We report the results of a study of white light generation in a 7.5 cm long crystal of a high band-gap material, barium fluoride, using ultrashort (<42 fs) laser pulses over a range of values of incident laser power that extend up to more than three orders of magnitude larger than the critical power for self-focusing (Pcr). We explore white light generation and the intensity and spectral distributions within filaments that are formed as a result of the interplay of self-focusing and plasma-induced defocusing. The onset of plasma effects occurs at power levels in excess of 7 GW for ultrashort pulses in BaF2. For incident power levels that are three orders of magnitude larger than the critical power, blue-shifting of the incident laser wavelength is observed in addition to asymmetric continuum generation. The blue shift enables us to estimate the temporal variation of the electron density in the plasma that is generated within the BaF2 crystal. We have used x-ray fluorescence analysis to study the elemental composition of gunshot residues from smooth-bore and rifled-bore
guns. We have established that it is possible to differentiate between types of projectiles (jacketed/lead), types of primers
(corrosive/noncorrosive), and types of propellant powders (black/smokeless) by analysis of the elemental composition of the
gunshot residues. We have shown that the mercury content in gunshot residues on the surface of the object carrying the residues
steadily decreases as storage time increases. Despite this fact, mercury can be preserved as a component of gunshot residues
on the object (cotton cloth) under room conditions for more than 45 days.

The plastic deformation field near the horizontal surface of a half space of perfectly plastic material associated with an indenting rotating rigid tooth is studied using slip line theory. The tooth is one of many on a roll surface and indents first into the half-space material and then rotates about the roll center. A slip line field is proposed for the deforming plastic region and a solution scheme is outlined. The emphasis is on determining the shape of the deforming region, especially that of the free surface. The study has a potential application in roughness transfer in metal forming processing. 相似文献

An amorphous phase containing traces of non-transformed Co and Ti powders was obtained by mechanical alloying nominal compositions of Co67Ti33 and Co50Ti50 in a high-energy ball-mill. These alloys were prepared from elemental powders of Co and Ti. The heat treatment of Co67Ti33 at 573, 873 and 1173 K crystallized nanoparticles of Co2Ti and Co3Ti compounds, while the same treatments conducted on Co50Ti50 resulted in the formation of Co2Ti and CoTi nanoparticles. The saturation magnetizations reached a maximum value in the amorphous state and they decreased when the temperatures of the heat treatment rose. Demagnetizing interparticle interaction effects were estimated through hysteresis loops and initial magnetization curves using the Fourier technique. 相似文献

The nuclear magnetic resonance in beta-active nuclei 8Li at the doubled Larmor frequency in LiF polycrystals is studied before and after treating these polycrystals with an external pressure. A quantitative approach is proposed that makes it possible to calculate the parameters of the resonance line-shape function versus the dislocation structure of crystallites. Data suggesting that the samples under investigation that were subjected to a treatment with an external pressure develop dislocations whose Burgers vectors are parallel are obtained. 相似文献

The diffusion of carbon atoms between the volume and the surface of (100) molybdenum is directly studied at temperatures between 1400 and 2000 K (i.e., at process temperatures) for the first time. The balance of carbon atoms in the system is determined. The difference in the activation energies of carbon dissolution and precipitation, ΔE=E s 1-E1s, is found for the case when the diffusion fluxes of dissolved and precipitated carbon atoms are in equilibrium. This difference defines the enrichment of the surface by carbon relative to the bulk. The experimentally found activation energy of carbon dissolution is Es1=3.9 eV. The activation energy of carbon precipitation is estimated at E 1 s=1.9 eV. The latter value is close to the energy of bulk diffusion of carbon in molybdenum. 相似文献

The photoelectron spectra (PES) of anions of uracil-glycine and uracil-phenylalanine complexes reveal broad features with
maxima at 1.8 and 2.0 eV. The results of ab initio density functional B3LYP and second order M?ller-Plesset theory calculations indicate that the excess electron occupies a
π* orbital localized on uracil. The excess electron attachment to the complex can induce a barrier-free proton transfer (BFPT)
from the carboxylic group of glycine to the O8 atom of uracil. As a result, the four most stable structures of the anion of
uracil-glycine complex can be characterized as the neutral radical of hydrogenated uracil solvated by the anion of deprotonated
glycine. The similarity between the PES spectra for the uracil complexes with glycine and phenylalanine suggests that the
BFPT is also operative in the case of the latter anionic species. The BFPT to the O8 atom of uracil may be related to the
damage of nucleic acid bases by low energy electrons because the O8 atom is involved in a hydrogen bond with adenine in the
standard Watson-Crick pairing scheme.

The generation of harmonics of the voltage response is considered when an AC current is applied through a superconducting
film above Tc. It is shown that almost at all temperatures the mechanism of the temperature oscillations created by the AC current and
the temperature dependence of the resistance dominates over the isothermal nonlinear electric conductivity. Only in a narrow
critical region close to Tc the latter is essential for the generation of the harmonics. A detailed investigation of harmonics generation provides an
accurate method for measuring the thermal boundary conductance between the film and the insulating substrate. The critical
behaviour of the third harmonic will give a new method for the determination of the lifetime of metastable Cooper pairs above
Tc. The comparison of the calculated fifth harmonics of the voltage with the experiment is proposed as an important test for
the applicability of the employed theoretical models.
