Several techniques exist to obtain brilliant X-ray beams by coherent reflection from relativistic electrons (E e=γ mc 2) with Doppler frequency upshift of 4γ 2. We describe a new approach starting with an ultra-thin solid target. Larger ‘driver’-laser intensities with high contrast are required to produce dense electron sheets. Their acceleration in vacuum results in a transverse momentum component besides the dominant longitudinal momentum component. The counter-propagating ‘production’ laser for optimum Doppler boost in X-ray production by reflection has to be injected opposite to the electron direction and not opposite to the driver laser. Different measures to increase the reflectivity of the electron sheet via laser trapping or free-electron-laser-like micro-bunching are discussed, extending the photon energy into the MeV range. We study the alignment of polar biofilaments, such as microtubules and actin, subject to the action of multiple molecular
motors attached simultaneously to more than one filament. Focusing on a paradigm model of only two filaments interacting with
multiple motors, we were able to investigate in detail the alignment dynamics. While almost no alignment occurs in the case
of a single motor, the filaments become rapidly aligned due to the collective action of the motors. Our analysis shows that
the alignment time is governed by the number of bound motors and the magnitude of the motors’ stepping fluctuations. We predict
that the time scale of alignment is in the order of seconds, much faster than that reported for passive crosslink-induced
bundling. In vitro experiments on the alignment of microtubules by multiple-motor covered beads are in qualitative agreement. We also discuss

Photoemission and Auger electron spectroscopy on Pt0.98Cu0.02 show that the (110) face has over twice as much Cu surface segregation as the (111) face. The Cu 3d-derived surface “density of states” differ strikingly in peak shape and in width (by 0.5 eV). The centroids, compared with bulk Cu d states, are shifted by more than 0.3 eV towards the Fermi level. Elastography is a technique to assess the viscoelastic properties of tissue by measuring an acoustic wave propagating though the object. Here, the technique is applied in the course of standard MR mammography to 15 patients with different pathologies (six breast cancer cases, six fibroadenoma cases and three mastopathy cases). Low-frequency mechanical waves are coupled longitudinally into the tissue in order to obtain sufficient wave amplitude throughout the entire breast. This leads to the presence of a substantial fraction of compressional waves, which contribute to the total displacement field. It is shown theoretically that the correct evaluation of these contributions from the compressional wave is rather difficult due to the almost incompressible nature of tissue. To overcome this problem, it is proposed to apply the curl-operator to the measured displacement field in order to completely remove contributions from the compressional wave. Results from simulations and a breast phantom demonstrate the feasibility of the technique. The in vivo results show a good separation between breast cancer and benign fibroadenoma utilizing the shear modulus. Breast cancer appears on average 2.2 (P<.001) times stiffer. All breast cancer cases showed a good delineation to the surrounding breast tissue with an average elevation of a factor of 3.3 (P< 1.4 x 10(-6)). The results as obtained for the shear viscosity do not indicate to be useful for separating benign from malignant lesions. 相似文献

We have observed a disturbing suppression effect in three-pulse ESEEM and HYSCORE spectra of systems with more than one nucleus coupled to the electron spin. For such systems, the ESEEM signal contains internuclear combination peaks of varying intensity. At the same time, the peaks at the basic ESEEM frequencies are reduced in intensity, up to the point of complete cancellation. For both three-pulse ESEEM and HYSCORE, the amplitude of a peak of a given nucleus depends not only on its modulation depth parameter k and the tau-dependent blind-spot term b, but also on k and b of all other nuclei. Peaks of nuclei with shallow modulations can be strongly suppressed by nuclei with deep modulations. This cross-suppression effect explains the observation that HYSCORE (1)H peaks are often very weak or even undetectable in the presence of strong (14)N peaks. Due to this distortion of intensities, ESEEM spectra have to be analysed very carefully. We present a theoretical analysis of this effect based on the product rules, numerical computations, and illustrative experimental data on Cu(gly)(2). In experiments, the impact of this cross suppression can be alleviated by a proper choice of tau values, remote echo detection, and matched pulses. 相似文献

The lithiation and delithiation process of silicon nanowire arrays (SiNWs) on silicon substrates has been studied with high-resolution electron microscopy. The composition of lithiated SiNWs was revealed, consisting of the unreacted crystalline silicon core and the reacted amorphous Li–Si shell. In particular, the Li–Si shell was comprised of a mixture of amorphous silicon oxide and crystalline silicon, leading to hindrance during Li–Si alloying/dealloying upon cycling. 相似文献
