CeCl3·7H2O-Catalyzed Synthesis of 1-Oxo-hexahydroxanthene Derivatives in Aqueous Media

Cerium(III) chloride heptahydrate (CeCl₃·7H₂O) catalyzes the reaction of substituted salicylaldehydes with 1,3-cyclohexane dione or dimedone in aqueous medium at reflux temperature to afford the corresponding 1-oxo-1,2,3,4,9,10-hexahydroxanthene derivatives4 0 in high yields.     

Heteropoly Acids as Heterogeneous and Reusable Catalyst for α-Thiocyanation of Ketones

Simple, efficient, and mild method for α-thiocyanation of ketones in presence of heteropolyacid has been developed. This methodology offered α-oxothiocyanates in good to excellent yields at room temperature in a highly selective manner. The catalyst could be efficiently recovered from the reaction and reused.     

Zinc-Mediated Facile and Efficient Chemoselective S-Alkylation of 5-Aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols in the Absence of Base

Zinc-mediated facile and efficient chemoselective S-alkylation of 5-aryl 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols in the presence of a catalytic amount of tetra butyl ammonium iodide was described. The reaction was performed under neutral conditions. The chemoselectivity of the alkylation was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and x-ray crystallography.     

A Convenient Synthesis of (Z)-7-Nonadecen-Ll-One and (Z)-7-Eicosen-Ll-Cne -the Pheromones of Peach Fruit Moth

In 1977 Tamaki¹ et al have isolated and synthesized² (Z)-7-nonadecen-ll-one (la) and (Z)-7-eicosen-l1-one (1b) which are active components of the female sex pheromones of the peach fruit moth Carposina niponensis Walsingham, a major economic pest of apple, peach and other fruits of Japan. We report in this communication a practical, convenient and stereospecific route to 1a and 1b.     

Radical Cyclization Route to the Stereoselective Synthesis of (+)‐trans‐Cognac Lactone and (+)‐trans‐Aerangis Lactone

Stereoselective total synthesis of two chiral lactones, (+)‐trans‐cognac lactone (1b) and (+)‐trans‐aerangis lactone (2c), has been achieved from the same intermediate using a radical‐based cyclization route.     

Mild and Highly Efficient Protocol for the Synthesis of Benzimidazoles Using Samarium Triflate [Sm(OTf)3]

One-pot synthesis of benzimidazole compounds from ortho-phenylenediamine and a variety of aldehydes was developed under mild reaction conditions. All the reactions were carried out in the presence of samarium triflate (10 mol%) in acetonitrile at room temperature.     

Stereoselective total synthesis of (−)-brevisamide

The stereoselective total synthesis of (−)-brevisamide, a novel marine cyclic ether alkaloid isolated from dinoflagellate karenia brevis is described. The key steps involved in this synthesis are the Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation and regioselective ring opening of chiral epoxide by Gilman's reagent. The tetrahydropyran core has been constructed by an intramolecular S_N2 cyclisation.     

Carrier facilitated transport of thorium from HCl medium using Cyanex 923 in n-dodecane containing supported liquid membrane

Present studies deal with supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique for the separation of thorium from hydrochloric acid (HCl) medium using Cyanex 923 as a carrier. Effects of feed acidity, strippant, and membrane pore size and membrane thickness on the transport of thorium have been studied in detail. The optimized parameters were applied for separation of thorium from a radioanalytical waste. Stability of the membrane and membrane support was investigated. Transport of thorium increased from 78.3 to about 93.7 % with increase in acidity from 0.5 to 2 M using 0.3 M Cyanex 923 in n-dodecane as carrier and 2 M ammonium carbonate as stripping phase. The transport of thorium decreased above 2 M HCl. An attempt was made to model the physicochemical transport of thorium in SLM and understand the mechanism of thorium transport.     

An organocatalytic synthesis of N-sulfonyl imines using chloramine-T in aqueous medium

N-Sulfonyl imines have been synthesized in good to excellent yields from aldehydes and chloramine-T using proline as an organocatalyst in aqueous medium at ambient temperature. The protocol is applicable to a wide range of aldehydes, especially enals exhibit remarkable efficiency in the reaction. The reaction presumably occurs via iminium activation and opens new avenues for the synthesis of N-sulfonyl imines under environmentally benign and mild conditions.
