New 5-arylamino-4-(5-nitrofuran-2-yl)pyrimidines as promising antibacterial agents

A facile synthetic approach to 5-arylamino-4-(5-nitrofuran- 2-yl)pyrimidines by the Buchwald–Hartwig cross-coupling with various anilines has been developed. All synthesized compounds demonstrated a significant level of in vitro antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Streptococcus pyogene and Staphylococcus aureus, including their drug-resistant strains, which is much higher than that of the commercial drug Spectinomycin.     

Interfacial shear rheology

This review summarises the interfacial shear rheology in the context of problems occurring during the measuring process. The main areas covered are surfactants, proteins, macromolecules, monolayers, particles or mixed systems at the gas/liquid and liquid/liquid interface. New developments in measuring techniques, in data analysis, modelling and theory will be discussed, while micro-rheological techniques using optical or magnetic tweezers are not in the scope of this contribution.     

Influence of UV pretreatment on the abies wood catalytic delignification in the medium “acetic acid–hydrogen peroxide–TiO2”

Some regularities of abies-wood oxidative delignification by acetic acid–hydrogen peroxide mixture under the action of suspended TiO₂ catalyst and UV pretreatment of wood pulp were studied. The combined action of TiO₂ catalyst and of UV-pretreatment of abies-wood allow to produce at optimal conditions of the delignification process the chemically pure cellulose containing no residual lignin. The major characteristics of cellulose product obtained from abies-wood correspond to the characteristics of microcrystalline cellulose.     

Reaction of 2-trifluoroacetyl-1,8-Bis(dimethylamino)naphthalene with strong organic bases: Deprotonation of 1-NMe2 group resulting in the formation of Benzo[g]indole derivatives versus nucleophilic addition to CO group

A novel approach to pyrrole ring closure in 2-trifluoroacetyl- and 2-ethoxycarbonyl-1,8-bis(dimethylamino)naphthalenes via treatment with 2-lithium-1,8-bis(dimethylamino)naphthalene producing the corresponding benzo[g]indole derivatives, was examined with different alkyl- and aryllithium compounds as well as with LDA. It was found that the highest yields of benzo[g]indoles (up to 70%) are obtained with aryllithium reagents when they contain NMe₂ group in ortho-position to the carbanionic centre. In all other cases the formation of acyclic alcohol arising from ordinary intermolecular addition of the carbanion to the CO group strongly prevails. The dramatic facilitation of deprotonation of the N-Me group in substrate followed by pyrrolic cyclization in the case of 2-lithium-N,N-dimethylanilines was explained through a specific structure of the reaction transition state.
