Rapid Determination of Phenolic Compounds in Water Samples: Development of a Paper‐based Nanobiosensor Modified with Functionalized Silica Nanoparticles and Potato Tissue

In this study, we present a fast, simple, low‐cost and disposable method for determination of phenolic content in water samples, using a paper based polyphenol oxidase biosensor. The propylamine functionalized silica nanoparticles was dropped onto a paper sheet. After drying at room temperature, the potato tissue extract including polyphenol oxidase was immobilized on the paper via physical and chemical adsorption. The modified paper was placed on the top of the graphite screen printed electrode. To construct of an electrochemical nanobiosensor, the electrochemical behavior of the modified electrode in different steps was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods. After being optimized the effective parameters, the changes in the biosensor electrochemical response vs. to the different concentrations of the substrate (phenol solution) were monitored by differential pulse voltammetry and amperometry methods. The linear relationships for phenol detection were obtained in the concentration ranges of 0.01–160 μM and 0.1–300 μM with a detection limit of 0.007 μM and 0.042 μM with DPV and amperometry methods, respectively. This method was successfully used in the voltammetric determination of the phenol content in the real samples, like the river water and the wastewater of wood factory.

Macrocyclic host cyclophosphazenes from aminolysis of N3P3CI6 by bis-(2-ortho-aminophenoxyethyl)ether

Aminolysis of N₃P₃CI₆ by an oxodiamine, bis-(2-ortho-aminophenoxyethyl) ether, has been carried out under various experimental conditions and new products with different architectures have been obtained. The reaction in diethyl ether when using a Na₂CO₃-water interface process gives the mono-BINO as major product. Reaction on Al₂O₃/KOH leads to the spirocyclic compound, while, when the reaction is carried out in toluene in the presence of NEt₃, a mixture of mono- and di-BINO products are obtained. These new products have been characterized by IR, ¹H and ³¹P NMR spectroscopy.      

Synthesis and structure–behavior relationships of tetra-substituted imidazole derivatives of 1,3-diazabicyclo[3,1,0]hex-3-ene

A versatile strategy for tuning the color of electrochemiluminescence using silica nanoparticles

Colour emission of core-shell silica-PEG nanoparticles in water is tuned with an electrochemically induced energy transfer approach. The lack of solubility problems, side electrochemical reactions involving donors and acceptors within the nanoparticle, and the possibility of using many classes of dyes in ECL applications confirm the validity of this strategy.     

Highly selective thiocyanate poly(vinyl chloride) membrane electrode based on a cadmium–Schiff’s base complex

A PVC membrane electrode based on a cadmium–salen (N,N′-bis-salicylidene-1,2ethylenediamine) complex as an anion carrier is described. The electrode has an anti-Hofmeister selectivity sequence with a preference for thiocyanate at pH 1.5–11.0. It has a linear response to thiocyanate from 1.0 × 10^–6 to 1.0 × 10^–1 mol L^–1 with a slope of 59.1 ± 0.2 mV per decade, and a detection limit of 7 × 10^–7 mol L^–1. This electrode has high selectivity for thiocyanate relative to many common organic and inorganic anions. The proposed sensor has a fast response time of approximately 15 s. 1H NMR Metabolomics of Chinese Human Milk at Different Stages of Lactation among Secretors and Non-Secretors

Human milk is an intricate, bioactive food promoting infant health. We studied the composition of human milk samples collected over an 8-month lactation using ¹H NMR metabolomics. A total of 72 human breast milk samples were collected from ten Chinese mothers at eight different time points. The concentrations of ten human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), fucose and lactose were quantified. Six of the mothers were classified as Lewis-positive secretors (Se⁺Le⁺) and four as Lewis-positive non-secretors (Se⁻Le⁺) based on the levels of 2′-fucosyllactose (2′-FL), lacto-N-fucopentaose (LNFP) II, lactodifucotetraose (LDFT) and lacto-N-neotetraose (LNnT). Acetate, citrate, short/medium-chain fatty acids, glutamine and urea showed a time-dependent trend in relation to the stage of lactation. The concentrations of 2′-FL, 3-FL (3-fucosyllactose), 3′-SL (3′-sialyllactose), LDFT, LNFP I, LNFP II, LNFP III, LNnT, LNT (lacto-N-tetraose), and fucose were statistically different between secretors and non-secretors. A temporal difference of approximately 1–2 months between the development of non-secretor and secretor HMO profiles was shown. The results highlighted the importance of long-term breastfeeding, especially among non-secretors.     

Gravitational induced uncertainty and dynamics of harmonic oscillator

As a consequence of gravitational induced uncertainty, equation of motion for harmonic oscillator differs considerably from usual quantum mechanical situation. This paper considers the dynamics of a simple harmonic oscillator in the context of Generalized (Gravitational) Uncertainty Principle (GUP). Using Heisenberg Picture of quantum mechanics, we find time evolution of position and momentum operators and we will show that expectation values have an unusual complicated mass dependence. Also we will show that since the notion of locality breaks down, Ehrenfest theorem is not satisfied for harmonic oscillator in GUP.     

Towards click chemistry: Multicomponent reactions via combinations of name reactions

In this report, we try to show the importance of incorporation of name reactions in the sequential cascade reaction in which significantly decreasing the number of steps towards an ideal and practical multi-step synthesis of natural products as well showing virtually all the advantages already mentioned for “Click Chemistry”. In addition, since the chiral inductions are desired for most of these sequential name reactions, their asymmetric catalyzed reactions were also described.     

Novel sulfate ion-selective polymeric membrane electrode based on a derivative of pyrilium perchlorate

A sulfate ion-selective PVC membrane sensor based on 4-(4-bromophenyl)-2,6-diphenylpyrilium perchlorate (BDPP) as a novel sensing material is successfully developed. The electrode shows a good selectivity for sulfate ion with respect to common organic and inorganic anions. The sensor exhibits a good linear response with slope of -28.9+/-0.5 mV per decade over the concentration range of 1.0x10(-6)-1.0x10(-2) M, and a detection limit of 8.0x10(-7) M of SO(4)(2-) ions. The electrode response is independent of pH in the range of 4.0-9.0. The proposed sensor was applied as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of sulfate and barium ions, and to the determination of zinc in zinc sulfate tablets.
