Sequential collection of selenium(IV) and selenium(VI) by the use of an anion-exchange resin loaded with bismuthiol-II sulphonic acid

A new ligand-loaded anion-exchange resin has been developed which allows determination of Se(VI) and Se(IV) in mixtures of the two. The ligand is a sulphonic acid derivative of bismuthiol-II.     

Enhanced collectivity in Ni

The neutron-rich nucleus ⁷⁴Ni was studied with inverse-kinematics inelastic proton scattering using a ⁷⁴Ni radioactive beam incident on a liquid hydrogen target at a center-of-mass energy of 80 MeV. From the measured de-excitation γ rays, the population of the first 2⁺ state was quantified. The angle-integrated excitation cross section was determined to be 14(4) mb. A deformation length of δ=1.04(16) fm$\delta =1.04(16)\text{fm}$ was extracted in comparison with distorted wave theory, which suggests that the enhancement of collectivity established for ⁷⁰Ni continues up to ⁷⁴Ni. A comparison with results of shell model and quasi-particle random phase approximation calculations indicates that the magic character of Z=28$Z=28$ or N=50$N=50$ is weakened in ⁷⁴Ni.     

Polyspiro disilacyclohexadienes a novel series of compounds showing spiroconjugation

Three novel unsaturated spirocompounds with silicon as spiro atom(s) have been prepared. These constitute the first series of “polyspirene” and show interesting spectral properties.     

Chemistry of organosilicon compounds : CX. An electron spin resonance study on the silyl- and germyl- substituted methyl radicals. Hyperfine coupling constants of β-MH [M = Si,Ge) protons

ESR spectra of five metal-substituted methyl radicals of the type HR¹R²M-CR³R⁴ are recorded and analyzed. The magnitudes of a(β-SiH) were in a range of 14-15G, while a(β-GeH) of ·CH₂GeMe₂H was 10.20G. These coupling constants were markedly temperature dependent, suggesting that the most stable conformation of these radicals at low temperature is one in which the β-MH bond eclipses the $\text{p}$ orbital on the metal radical site.
