Solvent-Free Conversion of N,N-Dimethylhydrazones to Nitriles Under Microwave Irradiation

A variety of aldehyde N,N-dimethylhydrazones are rapidly converted into the corresponding nitriles using oxone supported on wet Al₂O₃ under microwave irradiation in dry media.     

Synthesis of (R)‐Japonilure and (4R,9Z)‐9‐Octadecen‐4‐olide,Pheromones of the Japanese Beetle and Currant Stem Girdler

Asymmetric total synthesis of the sex pheromones of Japanese beetle and currant stem girdler, (R)‐japonilure (1) and (4R,9Z)‐9‐octadecen‐4‐olide (2), has been achieved.     

A Mild and Versatile Method for the Tetrahydropyranylation of Alcohols and Their Detetrahydropyranylation

An efficient and mild method for tetrahydropyranylation of alcohols and their detetrahydropranylation using NH₄Cl is described. This protocol provides a useful alternative tetrahydropyranylation of alcohols and their deprotection at different pH.

     

CeCl3·7H2O-Catalyzed Synthesis of 1-Oxo-hexahydroxanthene Derivatives in Aqueous Media

Cerium(III) chloride heptahydrate (CeCl₃·7H₂O) catalyzes the reaction of substituted salicylaldehydes with 1,3-cyclohexane dione or dimedone in aqueous medium at reflux temperature to afford the corresponding 1-oxo-1,2,3,4,9,10-hexahydroxanthene derivatives4 0 in high yields.     

Synthesis of Some Novel bis‐Spiro[indole‐pyrazolinyl‐thiazolidine]‐2,4′‐diones

The reaction of 1H‐indol‐2,3‐diones with 1,6‐dibromohexane has resulted in the formation of new 1H‐indol‐2,3‐diones‐1,1′‐(1,6‐hexanediyl)bis in quantitative yields. These compounds have been used for the synthesis of novel [3′‐(2,3‐dimethyl‐5‐oxo‐1‐phenyl‐3‐pyrazolin‐4‐yl)spiro[3H‐indol‐3,2′‐thiazolidine]‐2,4′‐dione]‐1,1′‐(1,6‐hexanediyl)bis via bis Schiff's bases, [3‐(2,3‐dimethyl‐5‐oxo‐1‐phenyl‐3‐pyrazolin‐4‐yl) imino‐1H‐indol‐2‐one]‐1,1′‐(1,6‐hexanediyl)bis.     

Heteropoly Acids as Heterogeneous and Reusable Catalyst for α-Thiocyanation of Ketones

Simple, efficient, and mild method for α-thiocyanation of ketones in presence of heteropolyacid has been developed. This methodology offered α-oxothiocyanates in good to excellent yields at room temperature in a highly selective manner. The catalyst could be efficiently recovered from the reaction and reused.     

Zinc-Mediated Facile and Efficient Chemoselective S-Alkylation of 5-Aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols in the Absence of Base

Zinc-mediated facile and efficient chemoselective S-alkylation of 5-aryl 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols in the presence of a catalytic amount of tetra butyl ammonium iodide was described. The reaction was performed under neutral conditions. The chemoselectivity of the alkylation was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and x-ray crystallography.     

A Convenient Synthesis of (Z)-7-Nonadecen-Ll-One and (Z)-7-Eicosen-Ll-Cne -the Pheromones of Peach Fruit Moth

In 1977 Tamaki¹ et al have isolated and synthesized² (Z)-7-nonadecen-ll-one (la) and (Z)-7-eicosen-l1-one (1b) which are active components of the female sex pheromones of the peach fruit moth Carposina niponensis Walsingham, a major economic pest of apple, peach and other fruits of Japan. We report in this communication a practical, convenient and stereospecific route to 1a and 1b.     

Radical Cyclization Route to the Stereoselective Synthesis of (+)‐trans‐Cognac Lactone and (+)‐trans‐Aerangis Lactone

Stereoselective total synthesis of two chiral lactones, (+)‐trans‐cognac lactone (1b) and (+)‐trans‐aerangis lactone (2c), has been achieved from the same intermediate using a radical‐based cyclization route.     

Mild and Highly Efficient Protocol for the Synthesis of Benzimidazoles Using Samarium Triflate [Sm(OTf)3]

One-pot synthesis of benzimidazole compounds from ortho-phenylenediamine and a variety of aldehydes was developed under mild reaction conditions. All the reactions were carried out in the presence of samarium triflate (10 mol%) in acetonitrile at room temperature.
