This paper reviews experimental results concerning magnetic anisotropy in geometrically frustrated kagome staircase lattices. Following problems are discussed: high-temperature susceptibility measurements of kagome single crystals; inelastic neutron scattering measurements on Co3V2O8 single crystals; EPR of Co2+ ions in kagome staircase Mg3V2O8 single crystals. The single-ion anisotropy Hamiltonian is used to analyze experimental results. It is suggested that the magnetic anisotropy in kagome staircase M3V2O8 (M=Co, Ni, Mn) oxides has mainly single-ion origin.  相似文献

The appearance of superconductivity and relaxation of the transition temperature to its equilibrium value T c≈30 K over the course of five days have been observed in a tetragonal sample of NdBa2Cu3O6.67 under 1 GPa pressure. The time dependence T c(t) correlates with a decrease of the room-temperature electrical resistance R(t). The superconducting phase disappears 1.3 h after the pressure is removed. This behavior is explained by a redistribution of charge as a result of pressure-induced oxygen reordering in the CuOx planes. A large effect of oxygen ordering on the transition temperature under pressure has been observed near the metal-insulator transition (the largest of all those measured in the 1-2-3 system), along with a nonlinear temperature dependence of T c. For La 0.825 3+ Sr 0.175 2 +Mn3+O 2.912 2? anion-deficient manganite, the specific magnetization, the dynamic magnetic susceptibility, and the heat capacity are investigated. This material is found to be an inhomogeneous ferromagnet below the Curie point T C ≈ 122 K, which is much lower than the Curie point determined for the stoichiometric composition (T C ≈ 268 K). An increase in magnetic field by two orders of magnitude leads to an increase in the Curie temperature by ΔT ≈ 12 K. The presence of oxygen vacancies leads to the frustration of a part, namely, V fr ≈ 22%, of the indirect Mn3+-O-Mn3+ exchange interactions, but the spin glass state is not realized. The ferromagnetic matrix of the material under study is characterized by a scatter in the exchange interaction intensities. The heat capacity is found to exhibit an anomalous behavior. Based on the Banerjee magnetic criterion, it is established that the ferromagnet-paramagnet transition observed for La 0.825 3+ Sr 0.175 2+ Mn3+O 2.912 2? anion-deficient manganite is a second-order thermodynamic phase transition. The mechanism and origin of the critical behavior of the system under investigation are discussed.  相似文献

The first thin La1?xAgyMnO3 epitaxial films (yx) were grown on SrTiO3 (110) substrates with silver present in the ionized state (Ag+) only. The Curie temperatures TC of the compositions with x = y = 0.05, x = y = 0.1, and x = 0.3 and y = 0.27 crystallizing in the hexagonal structure \(R\bar 3c\) above or close to room temperature. The temperature dependences of electrical resistivity ρ and of magnetoresistance ¦Δρ/ρ/¦ = ¦(ρH ? ρ H = 0)/ρH=0¦ pass through maxima near TC, with the magnetoresistance being negative and reaching colossal values of ~7–20% in a magnetic field H = 8.2 kOe not only at TC but also at room temperature. The magnetic moment per formula unit as derived from the saturation magnetization at T = 5 K is substantially smaller than expected for complete ferromagnetic ordering. The magnetization in fields of up to 6 kOe depends on the actual sample cooling conditions, and the hysteresis loop of a field-cooled sample is displaced along the H axis by ΔH. The above properties can be accounted for by the fact that the films are in a two-phase magnetic (ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic) state induced by strong s-d exchange. The maximum value of Δ H was used to calculate the energy of exchange coupling between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic parts of a sample.  相似文献

This paper reports on a study of the effect of oxygen deficiency on the magnetic and electrical properties of the La1 − x Sr x MnO3 − δ manganites (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4; δ = 0, 0.13, 0.2). In compositions with x = 0 and δ = 0.13 and 0.2, the temperature dependence of the magnetization M (T) can be approximated by the Langevin function with the moment of superparamagnetic clusters μ = 77μB (δ = 0.13) and 86μB (δ = 0.2) at temperatures of 25 K ≤ T ≤ 250 K, with the exception of a small temperature range near 132 K in which a maximum characteristic of the LaMnO3 antiferromagnet is seen. These compositions, as well as Sr-doped compositions with δ ≠ 0, reveal a difference between the magnetizations of the sample cooled in a weak magnetic field and in zero field. At T = 6 K in a magnetic field of 16 kOe, the compositions with x = 0.2 and 0.4, δ = 0.13 possess a magnetic moment per formula unit lower than that with δ = 0, as well as reveal an anomalous relation between the Curie temperature T C and the Curie paramagnetic point gJ, namely, T C > gJ. The magnetization of compositions with x = 0.2 and 0.4, δ = 0.2 follows the Langevin function with μ = 40μB and 130μB, respectively. The electrical resistivity of samples with x = 0.4 and δ = 0.13 and 0.2 is one to two orders of magnitude larger than that of the composition with x = 0.4, δ = 0, which evidences partial or complete compensation of acceptor defects (Sr2+ ions) by donor defects (doubly charged O2− vacancies). The above properties of oxygen-deficient compositions suggest that they contain an insulating ferro-antiferromagnetic magnetically double-phase state. The magnetoresistance and volume magnetostriction in samples with x = 0.4 and δ = 0, 0.13, and 0.2 are small; indeed, in a magnetic field of 8 kOe, they do not exceed 1.4% and 6 × 10−6, respectively. On this basis, it is concluded that the unbalanced doubly charged donors (O vacancies) are in the state with antiparallel spins and, thus, do not initiate the formation of ferron-type ferromagnetic clusters. The significance of both compensated and unbalanced doubly charged donors consists in that they give rise to the formation of fractured Mn-O-Mn bonds, which bring about lowering of the magnetic moment per formula unit in compositions with x = 0.2 and 0.4 and δ = 0.13 and the transition to superparamagnetism in compositions with x = 0.2 and 0.4, δ = 0.2. This paper reports on a study of the influence of oxygen deficiency on the magnetization, paramagnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, magnetoresistance, and volume magnetostriction of the La0.9Sr0.1MnO3 − y manganite with y = 0.03, 0.10, and 0.15. The magnetization M(T) behaves in a complex way with temperature; for T < 80 K, it only weakly depends on T, and at 80 ≤ T ≤ 300 K, the M(T) curve shows a falloff. Within the interval 240 K ≤ T ≤ 300 K, the long-range magnetic order breaks up into superparamagnetic clusters. For T < 80 K, the magnetic moment per formula unit is about one-fourth that which should be expected for complete ferromagnetic alignment of Mn ion moments. Although the composition with y = 0.03, in which part of acceptor centers is compensated by donors (oxygen vacancies), the negative magnetoresistance Δρ/ρ and volume magnetostriction ω are observed to pass through maxima near the Curie point, their values are one to two orders of magnitude smaller than those for the y = 0 composition. In compositions with y = 0.10 and 0.15 with electronic doping, the values of Δρ/ρ and ω are smaller by one to two orders of magnitude than those observed for the y = 0.03 composition. They do not display giant magnetoresistance and volume magnetostriction effects, which evidences the absence of ferrons near unionized oxygen vacancies. This allows the conclusion that the part played by both compensated and uncompensated doubly charged donors consists in forming dangling Mn-O-Mn bonds, which lead to a decrease in the Curie temperature with increasing y and to the formation above it of superparamagnetic clusters of the nonferron type.  相似文献

This paper reports on a study of the magnetic, transport, magnetotransport, elastic, and magnetoelastic properties of the R0.55Sr0.45MnO3 ceramics (R=Sm, Eu0.40Nd0.15, Tb0.25Nd0.30) with the same carrier concentration and identical tolerance factor but which differ in the cation disorder parameter σ2. It was found that the Curie temperature TC decreases linearly with increasing σ2. An increase in σ2 results in an increase in the maximum electrical resistivity and an increased jump in the temperature dependence of linear thermal expansion near TC, as well as in a decrease in magnetoresistance and magnetostriction. For T>TC, one observes an abrupt increase in magnetostriction, magnetization, and magnetoresistance in a critical FIeld HC1 which grows with increasing temperature. The value of HC1 determined at fixed T/TC decreases with increasing σ2.  相似文献
