Enantio- and diastereoselective, stereospecific mannich-type reactions in water

Catalytic asymmetric Mannich-type reactions in water proceeded in high yields and selectivities using a combination of ZnF2 and a chiral diamine that has the methoxy groups on the aromatic rings. In these reactions, either syn- or anti-Mannich adducts were stereospecifically obtained from (E)- or (Z)-silicon enolate, in contrast with most asymmetric Mannich-type reactions.     

Diterpenes from the roots of Euphorbia kansui and their in vitro effects on the cell division of Xenopus (part 2)

Four new ingenane-type diterpenes, 3-O-(2,3-dimethylbutanoyl)-13-O-dodecanoyl-20-O-acetylingenol (1), 3-O-(2,3-dimethylbutanoyl)-13-O-dodecanoyl-20-deoxyingenol (2), 3-O-(2E,4Z-decadienoyl)-20-deoxyingenol (3), and 3-O-(2E,4E-decadienoyl)-20-deoxyingenol (4), two new jatrophane-type diterpenes, kansuinins D (9) and E (10), and four known ingenane-type diterpenes were isolated from the root of Euphorbia kansui. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical analysis, and individual Xenopus cells at the blastular stage were cultured with the diterpenes to test for biological activity. 20-Deoxyingenol diterpenes 3 and 4 induced the greatest cell cleavage arrest (0.5 micro g/ml of each compound resulted in >75% cleavage arrest), but cell cleavage inhibitory activity became weak when C-16 had an acyl residue. In contrast, the jatrophane diterpene kansuinin D (9) showed no activity.     

Synthesis and Odor Evaluation of Stereoisomers of Imine Derivatives in Roasted Spotted Shrimp

All possible stereoisomers of imine derivatives 1 – 4 , which have the characteristic roast odor of seafood, were synthesized. As a result of odor evaluation of all isomers, we found that each isomer has a different and characteristic odor of roasted seafood.     

TUMOR-LOCALIZING FLUORESCENT DIAGNOSTIC AGENTS WITHOUT PHOTOTOXICITY

In order to develop tumor-localizing fluorescent diagnostic agents without phototoxicity, various heterodimers linked by some spacers between a chlorine derivative and its Mn or Cu complex were synthesized. The representative agent of them was named HAT-D01 and has a molecular formula of m -phthalyl-{[13,17-bispropanoic acid-3-ethenyl-8-formylethylidene-7-hydroxy-2,7,12,18-tetramethyl-porphyrinate]-manganese (III)}-[3'-ethenyl-8'-formylethylidene-7'-hydroxy-2',7', 12', 18'-tetramethyl-porphine-13', 17'-bispropanoyl aspartic acid]-bishydrazone.     

Biosynthetic study of amphidinolide B

The biosynthetic origins of amphidinoide B (1) were investigated on the basis of 13C-NMR data of 13C-enriched samples obtained by feeding experiments with [1-(13)C], [2-(13)C], and [1,2-(13)C2] sodium acetates in cultures of a dinoflagellate Amphidinium sp. These incorporation patterns suggested that 1 was generated from three successive polyketide chains, an isolated C1 unit from C-2 of acetates, six branched C1 units from C-2 of acetates, and an "m-m" and an "m-m-m" unit derived only from C-2 of acetates. The labeling patterns of amphidinolide B (1) were different from those of amphidinolide H (2), a 26-membered macrolide closely related to 1.     

CHOICE OF COATINGS FOR THE OPTICAL ELEMENTS IN THE IRRADIATION SYSTEM OF VACUUM-ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION ABOVE 50 nm

The spectral throughput of a vacuum-ultraviolet irradiation system at the SOR-RING facility was examined with various combinations of aluminum-and gold-coated optical elements in a 2.2-m modified Wadsworth monochromator. We found that the optimum was a combination of an aluminum-coated collimating mirror, concave grating, and plane deflecting mirror, and a combination of a gold-coated collimating mirror, concave grating and an aluminum-coated plane deflecting mirror in the wavelength regions 190-110 nm and 110-50 nm, respectively.
