Relative populations of S-form (D-E rings: boat-boat form) and F-form (D-E rings: chair-chair form) conformers, in equilibrium in CDCl3 solutions, of 20 derivatives (2-21) of bryonolic acid (D:C-friedoolean-8-en-3beta-ol-29-oic acid) (1) were calculated from NMR spectral data (J-values and chemical shifts), with the aid of molecular mechanic calculation using a MM2/CONFLEX program system. The principal deciding factor of the population ratio was found to be whether the functionality at C-29 is trigonal or tetrahedral; the S-form: F-form was 0:100-32:68 for the "trigonal" type and 48:52-100:0 for the "tetrahedral." Conoscopic studies have been made on the helix unwinding process in the chiral smectic C phase of MHPOBC. The unwinding process is rather unique in the sense that abrupt changes of the biaxiality and apparent tilt angle are followed by further gradual changes before the complete helix unwinding. The process is qualitatively explained by simulating the conoscopic images using the 4 x 4 matrix method with consideration of model molecular distributions, by taking account of both the ferroelectric and dielectric coupling between molecules and a field. The transmittance loss due to selective reflection was also measured under the application of a stepwise d.c. field. The shift of the dip position due to the loss, toward a longer wavelength region, was observed at low field. In contrast, the emergence of a transmittance loss at the same wavelength as that of an unperturbed state was observed. This phenomenon is explained by the ferroelectric deformation of a helix with the pitch unchanged. 相似文献

The pyrolysis product of creatine showed potent mutagenic activity to Salmonella typhimurium TA98 with metabolic activation by S9 mix. One of the mutagenic substances in creatine pyrolysate was isolated and named Cre-P-1. Its structure was determined by X-ray crystallography to be 4-amino-1,6-dimethyl-2-methylamino-1H,6H-pyrrolo[3,4-f]benzimidazole- 5,7-dione. Cre-P-1 is the first registered mutagenic heterocyclic amine containing oxygen atoms in the molecule, that has been isolated from pyrolysis products. 相似文献

The original morphology of polytetrafluoroethylene prepared by radiation-induced emulsion polymerization was studied by electron microscopy. The morphology depends on molecular weight, which in turn depends on polymerization conditions, especially the emulsifier concentration. The molecular weight decreases with increasing emulsifier concentration. The morphology changes with molecular weight roughly as follows: fibrils below 105, rods between 105 and 5 × 105, and granular particle above 106. The crystallinity is high for all morphologies. 相似文献

Shuttlecock- and bowl-equipped 4-(phenylazo)pyridine derivatives, which bear substituents that allow the pyridine moiety to protrude in the trans form but hinder it in the cis form, have been designed and synthesized. Radiation-induced emulsion polymerization of ethylene with ammonium perfluoro-octanoate as an emulsifier was studied in order to elucidate the effect of the number of polymer particles. Owing to the stable structure of the emulsifier from a radical attack, no C? F bond was detected in the polyethylene as expected. The polyethylene produced was mostly gel containing a small amount of low molecular weight polyethylene. This may be attributable to chain transfer to the polyethylene. The effects of dose rate and of concentration of the emulsifier were determined without considering the chain-transfer reaction to the emulsifier. By considering the escape of the radical which is produced by chain transfer to the monomer from the polymer particle to the aqueous phase at the steady state, the following equation is derived: The experimental results could be explained by this equation, and the apparent rate constants were obtained. 相似文献

Prediction of transmembrane beta-strands in outer membrane proteins (OMP) is one of the important problems in computational chemistry and biology. In this work, we propose a method based on neural networks for identifying the membrane-spanning beta-strands. We introduce the concept of "residue probability" for assigning residues in transmembrane beta-strand segments. The performance of our method is evaluated with single-residue accuracy, correlation, specificity, and sensitivity. Our predicted segments show a good agreement with experimental observations with an accuracy level of 73% solely from amino acid sequence information. Further, the predictive power of N- and C-terminal residues in each segments, number of segments in each protein, and the influence of cutoff probability for identifying membrane-spanning beta-strands will be discussed. We have developed a Web server for predicting the transmembrane beta-strands from the amino acid sequence, and the prediction results are available at http://psfs.cbrc.jp/tmbeta-net/. 相似文献
