Gold nanoparticles of variable sizes have been synthesized in toluene employing two-phase (water-toluene) extraction of AuCl4- followed by its reduction with sodium borohydride in the presence of a series of cationic surfactants of a homologous series having the general formula C(n)TAC. The solubility features of the gold particles in the organic solvent have been accounted qualitatively by calculating the van der Waals interaction potential between the particles. The effect of thermal energy and medium dielectric constant on the stability of metal particles has been studied by measuring the surface plasmon resonance. The stabilization of surfactant-mediated gold particles as hydrosol or organosol has been elucidated by considering the double-layer interaction as a function of the dielectric constant of the solvent medium. The influence of the counterion of the phase transfer reagent and stabilizing ligand on the photochemical stability of the gold colloids has been investigated. The fluorescence probe 1-methylaminopyrene (MAP) was considered for the surface functionalization of the gold particles, and it has been found that there is an enhancement of molecular fluorescence from the gold-probe assembly.  相似文献

Mixed micellization of binary and ternary mixtures of anionic and nonionic surfactants, such as lithium dodecyl sulfate, polyoxyethylene(23)laurylether, and polyoxyethylene-tert-octylphenylether, is studied in aqueous solution using tensiometric, conductometric, and spectrophotometric methods. Although tensiometry and conductometry complement each other closely, the spectroscopic critical micellar concentration (cmc) is far from agreement with tensiometric study. Several parameters, e.g., cmc, degree of counterion binding, free energies of micellization, and interfacial adsorption, have been evaluated. Established theories of Clint, Rosen, Rubingh, Motomura, Georgiev, Maeda, and Blankschtein were applied to evaluate the mole fraction of different components in the self-aggregated phase, the interaction parameter, free energy contributions, and expected cmc.  相似文献

This article deals with the various heat source responses in a transversely isotropic hollow cylinder under the purview of three-phase-lag (TPL) generalized thermoelasticity theory. In presence of magnetic field and due to the rotating behavior of the cylinder, the governing equations are redefined for generalized thermoelasticity with thermal time delay. In order to obtain the stress, displacement and temperature field, the field functions are expressed in terms of modified Bessel functions in Laplace transformed domain. When the outer radius of hollow cylinder tends to infinity, the corresponding results are discussed. Finally an appropriate Laplace transform inversion technique is adopted.  相似文献

Application of inorganic nanoparticles in diagnosis and therapy has become a critical component in the targeted treatment of diseases. The surface modification of inorganic oxides is important for providing diversity in size, shape, solubility, long-term stability, and attachment of selective functional groups. This Minireview describes the role of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in the surface modification of oxides and focuses on their biomedical applications. Such a PEGylation of surfaces provides "stealth" characteristics to nanomaterials otherwise identified as foreign materials by human body. The role of PEG as structure-directing agent in synthesis of oxides is also presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we proposed a multidelayed in‐host HIV model to represent the interaction between human immunodeficiency virus and immune response. One delay was considered to incorporate the time required by the virus for various intracellular events to make a host cell productively infective, and the second delay was introduced to take into account the time required for adaptive immune system to respond against infection. We extensively analyzed this multidelayed model analytically and numerically. We show that delay may have both destabilizing and stabilizing effects even when the system contains a single immune response delay. It happens when there exists two sequences of critical values of this delay. If the system starts with stable state in absence of delay, then the smallest value of these critical delays causes instability and the next higher value causes stability. The system may also show stability switching for different values of the virus replication factor. These results demonstrate the possible reasons of intrapatients and interpatients variability of CD4+ T cells and virus counts in HIV‐infected patients.  相似文献

Lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6) nanocrystallites/nanowires have been successfully synthesized using gas phase condensation in arc plasma. Our results show that the LaB6 nanowires have ~20 nm diameter and length of several micrometers. The as-synthesized LaB6 nanocrystallites and nanowires are crystalline in nature. Field emission studies were carried out on as synthesized LaB6 nano-powder deposited on W and Re tips and foils, and also on Si foil substrates under ultra high vacuum. The Fowler–Nordheim plots obtained from the current–voltage characteristics are found to be linear in accordance with the quantum mechanical tunneling phenomenon. High value of field enhancement factor (8177) is observed for LaB6 on Re substrate, indicating that the electron emission is from the nanometric features of the LaB6. Our results show that the arc plasma synthesized LaB6 nanocrystalline film exhibits good emission stability as emitter without severe deviations from the initial set value and also a strong ability to withstand the ion bombardment, which is useful for low operation voltage vacuum micro/nano electronic devices.  相似文献
