $ ). In [C₄mIm⁺]-based IL systems, no noticeable SANS intensity was observed for all of the systems examined here, although aqueous [C₄mIm⁺][ $ {\text{BF}}_{4}^{ - } $ ] solutions show a significant SANS profile originating from concentration fluctuations in the solution (Almasy et al. J Phys Chem B 112:2382–2387, 2008). This suggests that [C₄mIm⁺][Cl^?], [C₄mIm⁺][Br^?] and [C₄mIm⁺][ $ {\text{CF}}_{3} {\text{SO}}_{3}^{ - } $ ] homogeneously mix with water, unlike the [C₄mIm⁺][ $ {\text{BF}}_{4}^{ - } $ ] system, due to preferential hydration of the ions. In the case of the C _n mIm cations with longer alkyl chain lengths (n = 8 and 12), SANS profiles were clearly observed in the aqueous solutions at IL concentrations of C _IL > 230 and 20.0 mmol·dm^?3, respectively. For aqueous [C₈mIm⁺][Br^?] solutions, the asymptotic behavior of the scattering function varied largely from I(q) ~ q ^?2 to ~q ^?4 with increasing C _IL, indicating that the solution changes from an inhomogeneous mixing state to a nano-scale micelle state. Aqueous [C₁₂mIm⁺][Br^?] solutions show a typical SANS profile for micelle formation in solution. It was found from a model-fitting analysis that the structure of the [C₁₂mIm⁺][Br^?] micelle is ellipsoidal, not spherical, in solutions over the C _IL range examined here.     

7,7,8,8‐Tetraaryl‐o‐quinodimethane Stabilized by Dibenzo Annulation: A Helical π‐Electron System That Exhibits Electrochromic and Unique Chiroptical Properties

When two benzene rings are fused to a tetraaryl‐o‐quinodimethane skeleton, sterically hindered helical molecules 1 acquire a high thermodynamic stability. Because the tetraarylbutadiene subunit contains electron‐donating alkoxy groups, 1 undergo reversible two‐electron oxidation to 2 ²⁺, which can be isolated as deeply colored stable salts. Intramolecular transfer of the point chirality (e.g., sec‐butyl) on the aryl groups to helicity induces a diastereomeric preference in dications 2 b ²⁺ and 2 c ²⁺, which represents an efficient method for enhancing circular‐dichroism signals. Thus, those redox pairs can serve as new electrochiroptical response systems. X‐ray analysis of dication 2 ²⁺ revealed π–π stacking interaction of the diarylmethylium moieties, which is also present in solution. The stacking geometry is the key contributor to the chirosolvatochromic response.     

2-Chloroanthraquinone-catalyzed aerobic photo-oxidative synthesis of diacylamines from benzylamides

In this Letter, we report the aerobic photo-oxidative synthesis of diacylamines from benzylamides in the presence of molecular oxygen and catalytic amounts of 2-chloroanthraquinones under visible light irradiation from a fluorescent lamp.     

One-pot synthesis of tryptanthrin by the Dakin oxidation of indole-3-carbaldehyde

A one-pot approach to indolo[2,1-b]quinazolines from indole-3-carbaldehydes through the Dakin oxidation was developed. It was shown that the reaction proceeded through the condensation of indole-3-carbaldehydes with isatoic anhydrides, derived in situ from indole-3-carbaldehydes by the Dakin oxidation, and further oxidation/cyclization steps.     

Formation,Expansion, and Interconversion of Metallarings in a Sulfur‐Bridged AuICoIII Coordination System

A novel Au^ICo^III coordination system that is derived from the newly prepared [Co(D ‐nmp)₂]⁻ ( 1 ⁻; D ‐nmp=N‐methyl‐D ‐penicillaminate) and a gold(I) precursor Au^I is reported. Complex 1 ⁻ acts as a sulfur‐donating metallaligand and reacts with the gold(I) precursor to give [Au₂Co₂(D ‐nmp)₄] ( 2 ), which has an eight‐membered Au^I₂Co^III₂ metallaring. Treatment of 2 with [Au₂(dppe)₂]²⁺ (dppe=1,2‐bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) leads to the formation of [Au₄Co₂(dppe)₂(D ‐nmp)₄]²⁺ ( 3 ²⁺), which consists of an 18‐membered Au^I₄Co^III₂ metallaring that accommodates a tetrahedral anion (BF₄⁻, ClO₄⁻, ReO₄⁻). In solution, the metallaring structure of 3 ²⁺ is readily interconvertible with the nine‐membered Au^I₂Co^III metallaring structure of [Au₂Co(dppe)(D ‐nmp)₂]⁺ ( 4 ⁺); this process depends on external factors, such as solvent, concentration, and nature of the counteranion. These results reveal the lability of the Au S and Au P bonds, which is essential for metallaring expansion and contraction.
