We report on the real-space observation of resonant frequency splitting in a high-Q waveguide-coupled silicon-on-insulator microdisk resonator. Phase sensitive near-field analysis reveals the stationary nature of the two resonant states, and spectral investigations clearly show their orthogonality. These measurements emphasize the role of the coupling waveguide in this splitting phenomenon. The symmetry of the two stationary whispering gallery modes is clearly observed and is found to follow the axial symmetry of the waveguide-coupled microdisk as it has been reported by earlier theoretical predictions.  相似文献

Molecular relaxations determine the viscoelastic properties of polymers, which, in turn, control macroscopic processes like dewetting. Here, we demonstrate experimentally that the onset of rim instabilities is correlated with the longest relaxation ("reptation") time of the dewetting polymer. Conversely, such experiments allow us to determine the reptation time of polystyrene in thin films as a function of molecular weight. Our approach opens up new possibilities for testing rheological properties of polymers confined in thin films.  相似文献

We revisit the problem of computing the topology and geometry of a real algebraic plane curve. The topology is of prime interest but geometric information, such as the position of singular and critical points, is also relevant. A challenge is to compute efficiently this information for the given coordinate system even if the curve is not in generic position. Previous methods based on the cylindrical algebraic decomposition use sub-resultant sequences and computations with polynomials with algebraic coefficients. A novelty of our approach is to replace these tools by Gröbner basis computations and isolation with rational univariate representations. This has the advantage of avoiding computations with polynomials with algebraic coefficients, even in non-generic positions. Our algorithm isolates critical points in boxes and computes a decomposition of the plane by rectangular boxes. This decomposition also induces a new approach for computing an arrangement of polylines isotopic to the input curve. We also present an analysis of the complexity of our algorithm. An implementation of our algorithm demonstrates its efficiency, in particular on high-degree non-generic curves.  相似文献

We propose an exact method based on a multi-level search strategy for solving the 0-1 Multidimensional Knapsack Problem. Our search strategy is primarily based on the reduced costs of the non-basic variables of the LP-relaxation solution. Considering that the variables are sorted in decreasing order of their absolute reduced cost value, the top level branches of the search tree are enumerated following Resolution Search strategy, the middle level branches are enumerated following Branch & Bound strategy and the lower level branches are enumerated according to a simple Depth First Search enumeration strategy. Experimentally, this cooperative scheme is able to solve optimally large-scale strongly correlated 0-1 Multidimensional Knapsack Problem instances. The optimal values of all the 10 constraint, 500 variable instances and some of the 30 constraint, 250 variable instances of the OR-Library were found. These values were previously unknown.  相似文献

Ti4AlN3, Ti3AlC2 and Ti3Al0.8Sn0.2C2 MAX phases were plastically deformed at room temperature (RT) under gaseous confining pressure. Microstructures of as-grown and deformed samples are carefully analysed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It is demonstrated that high level of plastic deformation can be reached under confining gas pressure; the later suppresses the brittle failure at RT to the profit of plasticity. Multiscale characterization techniques are shown to provide a unique insight into all the scales of the plastic deformation; in particular, the effect of the mesoscale. Indeed, grain shape and orientation relative to the compression axis are shown to play a key role in the deformation process, intergranular stresses leading to a complex stress field in the polycrystalline samples. The TEM results show that dislocation activity highly depends on the grain orientation. The observation of dislocation entanglements unambiguously demonstrates that dislocations may be organized in such a configuration so that their glide in the basal plane can be hindered when deep plastic regime is reached.  相似文献

In order to test parameters of the peculiar dynamics occurring in barchan fields, and compute statistical analysis over large numbers of dunes, we build and study an agent-based model, which includes the well-known physics of an isolated barchan, and observations of interactions between dunes. We showed in a previous study that such a model, where barchans interact through short-range sand recapture and collisions, reproduces the peculiar behaviours of real fields, namely its spatial structuring along the wind direction, and the size selection by the local density. In this paper we focus on the mechanisms that drives these features. In particular, we show that eolian remote sand transfer between dunes ensures that a dense field structures itself into a very heterogeneous pattern, which alternates dense and diluted stripes in the wind direction. In these very dense clusters of dunes, the accumulation of collisions leads to the local emergence of a new size for the dunes.  相似文献

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent fluid with spontaneous electric and magnetic dipoles is analysed in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Taking into account the chemical composition of the current densities and stress tensors leads to three types of irreversible terms: scalars, vectors and pseudo-vectors. The scalar terms account for chemical reactivities, the vectorial terms account for transport and the pseudo-vectorial terms account for relaxation. The linear phenomenological relations, derived from the irreversible evolution, describe notably the Lehmann and electric Lehmann effects, the Debye relaxation of polar molecules and the Landau-Lifshitz relaxation of the magnetisation. This formalism accounts for the thermal and electric magnetisation accumulations and magnetisation waves. It also predicts that a temperature gradient affects the dynamics of magnetic vortices and drives magnetisation waves.  相似文献

At the ultra high frequency level, the notion of price of an asset is very ambiguous. Indeed, many different prices can be defined (last traded price, best bid price, mid price, etc.). Thus, in practice, market participants face the problem of choosing a price when implementing their strategies. In this work, we propose a notion of efficient price which seems relevant in practice. Exposure to solar UV is at the origin of numerous photodegradation pathways in biomolecules. Tryptophan is readily modified by UVB radiation into ring‐opened and oxidized photoproducts. One of them, 6‐formylindolo[3,2‐b]carbazole (FICZ), has been extensively studied in the recent years because it very efficiently binds to AhR, a major factor in numerous biologic processes, such as metabolism of xenobiotics. Unfortunately, little information is available on the actual yield of FICZ upon exposure to low and biologically relevant doses of UV radiation. In the present work, we used a sensitive and specific HPLC‐tandem mass spectrometry assay to quantify a series of photoproducts induced by UVB and simulated sunlight (SSL) in solutions of tryptophan. FICZ represented only a minute amount of the photoproducts (0.02 and 0.03%, respectively). Experiments were repeated in culture medium where the yield of FICZ was also found to be very low, even when Trp was added. Last, no FICZ could be detected in cytosolic fractions of cultured cells exposed to SSL. Altogether, the present results show that FICZ is a very minor photoproduct and that it cannot be considered the only endogenous photoproduct responsible for the induction of AhR‐dependent responses in UV‐irradiated cells.  相似文献
