The simulation of plane impinging jets using the Lagrangian technique of smooth particle hydrodynamics is presented. In Section 1 the impingement of a plane jet onto a stationary surface is considered for Reynolds numbers 800, 4000, 8000 and Froude number 4. For each case, the height of the associated streams is measured and compared with both experimental and theoretical results. The agreement between these results is found to be close for most impingement angles. In the second section, impingement onto a moving surface is considered for Reynolds numbers of 50 and 800 and Froude numbers of 1 and 4. The preliminary results show that the moving surface can lead to some spatial height variation in at least one of the streams.  相似文献

A principal limitation of single-molecule spectroscopy in solution is the diffusion-limited residence time of a given molecule within the detection volume. A common solution to this problem is to immobilize molecules of interest on a passivated glass surface for extending the observation time to obtain reliable data statistics. However, surface tethering of molecules often introduces artifacts, particularly when studying the structural dynamics of biomolecules. To circumvent this limitation, we investigated alternative ways to extend single-molecule observation times in solution without surface immobilization. Among various possibilities, the so-called anti-Brownian electro-kinetic trap (or ABEL trap) seems best suited to achieve this goal. The essential part of that trap is a feedback-controlled electro-kinetic steering of a molecule’s position in reaction to its diffusive Brownian motion which is monitored by fluorescence, thus keeping the molecule within a sub-micron sized detection volume. Fluorescence trace recordings of over thousands of milliseconds duration on individual dye molecules within an ABEL trap have been reported. In this short review, we shall briefly discuss the principle and some results of ABEL trapping of individual molecules with possible extensions to future works.  相似文献

Neocarzinostatin (NCS) is a 1:1 complex of an enediyne chromophore (NCSChrom), non-covalently bound to an 11 kDa protein (apoNCS). We are exploring apoNCS as a generic protein system for sequestering small molecules for therapeutic applications. Here, we disclose a new flavone ligand 1 for apoNCS and present a high-resolution NMR structure of this ligand bound to apoNCS. This is the first high-resolution structure of a completely non-cognate ligand bound to the apoNCS protein. This work provides unambiguous evidence that a completely new class of ligand can bind specifically to apoNCS. Furthermore, the mode of binding is different than that of the naphthoate-based ligands, and for such a simple hydrophobic compound, the new ligand surprisingly binds specifically. This work indicates that apo-Neocarzinostatin has multiple selective and distinct binding modes for small-molecule cargo.  相似文献

A new ultrasonic method — thermoacoustic analysis — is reported for the detection of the added chemical preservatives in branded milk. The nature of variation and shift in the thermal response of the acoustic parameters specific acoustic impedance, adiabatic compressibility and Rao’s specific sound velocity for different samples of branded milk as compared to the chemical added pure milk are explained as due to the presence of chemicals in these branded samples.  相似文献
