The Photon-Ion Spectrometer at PETRA III—in short, PIPE—is a permanently installed user facility at the "Variable Polarization XUV Beamline" P04 of the synchrotron light source PETRA III operated by DESY in Hamburg, Germany. The careful design of the PIPE ion-optics in combination with the record-high photon flux at P04 has lead to a breakthrough in experimental studies of photon interactions with ionized small quantum systems. This short review provides an overview over the published scientific results from photon-ion merged-beams experiments at PIPE that were obtained since the start of P04 operations in 2013. The topics covered comprise photoionization of ions of astrophysical relevance, quantitative studies of multi-electron processes upon inner-shell photoexcitation and photoionization of negative and positive atomic ions, precision spectroscopy of photoionization resonances, photoionization and photofragmentation of molecular ions, and of endohedral fullerene ions.  相似文献

One challenge in the development of new drug formulations is overcoming their low solubility in relevant aqueous media. Reducing the particle size of drug powders to a few hundred nanometers is a well-known method that leads to an increase in solubility due to an elevated total surface area. However, state-of-the-art comminution techniques like cryo-milling suffer from degradation and contamination of the drugs, particularly when sub-micrometer diameters are aspired that require long processing times. In this work, picosecond-pulsed laser fragmentation in liquids (LFL) of dispersed drug particles in a liquid-jet passage reactor is used as a wear-free comminution technique using the hydrophobic oral model drugs naproxen, prednisolone, ketoconazole, and megestrol acetate. Particle size and morphology of the drug particles are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and changes in particle size distributions upon irradiation are quantified using an analytical centrifuge. The findings highlight the superior fragmentation efficiency of the liquid-jet passage reactor setup, with a 100 times higher fraction of submicrometer particles (SMP) of the drugs compared to the batch control, which enhances solubility and goes along with minimal chemical degradation (<1%), determined by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Moreover, the underlying predominantly photo-mechanically induced laser fragmentation mechanisms of organic microparticles (MP) are discussed.  相似文献

Many tools in production technology are nowadays coated to obtain a satisfactory lifetime and degradation resistance. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to investigate antiadhesive and wear resistant coatings made of ceramics, plastics and metals produced by High Power Pulsed Magnetron Sputtering (HPPMS) technique [1]. A cohesive zone element technique (CZ) is applied to model the interactions of the coatings and the substrate surfaces (see [2]). This goes along with the investigations of the delamination and failure behavior of the involved surfaces. To illustrate the applicability of the model, several structural simulations are performed. The developed CZ element model is capable of modeling the separation, the contact and also the irreversible reloading conditions in both normal and tangential directions [3]. The model is further developed to be applicable for different structures including different bonding behaviors, with a higher stability. In this paper, the Ni/Al hybrid open-cell foams are characterized on different hierarchical levels by means of experiments and numerical modeling from the atomic to the microscale. In order to study collisions between ions and neutrals, a new Guided Ion Beam (GIB) apparatus, called NOVion, has been assembled and tested. The primary purpose of this instrument is to measure absolute cross sections at energies relevant for technical or inter- and circumstellar plasmas. New and improved results are presented for forming H3+ in collisions of H2+ with H2. Between 0.1 eV and 2 eV, our measured effective cross sections are in good overall agreement with most previous measurements. However, at higher energies, our results do not show the steep decline, recommended in the standard literature. After critical evaluation of all experimental and theoretical data, a new analytical function is proposed, describing properly the dependence of the title reaction on the collision energy up to 10 eV.  相似文献

The development of a novel generation of excimer UV lamps enables versatile applications of quasi-monochromatic UV radiation. For example, xenon-excimer flow-through photoreactors may be used for wastewater treatment. The vacuum-UV radiation (λ = 172 nm) initiates water cleavage with formation of H atoms and oxidizing hydroxyl radicals. The latter are responsible for the photomineralization of organic substrates. An automated model reactor demonstrates the basic concepts of this advanced oxidation process.  相似文献
