Effects of Alkaline Ferrocyanide on Non-faradaic Yields of Anodic Contact Glow Discharge Electrolysis: Determination of the Primary Yield of OH· Radicals

Non faradaic yields of anodic contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE) originate through H^· and OH^· radical generated during the process. Scavenging effects of Fe(CN) ₆ ^4? on OH^· radicals, in alkaline media have been investigated. A kinetic analysis of the competing reactions of O^? with different species in the system leads to an yield of 9.8?mol?mol?electron^?1 of OH^· and H^· radicals each in the liquid phase reaction zone of anodic CGDE in good agreement with the yield reported from a study involving H^· radical scavengers.     

Iridoid glucosides from Wendlandia tinctoria roots

A new iridoid glucoside, 8-O-(E)-caffeoylmussaenosidic acid (1), together with ixoside (2), was isolated from the roots of Wendlandia tinctoria. The structure of the new compound was established on the basis of detailed spectroscopic (2D NMR) and chemical analysis.

An improved method for determination of 7Be in mosses

We have measured ⁷Be activity in moss samples collected from in and around Mumbai, India. The use of heavily shielded Compton suppressor system is more efficient than the conventional gamma spectroscopic system for detection of ⁷Be. The ⁷Be accumulation capacities of mosses are more than other plant samples. Therefore monitoring of young moss samples by Compton suppressor system is an excellent tool for determination of atmospheric fallout of ⁷Be. A positive bias in the high altitude samples has been observed which might be due to any of the two reasons (i) higher cosmic ray flux in the high altitude or (ii) high pollution in the lower altitude area ultimately inhibits uptake of ⁷Be.     

Pd(0)-catalyzed intramolecular Heck reaction: A general route for fused oxepine derivatives

A simple and facile approach for the synthesis of various structurally different tricyclic bent oxepine frameworks from a readily accessible precursor has been introduced. The synthesis of substituted oxepine derivative involved Pd(0)-catalyzed Heck reaction. This methodology enriches the literature for the large ring formation.     

Suppression of the frequency drift of modulational instability sidebands by means of a fiber system associated with a photon reservoir

We analyze fiber systems where the linear losses act as a strong perturbation, causing a frequency drift of the modulational instability sidebands. We achieve the total suppression of this frequency drift by means of a technique based on the concept of a photon reservoir, which feeds in situ the process of modulational instability by continually supplying it the amount of photons absorbed by the fiber.     

Separation of no-carrier-added <Superscript>107,109</Superscript>Cd from proton induced silver target: classical chemistry still relevant

The classical chemistry like precipitation technique is relevant even in modern days trans-disciplinary research from the view point of green chemistry. A definite demand of no-carrier-added (nca) cadmium tracers, namely, ^107,109Cd, has been realized for diverse applications. Development of efficient separation technique is therefore important to address the purity of the tracers for various applications. No-carrier-added ^107,109Cd radionuclides were produced by bombarding natural silver target matrix with 13 MeV protons, which gave ~15 MBq/μA h yield for nca ¹⁰⁷Cd. The nca cadmium radionuclides were separated from the natural silver target matrix by precipitating Ag as AgCl. The developed method is an example wherein green chemistry is used in trans-disciplinary research. The method is also simple, fast, cost effective and environmentally benign.
