[Me2AlBi(SiMe3)2]3—The First Structurally Characterized Organometallic Compound Containing a Bond between an Element of Group 13 and Bi

Dehydrosilylation of Bi(SiMe₃)₃ with Me₂AlH gave the title compound. This has a trimeric structure, the central unit of which is a six-membered Al₃Bi₃ ring (see structure). In agreement with the VSEPR model the angles are greater at the Al centers and smaller at the Bi centers.     

Domino Hydroformylation-Wittig Reactions

Methallyl and homomethallyl alcohols can undergo stereoselective hydroformylation-Wittig and hydroformylation-Wittig-hydrogenation reactions in one-pot domino processes. This sequential transformation allows the formation of C−C bonds and the generation of a new stereogenic center, and gives preparatively interesting compounds [Eq. (a)]. The reaction products are obtained in satisfactory to good yields and in diastereoselectivities of 90:10 to >98:2. CDG=catalyst-directing group; R′=H; R″=OEt, Me.     

Memory of Chirality in Electron Transfer Mediated Benzylic Umpolung Reactions of Arene–Cr(CO)3 Complexes

As density functional calculations suggest , Cr(CO)₃-complexed benzylic radicals (such as 2 ) exhibit a significant degree of configurational stablility. This was exploited in an efficient method for the electron transfer mediated transformations of readily available 1-arylalkanol–Cr(CO)₃ derivatives 1 to afford alkylated products 3 in good yields and with a high degree of stereochemical retention.     

Template-induced control of stereochemistry for the synthesis of linear vinyl polymers

Asymmetric cyclocopolymerization of judiciously designed bifunctional monomers with a number of common comonomers affords optically active vinyl polymers with main chain chirality. Tacticity and sequence of comonomeric units can be controlled and thus complicated structures built up. Under different reaction conditions the same bifunctional monomer 1 can undergo cyclization involving a 19-, a 21-, or an 18-membered ring. With monomer 3 an 11-membered ring is formed.     

Wind Gusts and Small Scale Intermittency in Atmospheric Flows

We introduce a model that interprets atmospheric increment statistics as a large scale mixture of subsets of isotropic statistics. When mixing is weak the same statistics as for isotropic turbulence is recovered while for strong mixing robust intermittency is obtained. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
