Cyclopropanation of 2-arylmethylidenemalononitriles,alkyl 3-aryl-2-cyanoprop-2-enoates,and N-substituted 3-aryl-2-cyanoprop-2-enamides with bromine-containing zinc enolates

Zinc enolates derived from 2,2-dibromoindan-1-one and 2,2-dibromo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-one reacted with 2-arylmethylidenemalononitriles, alkyl 3-aryl-2-cyanoprop-2-enoates, and N-substituted 3-aryl-2-cyanoprop-2-enamides to give, respectively, 3-aryl-1′-oxo-1′,3′-dihydrospiro[cyclopropane-1,2′-indene]-2-2-dicarbonitriles, 3-aryl-1′-oxo-3′,4′-dihydro-1′H-spiro[cyclopropane-1,2′-naphthalene]-2,2-dicarbonitriles, alkyl 3-aryl-2-cyano-1′-oxo-1′,3′-dihydrospiro[cyclopropane-1,2′-indene]-2-carboxylates, alkyl 3-aryl-2-cyano-1′-oxo-3′,4′-dihydro-1′H-spiro[cyclopropane-1,2′-naphthalene]-2-carboxylates, and N-substituted 3-aryl-2-cyanol-1′-oxo-3′,4′-dihydro-1′H-spiro[cyclopropane-1,2′-naphthalene]-2-carboxamides as a single diastereoisomer. The stereoconfiguration of the products was determined by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy.     

A spectral study of the interaction of dioxygen with sublimed layers of manganese(ii)meso-tetraphenylporphyrinate

The low-temperature interaction of sublimed layers of manganese(ii)meso-tetraphenylporphyrinate (MnTPP) with O₂, which has previously been observed only in solutions and in an inert gas matrix, was found by electron absorption and IR spectroscopy. The coordination of O₂ with sublimed MnTPP layers is only partially reversible. Bands that can serve as IR-spectral markers characteristic of the high-spin Mn^II ion in MnTPP and its axial complexes were observed. Published inIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Measurement of the electric form factor of the neutron through d-->(e-->,e(')n)p at Q2 = 0.5 (GeV/c)(2)

We report the first measurement using a solid polarized target of the neutron electric form factor G(n)(E) via d-->(e-->,e(')n)p. G(n)(E) was determined from the beam-target asymmetry in the scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from polarized deuterated ammonia ( 15ND3). The measurement was performed in Hall C at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in quasifree kinematics with the target polarization perpendicular to the momentum transfer. The electrons were detected in a magnetic spectrometer in coincidence with neutrons in a large solid angle segmented detector. We find G(n)(E) = 0.04632+/-0.00616(stat)+/-0.00341(syst) at Q2 = 0.495 (GeV/c)(2).     

High resolution spectroscopy of the 12Lambda B hypernucleus produced by the (e,e'K+) reaction

High-energy, cw electron beams at new accelerator facilities allow electromagnetic production and precision study of hypernuclear structure, and we report here on the first experiment demonstrating the potential of the (e,e'K+) reaction for hypernuclear spectroscopy. This experiment is also the first to take advantage of the enhanced virtual photon flux available when electrons are scattered at approximately zero degrees. The observed energy resolution was found to be approximately 900 keV for the (12)(Lambda)B spectrum, and is substantially better than any previous hypernuclear experiment using magnetic spectrometers. The positions of the major excitations are found to be in agreement with a theoretical prediction and with a previous binding energy measurement, but additional structure is also observed in the core excited region, underlining the future promise of this technique.     

New derivatives of meso-(tetra-4-pyridyl)porphine and their reactions

Some reactions of Co-meso(tetra-4-pyridyl)porphine were carried out, and a cyanopyridine complex was isolated. New water-soluble complexes based on Co-meso-(tetra-4-N-hydroxyethylpyridyl)porphine were obtained. Chemiluminescent evaluation of peroxide value in olive oil

A method is described for the evaluation of the peroxide value (PV, meq. O₂ kg⁻¹) in olive oil. The method is based on the chemiluminogenic energy-transfer reaction of bis(2,4,6-(trichlorophenyl)oxalate (TCPO) with hydrogen peroxide or total peroxides in the presence of Mn(II) as catalyst and 9,10-dimethylanthracene as fluorophore. The procedure developed allows the evaluation of PV within the range of 0.6-100 meq. O₂ kg⁻¹ (CL intensity = 1.76 × PV (meq. O₂ kg⁻¹) + 23.2, r² = 0.994, n = 9) and relative standard deviation within the range 1-5% by using a simple manual measurement.     

Measurement of deeply virtual compton scattering beam-spin asymmetries

The beam-spin asymmetries in the hard exclusive electroproduction of photons on the proton (e p-->epgamma) were measured over a wide kinematic range and with high statistical accuracy. These asymmetries result from the interference of the Bethe-Heitler process and of deeply virtual Compton scattering. Over the whole kinematic range (x(B) from 0.11 to 0.58, Q2 from 1 to 4.8 GeV2, -t from 0.09 to 1.8 GeV2), the azimuthal dependence of the asymmetries is compatible with expectations from leading-twist dominance, A approximately a sinphi/(1+c cosphi). This extensive set of data can thus be used to constrain significantly the generalized parton distributions of the nucleon in the valence quark sector.     

Reaction of primary and secondary enamines with anhydrides of unsaturated dicarboxylic acids

It was established that donor-acceptor complexes are formed in the reaction of some conjugated enamines with anhydrides of unsaturated dicarboxylic acids; in all likelihood, this constitutes evidence in favor of a scheme that includes nucleophilic addition of the enamine to the double bond. Addition of this type with subsequent intramolecular cyclization leads to the formation of ²-pyrrolin-5-ones. In the case of citraconic anhydride it is shown (on the basis of data from the PMR and mass spectra) that nucleophilic attack is directed to the unsubstituted carbon atom of the ethylene bond.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 4, pp. 474–476, April, 1977.
