Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS) is often limited by space-charge effects. Previously, particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations have been used to understand these effects on FTICR-MS signals. However, none have extended fully into the space-charge dominated (plasma) regime. We use a two-dimensional (2-D) electrostatic PIC code, which facilitates work at very high number densities at modest computational cost to study FTICR-MS in the plasma regime. In our simulation, we have observed peak coalescence and the rapid loss of signal coherence, two common experimental problems. This demonstrates that a 2-D model can simulate these effects. The 2-D code can handle a larger numbers of particles and finer spatial resolution than can currently be addressed by 3-D models. The PIC method naturally takes into account image charge and space charge effects in trapped-ion mass spectrometry. We found we can quantify the relative abundances of two closely spaced (such as 7Be+ and 7Li+) species in the plasma regime even when their peaks have coalesced. We find that the frequency of the coalesced peak shifts linearly according to the relative abundances of these species. Space charge also affects more widely spaced lines. Singly-ionized 7BeH and 7Li have two separate peaks in the plasma regime. Both the frequency and peak area vary nonlinearly with their relative abundances. Under some conditions, the signal exhibited a rapid loss of coherence. We found that this is due to a high order diocotron instability growing in the ion cloud.  相似文献

Epitaxial VO2 films were prepared on the TiO2 (001) substrates by the excimer-laser-assisted metal–organic deposition (ELAMOD). The quality of the epitaxial films obtained by irradiation with a KrF laser was found to be affected by the film structure obtained after preheating at 500 or 300°C. When the films containing crystal domains, which were obtained by preheating at 500°C, were irradiated with the laser at room temperature under a base pressure of 250 Pa, epitaxial and polycrystalline VO2 phases were simultaneously formed. In contrast, when the amorphous films containing organic components, which were obtained by preheating at 300°C, were irradiated with the laser at room temperature in air, a single phase of epitaxial VO2 was formed. By using thermal simulations, we determined that the formation of the epitaxial phase was affected both by the temperature distribution within the film during the laser irradiation and by the laser intensity at the interface between the substrate and the film. The latter factor is considered to play a role in the nucleation of crystallization, causing the epitaxial phase to form preferentially compared to the polycrystalline phase in the amorphous matrix of the films. These results indicate that the ELAMOD process is effective for the fabrication of epitaxial VO2 films at low temperature.  相似文献

For a positive integer n, we say that C(X) is n-th root closed if, for each fC(X), there exists gC(X) such that f=gn. It is shown that, for each integer m?2, there exists a compact Hausdorff space Xm such that C(Xm) is m-th root closed, but not n-th root closed for each integer n relatively prime to m. This answers a question posed by Countryman Jr. [R.S. Countryman Jr., On the characterization of compact Hausdorff X for which C(X) is algebraically closed, Pacific J. We study the interrelationship between topological and analytical properties of Sobolev bundles and describe some of their applications to variational problems on principal bundles. We in particular show that the category of Sobolev principal G-bundles of class W 2,m/2 defined over M m is equivalent to the category of smooth principal G-bundles on M and give a characterization of the weak sequential closure of smooth principal G-bundles with prescribed isomorphism class. We also prove a topological compactness result for minimizing sequences of a conformally invariant Yang-Mills functional.   相似文献

It has been reported that the repeated administration of a sub-anesthetic dose of an N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist, ketamine, can produce an animal model of schizophrenia. Since no information is available on the alterations of the amino acid levels in ketamine-treated rats, we investigated the amino acid composition in the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid of rats that were repeatedly administered with ketamine for 5 consecutive days (30 mg/kg/day). The plasma and cerebrospinal fluid amino acid compositions in the fifth week after cessation of repeated ketamine administration were determined by highperformance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection using a pre-column fluorescence reagent, i.e. 4-fluoro-7nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole. Among the amino acids investigated in the present study, the level of plasma glutamic acid increased significantly (p < 0.05), while that of the cerebrospinal fluid glutamic acid decreased significantly in the ketamine-treated rats as compared with these levels in control rats injected with saline (p < 0.05, n = 7). These alterations in the glutamic acid level in the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid resemble those in schizophrenic patients, suggesting that ketamine-treated rats may be a useful model for performing research on the pathophysiology of schizophrenia.  相似文献

The surface-deformation characteristics of uniaxially drawn poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) film were successfully evaluated with multiline scratch tests using scanning probe microscopy (SPM) on a nanometer scale. The PET film was prepared by compression molding from the melt, followed by quenching in ice water. The obtained amorphous film was drawn uniaxially below its glass-transition temperature, and the resultant surface roughness could be reduced to within 5 nm. A multiline scratch with the Si(3)N(4) tip of an SPM on the oriented PET surface was made parallel and perpendicular to the drawing axis under applied loads of 5-30 nN. The perpendicular scratching generated a characteristic periodic pattern on the film surface, but the parallel scratching induced a tearing of the surface. These results suggest that surface-deformation mechanisms were dominated by molecular anisotropy. The surface-deformation properties, as evaluated from scratch-angle dependences on morphological changes on a nanometer scale, were similar to the mechanical properties of the bulk.  相似文献

Flexible honeycomb gold films supported by polymer sheets are fabricated by using polystyrene particle monolayers. The surfaces of the flexible gold films are covered with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of hydrophobic or hydrophilic thiol compounds, and the wettability of the modified surface is evaluated by measurements of the contact angles of water droplets. The contact angle of the film covered with hydrophobic SAM is ca. 150 degrees, which is greater than the value of 112 degrees for a flat gold surface, while the values for hydrophilic SAM are below 10 degrees.  相似文献
