Spectrophotometric determination of some drugs for osteoporosis

Three simple, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric methods are developed for the determination of some new drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis: risedronate sodium (I), alendronate sodium (II) and etidronate disodium (III). The first method is based on the measurement of difference in absorbance (Delta A) of risedronate sodium in 0.01 mol l(-1) hydrochloric and 0.1 mol l(-1) sodium hydroxide at 262 nm. Beer's law is obeyed over a concentration range of 15-150 microg ml(-1) with mean recovery 99.75+/-1.22 and molar absorptivity (epsilon) 1.891 x 10(3). The second method is based on the reaction of the primary amino group of (II) with ninhydrin reagent in methanolic medium in the presence of 0.05 mol l(-1) sodium bicarbonate. The colored product is measured at 568 nm, and the linearity range is found to be 3.75-45 microg ml(-1) with mean recovery 99.77+/-0.73 and epsilon 9.425 x 10(3). The third method is based on oxidation of the three mentioned drugs with ceric (IV) sulphate in 0.5 mol l(-1) sulphuric acid at room temperature and subsequent measurement of the excess unreacted cerium (IV) sulphate at 320 nm. The method obeyed Beer's law over a concentration range of 2-24 microg ml(-1) for the three drugs with mean recovery 99.79+/-1.16, 99.73+/-1.38 and 99.86+/-1.13 and epsilon 14.427 x 10(3), 13.813 x 10(3) and 14.000 x 10(3) for drugs I, II, III respectively. The proposed methods were successfully applied for the determination of the studied drugs in bulk powder and in pharmaceutical formulations. The results were found to agree statistically with those obtained the reported methods. Furthermore, the methods were validated according to USP regulations and also assessed by applying the standard addition technique.     

Nonexistence of nontrivial global solutions for nonlocal in time differential inequalities

In this paper, some nonlocal in time differential inequalities of Sobolev type are considered. Using the nonlinear capacity method, sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of nontrivial global classical solutions are provided.     

Multiple orthogonal polynomials applied to matrix function evaluation

Multiple orthogonal polynomials generalize standard orthogonal polynomials by requiring orthogonality with respect to several inner products. This paper discusses an application to the approximation of matrix functions and presents quadrature rules that generalize the anti-Gauss rules proposed by Laurie.     

Epoxy-amine multimethacrylic prepolymers,kinetic and structural studies

Epoxy-amine methacrylated prepolymers are prepared in a 1-step synthesis by the reaction of Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether, glycidyl methacrylate, and different diamines. The adaptation of these reactions to production processes with a reduced reaction time requires a kinetic control and the use of efficient catalysts. The comparative kinetic treatment of the epoxy-amine reaction in the frame of Horie's and Rozenberg's kinetic schemes have been made. Cases where an efficient acid catalyst is used are also examined. Structural studies of these reactions established the occurrence of a Michael amine/double bond addition, when some amines are used. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Synthesis,spectral, DFT calculations and biological studies of solvatochromic copper(II)-ONS hydrazone derived from 2-aminochromone-3-carboxaldehyde

New ONS hydrazone ligand, 2-[(2-aminochromon-3-yl)methylidene]-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide, HL , was synthesized and reacted with different salts of Cu (II) ion (OAc⁻, NO₃⁻, SO₄²⁻ and Cl⁻) in absence and presence of secondary ligands (L′); 8-hydroxyquinoline, 1,10-phenanthroline or SCN⁻; to form binary and ternary Cu(II)-chelates. The ligand and its Cu(II)-complexes were fully characterized by analytical, spectral, thermal, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The metal chelates showed octahedral, square planar and /or distorted tetraherdal arrangements. Coats–Redfern equations used to calculate the kinetic parameters of the thermal decomposition stages (E_a, A, ΔH, ΔS and ΔG). The compounds exhibit luminescence property; promising interesting potential applications as photoactive materials. Lippert–Mataga, Bakhshiev, Kawski–Chamma–Viallet and microscopic solvent polarity parameter and E_T^N correlation methods were applied on the solvatochromic shifts of emission spectra to evaluate the ground (μ_g) and excited (μ_e) states dipole moments. Excited state dipole moment is larger than the ground state which may be attributed to π-π* transition. The coordinating anions play an important role on the position and intensity of emission band. The ligand and its metal complexes showed antimicrobial activity towards Gram–positive bacteria, Gram–negative bacteria, yeast and fungus. The molecular structural parameters of HL and its Cu(II)- complexes have been calculated on the basis of DFT engaged in the Gaussian 09 program at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level; the theoretical data are correlated with the experimental data.     

Synthesis of Some Benzimidazole‐based Heterocycles and their Application as Copper Corrosion Inhibitors

A series of new substituted benzimidazoles embedded with a variety of function groups has been synthesized from N‐methyl‐2‐bromoacetylbenzimidazole. The synthesized compounds were fully characterized, and their structures were elucidated based on elemental analysis, spectral data, and alternative synthetic pathways, whenever possible. Some of benzimidazole derivatives were tested as corrosion inhibitors.

An isolate of $\text{Myrothecium roridum}$ which is a pathogen on tomatoes in Texas produces a new class of C27 macrocyclic trichothecenes which contains a nonconjugated diene system that includes a vinyl ether group.     

Parallel Split-Step Fourier Methods for Nonlinear Schrödinger-Type Equations

The nonlinear Schrödinger equation is of tremendous interest in both theory and applications. Various regimes of pulse propagation in optical fibers are modeled by some form of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. In this paper we introduce sequential and parallel split-step Fourier methods for numerical simulations of the nonlinear Schrödinger-type equations. The parallel methods are implemented on the Origin 2000 multiprocessor computer. Our numerical experiments have shown that these methods give accurate results and considerable speedup.     

Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves in Non-Homogeneous Media

We consider electromagnetic waves propagating in a periodic medium characterized by two small scales. We perform the corresponding homogenization process, relying on the modelling by Maxwell partial differential equations.
