Universality two-dimensional Kauffman model for parallel and sequential updating

Kauffman's random Boolean nets are studied on the square lattice by computer simulation comparing parallel and sequential updating of the automata. At the phase transition the fractal dimensions of time and actual damage are found to be independent of the updating method.     

Affinity precipitation of enzymes

Lactate dehydrogenase has been purified by precipitation with a bis-ligand. The precipitating agent in this case was Bis-NAD. This approach of affinity precipitation is also applicable to other enzymes.     

Efficient upconversion fluorescence in a blue-emitting spirobifluorene-anthracene copolymer doped with low concentrations of Pt(II)octaethylporphyrin

Upconversion-induced fluorescence in platinum-octaethylporphyrin (PtOEP)-doped thin films of a spirobifluorene-anthracene copolymer has been investigated. Upon exciting in the range of the absorption band (2.31 eV, 537 nm) of the guest molecules, blue fluorescence (2.75 eV, 450 nm) from the spirobifluorene host was observed. The intensity of the upconverted emission was found to be one order of magnitude higher than from a PtOEP doped but anthracene-free spirobifluorene copolymer and than previously reported for metallated porphyrin-doped polyfluorene samples. It is argued that the efficient upconversion originates from the triplet energy transfer from the phosphorescent dopant to the sensitive unit of the host polymer, followed by triplet-triplet annihilation and finally blue emission from the spirobifluorene host polymer backbone.     

Relating field theories via stochastic quantization

This note aims to subsume several apparently unrelated models under a common framework. Several examples of well-known quantum field theories are listed which are connected via stochastic quantization. We highlight the fact that the quantization method used to obtain the quantum crystal is a discrete analog of stochastic quantization. This model is of interest for string theory, since the (classical) melting crystal corner is related to the topological A-model. We outline several ideas for interpreting the quantum crystal on the string theory side of the correspondence, exploring interpretations in the Wheeler–De Witt framework and in terms of a non-Lorentz invariant limit of topological M-theory.     

A primer on triangle functions II

In Saminger-Platz and Sempi (Aequationes Math 76:201–240, 2008) we presented an overview of concepts, facts and results on triangle functions based on the notions of t-norm, copula, (generalized) convolution, semicopula, quasi-copula. Here, we continue our presentation. In particular, we treat the concept of duality and study a few important cases of functional equations and inequalities for triangle functions like, e.g., convolution, Cauchy’s equation, dominance, and Jensen convexity.
