Enantioselective one-pot three-component synthesis of propargylamines catalyzed by copper(I)–pyridine bis-(oxazoline) complexes

A one-pot three-component coupling of aldehydes and amines in presence of terminal alkynes has been efficiently catalyzed by copper (I) complex of i-Pr-pybox-diPh 2b or s-Bu-pybox-diPh 2c. The process is simple and allows the synthesis of various propargylamines in good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and in higher yields. The nature of the substituents attached to imines plays a vital role on the enantioselectivities obtained. The presence of gem-diphenyl group at C-5 position and secondary alkyl substituents at the C-4 chiral center of the oxazoline rings of the chiral ligands was found to be crucial for higher enantioselectivities. A transition state model involving π–π stacking is also proposed for the stereochemical outcome.     

Studies on testing and evaluation of platinum plated titanium electrode for production of uranous nitrate

Partitioning of plutonium from uranium is an important step in the reprocessing of spent fuel by PUREX process of solvent extraction using 30% TBP-dodecane. This is achieved by selectively reducing the Pu in solution to least extractable trivalent state by uranous nitrate as the reductant. The latter is conventionally produced by electrolytic reduction of uranyl ion in presence of hydrazine nitrate as uranous nitrate stabilizer using Pt-coated titanium as the anode. The anode plating wears out after period of operation thus affecting the process efficiency and hence the quality control testing of platinum plated electrode becomes important. This article describes the use of Beta backscattering method with strontium-90 radioisotope as non-destructive testing tool for measuring the coating thickness of the sample Ti electrode. The surface characteristics and coating morphology were also examined by scanning electron microscope and the micrographs are presented.     

Multiple scattering of gamma rays in water,concrete and sand

The transmitted photon spectra of¹³³Ba,²²Na,¹³⁷Cs,⁵⁴Mn and⁶⁰Co point sources are measured through different thicknesses of water, concrete and sand. The multiple-scatter peaks observed in these materials at 60, 90 and 100 keV energies respectively are found to be independent of incident photon energy and thickness of the medium.     

Infrared spectroscopy for the study of urinary calculi

The occurance of the urinary stones varies according to the geographical regions. The presence of stones in the urinary system causes pain and discomfort. These generate colics and hence are sometimes life threatening. In the present study, infrared measurements have been made on several stone samples. It has been found that calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, magnesiunm ammonium phosphate, calcium carbonate, uric acid, -cystine and xanthin are present, as expected. Also, silicon dioxide is found to be present in some of the stones but in small quantity, in addition to the above constituents. This constituent is responsible to exhibit piezoelectricity in the urinary calculi.     

Hermitian quark matrices

Assuming a relation between the quark mass matrices of the two sectors a unique solution can be obtained for the CKM flavor mixing matrix. A numerical example is worked out which is in excellent agreement with experimental data.     

High spin states in120Xe

High spin states in ¹²⁰Xe, populated via¹⁰⁷Ag(¹⁶O, p2n) and¹⁰⁸Pd(¹⁶O, 4n)reactions have been studied using γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. 21 new transitions have been added to extend the level scheme. Two S-bands are extended upto 26⁺ and 22⁺;these bands are found to cross the g. s band at hΩ=0. 39 and 0. 47 MeV. The band structures have been discussed within the framework of CSM.     

Effect of hadronic hard-core radius on the phase transition to an interacting quark-gluon plasma

The effect of volume corrections on the equations of state for the hadron gas by treating nucleons and antinucleons as hard-core particles or bags is studied. Its consequences on the critical values of temperatureT and chemical potential μ _B of the phase transition from a gas of finite sized hadrons to an interacting quark matter are explored.     

Ordered Si/Si–O nanowire array and its optical properties

Glancing angle deposition (GLAD) has been employed to fabricate the Si/Si–O nanowires (NWs). The perpendicular NW on silicon substrate shows the amorphous nature. The visible light emission from the NWs was observed from the Si/Si–O nanoparticles. High light absorption inside the Si/Si–O NW structure was recorded.
