A model is presented which determines the output from a semiconductor laser as a function of the direct current (d.c.) and radio frequency (r.f.) current applied to the laser. It is shown that by adjusting these two components the output optical pulse from a laser can be shifted in time without change to the pulse shape or height. Experimental results are presented which support the model. It is suggested how these results can be used to produce a semiconductor pump-probe source, which is essential for the development of optical probing.  相似文献

The anharmonic potential felt by a single-species ions confined in a rf quadrupole trap which results from a non-ideal trap configuration and the charge distribution of the ion cloud is studied. The rf resonance-absorption spectra are explained by a Duffing oscillator and a representation of the line-shape parameter is derived. For > 0.77, the electric signals will exhibit hysteresis. The relation with the anharmonic potential is discussed.  相似文献

The crystalline-amorphous transition in GaAs induced by Ar ions (energy 1–3 keV) has been investigated using single-wavelength ellipsometry. The experiments have been performed in-situ at room temperature. Ion damage straggling, amorphization threshold and critical energy density have been derived by means of a simple analytical model for the growth of the amorphous layer. This model is discussed and the corresponding calculations are found to be in satisfactory agreement with experimental data.  相似文献

The structure of the constraint set in the Yang-Mills-Dirac theory in a contractible bounded domain is analysed under the bag boundary conditions. The gauge symmetry group is identified, and it is proved that its action on the phase space is proper and admits slices. Pumping requirements of pulsed and continuous wave (CW) 2 m Tm : Ho lasers are investigated experimentally and theoretically for excitation at 800 nm. The influence of the pulse duration on threshold is measured using a chopped Ti : Al2O3 laser. Based on the experimental and simulated results the spatial and temporal pump requirements in future quasi-CW high-power diode-pumped 2 m Tm : Ho lasers are determined. The experiments and the model allow the evaluation of different loss mechanisms and indicate significant 540 nm emitting loss mechanisms.  相似文献

This paper outlines the process of modelling external electrooptic probes mounted on coplanar waveguides (CPW). The techniques used to describe the electromagnetic properties of the external probes are the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and the finite difference transmission line method (FDTLM). These full wave techniques are time domain in nature that must be Fourier transformed to describe important frequency domain characteristics such as scattering parameters. The optical retardation of the probe is related to the full wave analysis through a commonly used grid size that results in a generalized basis for a complete electrooptic system analysis including a unique definition of an electrooptic transfer function,H(). Following the field simulation, the properties of the probe (invasiveness, retardation, signal distortion and group delay) are presented. Procedures for optimizing models for probe tips are discussed and related to a first-order model that has been developed. The results indicate that these probes can be simulated successfully on moderately sized Unix work stations and that the optimization of probe models must include the full wave simulation in the definition of the necessary gradients for the optimization process.  相似文献

A commercial tunable excimer laser consists of an oscillator-amplifier combination. The oscillator produces high-quality light that is sent to the amplifier and is distributed throughout the amplifier cavity via Cassegrain optics. We describe here two alternative approaches, a single-pass configuration for use with KrF and a triple-pass configuration with ArF, both of which do away with the Cassegrain optics. In each approach, the beam energy is the same as with Cassegrain optics. For KrF, the changes provide better locking, a higher degree of linear polarization, and a better spatial beam homogeneity, but a poorer beam divergence. For ArF, there is also better beam homogeneity, but the locking efficiency and divergence are not as good as with Cassegrain optics.  相似文献
