The crystallization behavior of two Cu60Ti40 amorphous alloys, one prepared by a vapor-quench (VQ) process and one by a liquid-quench (LQ) process, has been studied using differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. Microstructural studies show that the two alloys have the same transformation sequence under similar annealing conditions. However DSC measurements of the crystallization temperature during isochronal annealing and of the incubation time for crystallization during isothermal annealing show that the LQ alloy is more thermally stable and therefore more structurally relaxed. TEM analysis of the partially annealed microstructures gives some insight into the mode of crystal nucleation and growth as a function of temperature. During isothermal annealing significant differences are observed for the two alloys in the shape and orientation of the crystals and in the crystal structure formed. Whereas the VQ alloy transforms polymorphicaly into the intermetallic Cu3Ti2, the LQ alloy forms the Ti-rich phase, Cu4Ti3. The two phases are closely related in structure and composition. The differences observed for the two alloys are discussed in terms of greater structural relaxation and short range order in the LQ alloy resulting from the mode of synthesis.  相似文献

The acid-catalyzed rearrangement of diaryl-dilactones, readily obtained by oxidation of ferulic acid derivatives, is examined as a synthesis route to aryltetralins. Two structures which have been proposed for the lignan, phyltetralin, are shown by synthesis of the two diastereomeric 1-veratryltetralins (3A) and (3B), to be untenable. Conidendrin has been converted to isolariciresinol tetramethyl ether (21) and comparison of empirical constants and spectra with those reported for phyltetralin strongly suggest that the lignan has the enantiomeric constitution (26).  相似文献

When natural rubber crystallizes at low temperatures, there is an increase in elastic modulus of up to two orders of magnitude. This phenomenon has been studied at various temperatures in the range 0 to ?55°C for samples held at tensile strains of up to 500%. There is an induction period associated with the nucleation of crystallites, before any increase in modulus is observed. The induction period increases with decreasing strain and passes through a minimum with increasing temperature at ?25°C. The growth rate subsequent to nucleation is successfully described in terms of Avrami-type rate relationships. The Avrami rate coefficient is independent of temperature and follows a simple exponential function of strain. The equilibrium extent of the modulus increase has also been studied by means of experiments of up to three months' duration. The equilibrium modulus increases with decreasing temperature—as predicted by Flory's thermodynamic theory.  相似文献

In [Found. Comput. Math., 2 (2002), pp. 203-245], Cohen, Dahmen, and DeVore proposed an adaptive wavelet algorithm for solving general operator equations. Assuming that the operator defines a boundedly invertible mapping between a Hilbert space and its dual, and that a Riesz basis of wavelet type for this Hilbert space is available, the operator equation is transformed into an equivalent well-posed infinite matrix-vector system. This system is solved by an iterative method, where each application of the infinite stiffness matrix is replaced by an adaptive approximation. It was shown that if the errors of the best linear combinations from the wavelet basis with terms are for some , which is determined by the Besov regularity of the solution and the order of the wavelet basis, then approximations yielded by the adaptive method with terms also have errors of . Moreover, their computation takes only operations, provided , with being a measure of how well the infinite stiffness matrix with respect to the wavelet basis can be approximated by computable sparse matrices. Under appropriate conditions on the wavelet basis, for both differential and singular integral operators and for the relevant range of , in [SIAM J. Math. Anal., 35(5) (2004), pp. 1110-1132] we showed that , assuming that each entry of the stiffness matrix is exactly available at unit cost.

Generally these entries have to be approximated using numerical quadrature. In this paper, restricting ourselves to differential operators, we develop a numerical integration scheme that computes these entries giving an additional error that is consistent with the approximation error, whereas in each column the average computational cost per entry is . As a consequence, we can conclude that the adaptive wavelet algorithm has optimal computational complexity.

Calorimetric techniques have revealed that the enthalpy of reaction with water is more exothermic by about 2.2 kcal/mol, for the perdeuteriated naphthalene anion radical (K+C10D8*-(s) + H2O(liq) --> 1/2C10D8H2(s) + 1/2C10D8(s) + KOH(aq)) than it is for the perprotiated system. These results, when coupled with the known enthalpy of electron transfer between naphthalene and its perdeuteriated analogue imply that the heat of hydrogenation of naphthalene decreases by about 1.8 kcal/mol upon perdeuteriation of the naphthalene.  相似文献

The increased blood oxygenation level-dependent contrast available at high field makes the implementation of combined EEG/fMRI experiments at 7 T highly worthwhile from the point of view of fMRI data quality, but the higher field poses greater technical challenges for achieving good quality EEG data. A study of the feasibility of recording EEG signals from human subjects at 7 T using a commercially available, MR-compatible EEG system has therefore been carried out. This involved systematic measurement of the sources of noise in EEG recordings made in the 7 T scanner and measurement of RF heating effects on a gel phantom in the presence of a 32-electrode EEG cap. Having found no significant safety concerns and identified a set-up (involving switching off the magnet's cryo-cooler pumps and mounting the EEG amplifier on a cantilever) that limited scanner-induced noise, combined EEG/fMRI experiments employing visual stimulation were then successfully carried out on two human subjects. With the use of beamformer-based analysis of the EEG data, driven responses and alpha-band, event-related desynchronisation were identified in both subjects.  相似文献
