Photoredox-Catalyzed Labeling of Hydroxyindoles with Chemoselectivity (PhotoCLIC) for Site-Specific Protein Bioconjugation

We have developed a novel visible-light-catalyzed bioconjugation reaction, PhotoCLIC, that enables chemoselective attachment of diverse aromatic amine reagents onto a site-specifically installed 5-hydroxytryptophan residue (5HTP) on full-length proteins of varied complexity. The reaction uses catalytic amounts of methylene blue and blue/red light-emitting diodes (455/650 nm) for rapid site-specific protein bioconjugation. Characterization of the PhotoCLIC product reveals a unique structure formed likely through a singlet oxygen-dependent modification of 5HTP. PhotoCLIC has a wide substrate scope and its compatibility with strain-promoted azide-alkyne click reaction, enables site-specific dual-labeling of a target protein.

Addition of mild electrophiles to a Mo[triple bond]N triple bond and nitrile synthesis via metal-mediated N-atom transfer to acid chlorides

The addition of mild electrophiles to the anionic terminal Mo-nitride {[(t)BuOCO]Mo[triple bond]N]Na(DMF)}(2) (1) and the synthesis of nitriles via metal-mediated N-atom transfer is reported. The X-ray structure of a pivaloylimido intermediate indicates the presence of a weakly coordinated DMF molecule. Kinetic studies confirm that cyclometalation and DMF dissociation occur prior to nitrile extrusion.     

Scalar field collapse with an exponential potential

An analogue of the Oppenheimer–Synder collapsing model is treated analytically, where the matter source is a scalar field with an exponential potential. An exact solution is derived followed by matching to a suitable exterior geometry, and an analysis of the visibility of the singularity. In some situations, the collapse indeed leads to a finite time curvature singularity, which is always hidden from the exterior by an apparent horizon.     

Hyperpolarising Pyruvate through Signal Amplification by Reversible Exchange (SABRE)

Hyperpolarisation methods that premagnetise agents such as pyruvate are currently receiving significant attention because they produce sensitivity gains that allow disease tracking and interrogation of cellular metabolism by magnetic resonance. Here, we communicate how signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE) can provide strong ¹³C pyruvate signal enhancements in seconds through the formation of the novel polarisation transfer catalyst [Ir(H)₂(η²‐pyruvate)(DMSO)(IMes)]. By harnessing SABRE, strong signals for [1‐¹³C]‐ and [2‐¹³C]pyruvate in addition to a long‐lived singlet state in the [1,2‐¹³C₂] form are readily created; the latter can be observed five minutes after the initial hyperpolarisation step. We also demonstrate how this development may help with future studies of chemical reactivity.

Colossal Stability of SiB11(BO)12−: An Implication as Potential Electrolyte in High-Voltage Alkali-ion Battery

High-voltage alkali metal-ion batteries (AMIBs) require a non-hazardous, low-cost, and highly stable electrolyte with a large operating potential and rapid ion conductivity. Here, we have reported a halogen-free high-voltage electrolyte based on SiB₁₁(BO)₁₂⁻. Because of the weak π-orbital interaction of −BO as well as the mixed covalent and ionic interaction between SiB₁₁-cage and −BO ligand, SiB₁₁(BO)₁₂⁻ has colossal stability. SiB₁₁(BO)₁₂⁻ possesses extremely high vertical detachment energy (9.95 eV), anodic voltage limit (∼10.05 V), and electrochemical stability window (∼9.95 V). Furthermore, SiB₁₁(BO)₁₂⁻ is thermodynamically stable at high temperatures, and its large size allows for faster cation movement. The alkali salts MSiB₁₁(BO)₁₂ (M=Li, Na, and K) are easily dissociated into ionic components. Electrolytes based on SiB₁₁(BO)₁₂⁻ greatly outperform commercial electrolytes. In short, SiB₁₁(BO)₁₂⁻-based compound is demonstrated to be a high-voltage electrolyte for AMIBs.     

Bayesian accelerated life testing under competing log-location-scale family of causes of failure

This article provides Bayesian analyses of data arising from multi-stress accelerated life testing of series systems. The component log-lifetimes are assumed to independently belong to some log-concave location-scale family of distributions. The location parameters are assumed to depend on the stress variables through a linear stress translation function. Bayesian analyses and associated predictive inference of reliability characteristics at usage stresses are performed using Gibbs sampling from the joint posterior. The developed methodology is numerically illustrated by analyzing a real data set through Bayesian model averaging of the two popular cases of Weibull and log-normal, with the later getting a special focus in this article as a slightly easier example of the log-location-scale family. A detailed simulation study is also carried out to compare the performance of various Bayesian point estimators for the log-normal case.     

Conformally flat collapsing stars in <Emphasis Type="Italic">f</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>) gravity

The present work includes an analytical investigation of a collapsing spherical star in f(R) gravity. The interior of the collapsing star admits a conformal flatness. Information regarding the fate of the collapse is extracted from the matching conditions of the extrinsic curvature and the Ricci curvature scalar across the boundary hypersurface of the star. The radial distribution of the physical quantities such as density, anisotropic pressure and radial heat flux are studied. The inhomogeneity of the collapsing interior leads to a non-zero acceleration. The divergence of this acceleration and the loss of energy through a heat conduction forces the rate of the collapse to die down and the formation of a zero proper volume singularity is realized only asymptotically.
