We experimentally demonstrated remote sensing of the constituents of microparticles in air by combining laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and lidar, using femtosecond terawatt laser pulses. Laser pulses of 70 fs duration and 130 mJ energy generated filaments when focused at a focal length of 20 m and the pulses irradiated artificial saltwater aerosols in air at a 10 Hz pulse repetition rate. Na fluorescence was observed remotely at a distance of 16 m using a 318 mm diameter Newtonian telescope, a spectrometer, and an intensified CCD camera. These results show the possibility of remote measurement of the constituents of atmospheric particles, such as aerosols, clouds, and toxic materials, by LIBS-lidar using femtosecond terawatt laser pulses. 相似文献

In this paper, a silicon-based integrated optic pressure sensor using an intermodal interference between the fundamental TM-like and TE-like modes is described. The sensor consists of a micromachined rectangular diaphragm and a straight polystyrene optical waveguide passing over the diaphragm. Its sensitivity is theoretically known to be strongly dependent on the position of the waveguide over the diaphragm. To experimentally investigate such dependence, we fabricated a sensor with a 1.2 mm ×10 mm ×20 μm diaphragm, over which waveguides were placed at 50 μm intervals. The measured phase sensitivity was 98 mrad/kPa for the waveguide nearest to the diaphragm edge. The measurement was also carried out for the other waveguides. As theoretically expected, the largest sensitivity was obtained for the waveguide nearest to the edge. 相似文献

Although recent advances in fabrication technologies have allowed the realization of highly accurate nanometric devices and systems, most approaches still lack uniformity and mass-production capability sufficient for practical use. We have previously demonstrated a novel technique for autonomously coupling heterogeneous quantum dots to induce particular optical responses based on a simple phonon-assisted photocuring method in which a mixture of quantum dots and photocurable polymer is irradiated with light. The cured polymer sequentially encapsulates coupled quantum dots, forming what we call a nanophotonic droplet. Recently, we found that each quantum dot in the mixture is preferably coupled with other quantum dots of similar size due to a size resonance effect of the optical near-field interactions between them. Moreover, every nanophotonic droplet is likely to contain the same number of coupled quantum dots. In this paper, we describe the basic mechanisms of autonomously fabricating nanophotonic droplets, and we examine the size- and number-selectivity of the quantum dots during their coupling process. The results from experiments show the uniformity of the optical properties of mass-produced nanophotonic droplets, revealed by emission from the contained coupled quantum dots, due to the fundamental characteristics of our method. 相似文献

The output energy of photovoltaic (PV) modules is influenced by the spectral irradiance distribution of the solar spectrum under outdoor conditions. To rate the precise output energy of PV modules, the correction of short circuit current (ISC) based on actual environmental conditions is needed, because ISC significantly depends on the shape of the spectral irradiance distribution. The average photon energy (APE) is a zero-dimensional index for spectral irradiance distribution, and APE value uniquely describes the shape of a solar spectrum. Thus, APE has an impact on ISC of PV modules. In this contribution, the relationship between APE coefficient and ISC of the multi-crystalline silicon, single-crystalline silicon, heterojunction intrinsic thin-layer, back contact, copper indium selenide and cadmium telluride PV modules has explored. It is revealed that APE value changes the ISC of PV modules which appeared to have immense possibilities of ISC correction using APE coefficient. Turbulent flow in the axial direction along a cylinder representing a monofilament yarn was reproduced for a relatively wide range of radius Reynolds numbers using direct numerical simulations. In the simulation of the thinnest cylinder, the friction coefficient agreed with a previously published formula. A pair of high- and low-speed streaks was detected around even the thinnest cylinder, whereby it was confirmed that turbulence was sustained according to the analysed turbulence statistics. Even when only a single pair of streaks around the cylinder was detected, the characteristics of the turbulence structures, such as the mean streak spacing based on the viscous length scale, were the same as those in flows over a flat plate. It was found that the friction coefficient changes in a way that maintains the structural characteristics of the flow, consistent with the view that universal characteristics of turbulence structures exist. 相似文献

A class of affine nested fractals is introduced which have different scale factors for different similitudes but still have the symmetry assumptions of nested fractals. For these fractals estimates on the transition density for the Brownian motion are obtained using the associated Dirichlet form. An upper bound for the diagonal can be found using a Nash-type inequality, then probabilistic techniques are used to obtain the off-diagonal bound. The approach differs from previous treatments as it uses only the Dirichlet form and no estimates on the resolvent. Transitions related to the spin-glass phase in Mn1−xTixSb
are revisited from the nonlinear ac susceptibility. Near the tricritical point (x≈0.8), the transition between ferromagnetic and reentrant spin-glass states is sharp. At x0.8, an anomally is found slightly above the temperature of usual spin-glass freezing. 相似文献
