We present the magnetic, optical and relaxometric properties of multifunctional Au–Fe3O4 hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs), as possible novel contrast agents (CAs) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The HNPs have been synthesized by wet chemical methods in heterodimer and core–shell geometries and capped with oleylamine. Structural characterization of the samples have been made by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, while magnetic properties have been investigated by means of Superconducting Quantum Interference Device-SQUID magnetometry experiments. As required for MRI applications using negative CAs, the samples resulted superparamagnetic at room temperature and well above their blocking temperatures. Optical properties have been investigated by analyzing the optical absorbtion spectra collected in UV–visible region. Relaxometric measurements have been performed on organic suspensions of HNPs and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) dispersion curves have been obtained by measuring the longitudinal 1/T1 and transverse 1/T2 relaxation rates of solvent protons in the range 10 kHz/300 MHz at room temperature. NMR relaxivities r1 and r2 have been compared with ENDOREM®, one of the commercial superparamagnetic iron oxide based MRI contrast agents. MRI contrast enhancement efficiencies have been investigated also by examining T2-weighted MR images of suspensions. The experimental results suggest that the nanoparticles' suspensions are good candidates as negative CAs.  相似文献

Recently there has been growing interest in sensing by means of optical microring resonators in photonic integrated circuits that are fabricated in silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. Taillaert et al. [Proc. SPIE 6619, 661914 (2007)] proposed the use of a silicon-waveguide-based ring resonator as a strain gauge. However, the strong lateral confinement of the light in SOI waveguides and its corresponding modal dispersion where not taken into account. We present a theoretical understanding, as well as experimental results, of strain applied on waveguide-based microresonators, and find that the following effects play important roles: elongation of the racetrack length, modal dispersion of the waveguide, and the strain-induced change in effective refractive index.  相似文献

A novel method based on light-induced fabrication of a poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-polycaprolactone (PEDOT-PCL) scaffold using phenacyl bromide (PAB) as a single-component photoinitiator is presented. HBr released from the step-growth polymerization of EDOT is utilized as an in situ catalyst for the chain-growth polymerization of ε-caprolactone. Detailed investigations disclose the formation of a self-assembled nanoporous electroconductive scaffold (1.2 mS cm−1). Fluorescence emission spectra of the fabricated scaffold exhibit a mixed solvatochromic behavior, indicating specific interactions between the self-assembled scaffold and solvents with varying polarities, as evidenced by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Moreover, the same light-induced technique can also be applied for bulk photopolymerization showcasing the versatility and wide-ranging scope of the originated method. In brief, this study introduces a novel approach for light-induced polymerization reactions that is merging step-growth and chain-growth mechanisms. This innovative approach is promising to facilitate in situ polymerization of monomers possessing diverse functionalities.  相似文献
