Changes in the temperatures and entropy of a piezoelectric layer under the electric field and stresses applied to its boundaries (a multicaloric effect) have been investigated. It has been shown that these changes are composed of three terms, which describe the electrocaloric, elastocaloric, and piezoelectrocaloric effects, respectively. If the influence of the strain gradient on the polarization is taken into account, one more term associated with the flexoelectrocaloric effect arises in the entropy change. In this paper we examine the global dynamics of the Kirschner–Panetta model describing the tumor immunotherapy. We give upper and lower ultimate bounds for densities of cell populations involved in this model. We demonstrate for this dynamics that there is a positively invariant polytope in the positive orthant. We present sufficient conditions on model parameters and treatment parameters under which all trajectories in the positive orthant tend to the tumor-free equilibrium point. The last data on the search results for neutrino oscillations in the OPERA experiment and the completed modernization of the PAVICOM facility (Lebedev Physical Institute) for automatic processing of nuclear emulsions of this experiment are presented. A new test application is developed for the PAVICOM to perform all stages of image processing. The application is tested using a GTX570 video card. The processing time for one frame is significantly reduced, which made it possible tomore than tenfold speed up processing. The influence of temperature gradients on the particle size and component composition of solid phases in heterogeneous systems of ammonium chloroplatinum(IV) and chlorhodium(III) complex salts was studied. A Benard cell was implemented as applied to not only homogeneous but also heterogeneous systems. Two contributions to the cocrystallization of rhodium with platinum are distinguishable and kinetically resolved: the formation of nonequilibrium solid solutions by ammonium chlorometalates and equilibrium Ostwald ripening. The notion of a linearly invariant family of mappings of a ball in C was introduced in the article ``Pfaltzgraff J. A., Distortion of locally biholomorphic maps of the n-ball, Complex Variables, 33, 239-253 (1997)'; it generalizes the classical case n=1 studied earlier by Ch. Pommerenke and other authors. In the indicated article, Pfaltzgraff in particular obtained and used a false equality (5.3). Application of this equality also underlies some assertions in other articles. Consequently, some theorems remain unproven. We propose the dimension reduction method which enables us to save the proof and obtain new results on linearly invariant families of mappings of a ball. One of the two variants of producing two-dimensional photonic crystals in silicon is the formation of ordered macropore structures
in a silicon substrate. The characteristic pore dimensions (the diameter and the wall thickness between pores) determine the
wavelength range in which such a pore structure exhibits the properties of a photonic crystal. For the near-infrared region,
these dimensions approach 1 μm or fall in a submicron region. An ordered structure of macropores with such dimensions is formed
in this work using fine focused ion beams to provide the stimulating effect of implanted ions on pore nucleation in given
sites on the silicon substrate surface. Pores are shown to nucleate at sites subjected to ion irradiation even at a low implantation
dose (2×1013 ion/cm2). A model describing the orienting effect of ion irradiation on pore nucleation is proposed.
