Capillary assembly was explored for the precise placement of 25 nm × 70 nm colloidal gold nanorods on prestructured poly(dimethylsiloxane) template surfaces. The concentration of nanorods and cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), the template wettability, and most critically the convective transport of the dispersed nanorods were tuned to study their effect on the resulting assembly yield. It is shown that gold nanorods can be placed into arrayed 120-nm diameter holes, achieving assembly yields as high as 95% when the local concentration of nanorods at the receding contact line is sufficiently high. Regular arrays of gold nanorods have several benefits over randomly deposited nanorod arrangements. Each assembled nanorod resides at a precisely defined location and can easily be found for subsequent characterization or direct utilization in a device. The former is illustrated by collecting scattering spectra from single nanorods and nanorod dimers, followed by subsequent SEM characterization without the need for intricate registration schemes. 相似文献

Computational studies of the interaction of 1,1-dimethylallyl cation with benzene reveal that its potential energy surface has a rich complexity. The lowest energy π-complex, which involves binding of both ends of the cation to the benzene ring, is calculated to be 4.5 kcal mol−1 lower in energy than its related σ-complex. The results provide further support for the idea that π complexation of carbocations is stronger over the periphery of aromatic systems, and offer insight into why biological reactions involving this type of carbocation do not lead via σ-complex formation to electrophilic substitution of the aromatic rings in proteins. 相似文献

Metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) catalyse the hydrolysis of almost all β-lactam antibiotics. We report biophysical and kinetic studies on the São Paulo MBL (SPM-1), which reveal its Zn(ii) ion usage and mechanism as characteristic of the clinically important di-Zn(ii) dependent B1 MBL subfamily. Biophysical analyses employing crystallography, dynamic 19F NMR and ion mobility mass spectrometry, however, reveal that SPM-1 possesses loop and mobile element regions characteristic of the B2 MBLs. These include a mobile α3 region which is important in catalysis and determining inhibitor selectivity. SPM-1 thus appears to be a hybrid B1/B2 MBL. Ketoreductase (KR) activities help determine the stereochemistry of the products of modular polyketide synthases (PKSs). For example, domains eryKR(1) and eryKR(2), contained, respectively, in the first and second extension modules of the erythromycin-producing PKS, reduce 3-ketoacyl-thioester intermediates with opposite stereospecificity. Amino acid motifs that correlate with stereochemical outcome have been identified in KRs. We have used saturation mutagenesis of these motifs in eryKR(1) and eryKR(2), and a microplate-based screen of such mutants for activity against (9R, S)-trans-1-decalone, to identify candidate enzymes potentially altered in stereocontrol. Active mutants were reassayed with (2R, S)-2-methyl-3-oxopentanoic acid N-acetylcysteamine thioester, and the alcohol products were analyzed by chiral HPLC. Variant enzymes were found with either altered substrate selectivity for the (2R) or (2S) substrate or altered stereospecificity of reduction, or both, further highlighting the importance of these motifs in stereochemical control. 相似文献

Highly-functionalised difluorinated cyclooctenones were synthesised from trifluoroethanol using either metallated difluoroenol acetal or carbamate chemistry, followed by a [2,3]-Wittig rearrangement or aldol reaction. Efficient RCM reactions afforded the title compounds which showed rather restricted fluxional behaviour by VT (19)F NMR. Zirconia powders were prepared by forming gels by desiccation of aqueous precursor solutions of zirconium acetate containing nitric or sulfuric acid at pH 2.4 and 1.4 and pyrolyzing the gels to temperatures up to 825°C. The structure development in the gels and solid pyrolysis products was investigated. The crystalline zirconia structures produced monoclinic (m), metastable cubic (c) and tetragonal (t) polymorphs. The structure transition temperatures were strongly dependent on the pH, the anions and the stoichiometry of the zirconium complex in the precursor solution. The monoclinic polymorph fraction in the zirconia formed by pyrolyzing the gel formed from the precursor solution containing sulfuric acid at pH 2.4 to 750°C approaches zero while this ratio in the zirconia formed by pyrolyzing the gel formed from the precursor solution containing nitric acid at pH 1.4 to 825°C is 0.7. 相似文献
