With technological advancements in the medicinal and pharmaceutical industries, numerous research studies have focused on the propolis produced by stingless bees (Meliponini tribe) and Apis mellifera honeybees as alternative complementary medicines for the potential treatment of various acute and chronic diseases. Propolis can be found in tropical and subtropical forests throughout the world. The composition of phytochemical constituents in propolis varies depending on the bee species, geographical location, botanical source, and environmental conditions. Typically, propolis contains lipid, beeswax, essential oils, pollen, and organic components. The latter include flavonoids, phenolic compounds, polyphenols, terpenes, terpenoids, coumarins, steroids, amino acids, and aromatic acids. The biologically active constituents of propolis, which include countless organic compounds such as artepillin C, caffeic acid, caffeic acid phenethyl ester, apigenin, chrysin, galangin, kaempferol, luteolin, genistein, naringin, pinocembrin, coumaric acid, and quercetin, have a broad spectrum of biological and therapeutic properties such as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstruct pulmonary disorders, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory tract-related diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, as well as neuroprotective, immunomodulatory, and immuno-inflammatory agents. Therefore, this review aims to provide a summary of recent studies on the role of propolis, its constituents, its biologically active compounds, and their efficacy in the medicinal and pharmaceutical treatment of chronic diseases.  相似文献

The strong affinity of natural ionic polysaccharides for certain metal ions is exploited in the design of a new class of voltammetric sensing devices. In particular, carbon-paste electrodes containing pectic and alginic acids are used for the nonelectrolytic collection and subsequent voltammetric determination of copper and lead, respectively. Cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry are used to quantify the accumulated ions. The response is characterized with respect to modifier loading, preconcentration period, metal concentration, reproducibility, possible interferences and other variables. Titrimetric experiments illustrate the potential of polysaccharide electrodes for speciation work. Preliminary data are also given for analogous measurements of copper at heparin-modified electrodes. Detection limits are 1 mug/ml and the relative standard deviation is 4.8%.  相似文献

Phytochemical investigation of the stem bark of Calophyllum inophyllum resulted in the isolation of a new dipyrenoxanthone, calophinone ( 1 ), together with four related xanthones ( 2–5 ). Summary. The formation equilibria for the binary complexes of CoII, NiII, CuII, ZnII, CdII, MnII, PbII, ThIV, UO2II, and CeIII with tricine and for the ternary complexes involving some -amino acids (glycine, -alanine, proline, serine, asparagine, and aspartic acid) were investigated using pH-metric technique. The formation of binary and ternary complexes was inferred from the pH-metric titration curves. It was deduced that tricine acts as a primary ligand in the ternary complexes involving the monocarboxylic amino acids (glycine, -alanine, proline, serine, and asparagine), whereas it behaves as a secondary ligand in the ternary systems containing the dicarboxylic aspartic acid. The ternary complex formation was found to take place in a stepwise manner. The stability constants of the complexes formed in aqueous solutions were determined potentiometrically under the experimental conditions (t=25°C, I=0.1moldm–3 NaNO3). The order of stability of the ternary complexes in terms of the nature of the amino acids is investigated and discussed. The values of log K for the ternary complexes have been evaluated and discussed. Evaluation of the effects of ionic strength and temperature of the medium on the stability of the ternary system MII-tricine--alanine (MII=CoII, NiII, and CuII) has been studied. The overall stability constants of the 1:1 and 2:1 2-Carboxyphenylhydrazoacetoacetanilide (2-CPHAAA) and 2-Carboxyphenylhydrazobenzoylacetone (2-CPHBA) rare-earth chelates, were determined by a potentiometric method. The variation of the overall stability constants, “log β” with atomic number, of the lanthanide was ascribed to different degrees of dehydration of the cations. The 2-CPHBA ligand exhibited less affinity for rare earth cations than 2-CPHAAA. The correlation of “log β” versus the basicity of the ligands showed that 2-CPHAAA and 2-CPHBA form the same type of chelate in polar solvents but differ in non polar solvents.  相似文献

Theoretical calculations have been performed in the framework of density functional theory to characterize the effect of axial deformation on hydrogen storage of Ti decorated armchair (5,5) SWCNT. The theoretical characterization has been carried out in terms of H2 adsorption energies that are lying in the desirable energy window (?0.2 to ?0.6?eV) recommended by DOE, as well as a variety of physicochemical properties. A remarkable and significant change in H2 adsorption energy is observed under the effect of only (1%) axial strain. Axial relaxation leads to H2 adsorption energies within the recommended energy range for hydrogen storage, in contrast to axial compression. Simultaneous weakening of π and σ interactions, due to the effect of axial relaxation and loss of spatial orbital overlap, is in favor of hydrogen adsorption in the recommended energy range, and dominates the effect of charge transfer from Ti 3d to C 2p of the SWCNT. The calculated pairwise and non pairwise additive components confirm that the role of the SWCNT is not restricted to supporting the metal. Polarizability and hperpolarizabilty calculations as well as spectral analysis characterize the relaxed structure (Z?=?1.02), for which H2 adsorption energy (?0.34?eV) is in the recommended energy range for hydrogen storage, to be energetically more preferable than the compressed structure (Z?=?0.99). The results offer a way to control and characterize the hydrogenation process of metal functionalized SWCNTs by strain loading.  相似文献

The reaction of benzoylacetone with ortho-substituted aniline derivatives gives the unsymmetrical β-iminoamine ligands (58) with high yields. A convenient synthesis is described. These compounds have been characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopies. The structure of the β-iminoamine 5, 3-N-(2,6-diisopropylphenylamino)-1-phenyl-1N-(2,6-diisopropylphenylimino)but-2-ene, was solved by X-ray diffraction methods.  相似文献

Unlike the common high temperature pyrolysis of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) targeting activated carbon, this study investigates the pyrolytic behaviour of plain CMC at low temperatures ranging between 260 and 300 °C. Preliminary experiments were conducted using differential scanning calorimetry to define the temperature range necessary for the process. Low-temperature pyrolysis was then simulated using thermogravimetric analysis under inert atmosphere. Investigations reveal that a minimum holding temperature of 260 °C is required for an isothermal process, at which pyrolysis is terminated after around 26 min. Increasing exposure temperature reduces pyrolysis time. Within the range of the investigated sample and CMC particle size, no significant effects could be measured regarding the decomposition behaviour. The resulting char was further analysed using X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Visual inspection was conducted using scanning electron microscopy. Upon pyrolysis, originally longitudinally shaped CMC was found to be converted into spherical particles of functionalised amorphous carbon with an average particle size of 41 µm.  相似文献

Three reliable, rapid and selective methods have been developed and validated for the determination of lamotrigine in the presence of its impurity, 2,3-dichlorobenzoic acid. The first method is spectrophotometric method using p-chloranilic acid forming a colored product with lambda(max) 519+/-2 nm. All variables affecting the reaction have been investigated and the conditions were optimized. Beer's law was obeyed over a concentration range of 10-200 microg ml(-1) with mean accuracy 100.13+/-0.44%. The molar ratio of the formed ion-association complex is found to be 1 : 1 as deduced by Job's method. The conditional stability constant (K(f)), standard free energy (DeltaG), molar absorptivity(epsilon), and sensitivity index were evaluated. The second method is based on TLC separation of the cited drug (Rf=0.75+/-0.01) from its impurity (Rf=0.23+/-0.01) followed by densitometric measurement of the intact drug spots at 275 nm. The separation was carried on silica gel plates using ethyl acetate : methanol : ammonia 35% (17 : 2 : 1 v/v/v) as a mobile phase. The linearity range was 0.5-10 microg/spot with mean accuracy 99.99+/-1.33%. The third method is accurate and sensitive stability-indicating HPLC method based on separation of lamotrigine from its impurity on a reversed phase C(18) column, using a mobile phase of acetonitrile : methanol : 0.01 M potassium orthophosphate (pH 6.7+/-0.1) (30 : 20 : 50 v/v/v) at ambient temperature 25+/-5 degrees C and UV detection at 275 nm in an overall analysis time of about 6 min., based on peak area. The injection repeatability, intraday and interday repeatability were calculated. The procedure provided a linear response over the concentration range 1-12 microg ml(-1) with mean accuracy of 99.50+/-1.30%. The proposed methods were successfully applied for the determination of lamotrigine in bulk powder, in dosage form and in presence of its impurity. The results obtained were analyzed by ANOVA to assess that no significant difference between each of the three methods and the reported one. The validation was performed according to USP guidelines.  相似文献
