Polar oxide substrates for graphene growth: A first-principles investigation of graphene on MgO(111)

Given the recent excitement over the truly two-dimensional carbon “super” material – graphene, there is now much effort and focus on the various possibilities of engineering the band gap of graphene for its device applications. One possible and promising route will be to grow graphene directly on some non-metallic substrates. In this paper, we address the atomic and electronic structure of various graphene structures on the polar MgO(111) using first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. We find that graphene generally interacts strongly with the O-terminated polar oxide surface, forming strong chemical bonds, inferred from both energetics and detailed density-of-states analysis. We compare our theoretical findings with available experimental results, offering a possible direction for future band gap engineering of graphene on such oxide substrates. 相似文献

In this paper, we evaluated the particle dispersion degree of alumina slurry containing a dispersant by solvent nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation and compared it with conventional dispersion evaluation methods such as viscosity, particle size, and sedimentation height measurements. The dispersion of slurry was evaluated via numerical analysis of the transverse relaxation time (T2). The effect of the changes in different parameters of the experiment in terms of milling time, solid loading, and dispersant amount was investigated by NMR relaxation as well as conventional methods. The results of NMR relaxation measurements revealed that T2 correlates well with other dispersion evaluation methods; thus, it is an efficient technique to evaluate the dispersion of alumina slurry, specifically, when studying the effect of the change in milling time and dispersion amount. 相似文献

A recently discovered 2D transition titanium metal carbides also called as MXenes (Ti3C2Tx)-based nanocomposite was prepared with Cu2O through wet precipitation technique, and these materials were further developed as the electrode for sensing glucose by chronoamperometry technique. The prepared MXene-Cu2O (Ti3C2Tx-Cu2O) nanocomposite was characterized by XRD, FTIR, UV–Vis spectroscopy, FE-SEM, EDAX, and Raman spectroscopy. Morphological studies of the composites revealed that the micro-octahedral shape of Cu2O is distributed on the surface of MXene with size larger than bare Cu2O. Further, the prepared composite material was fabricated as a sensing probe, and the electrochemical activities were examined by cyclic voltammetric analysis (CV) and chronoamperometric (CA) methods. From the CV and CA investigation, the current response was higher for the composite than the bare material (Cu2O & MXene) in the presence of glucose. The amperometric investigation of MXene-Cu2O composite for the detection of glucose shows a broad linear range (0.01–30 mM) with a sensitivity of 11.061/μAmM cm?2 and a detection limit of 2.83 μM. Further, the fabricated sensor exhibits good selectivity with interfering species like NaCl, fructose, sucrose, urea, ascorbic acid, lactose, short response time, stability, good reproducibility, and compatibility with human serum sample. From the investigation, the prepared MXene-Cu2O composite is a good candidate for the direct detection of glucose molecules and is also well suitable for clinical diagnosis. 相似文献

AbstractSoft coral, Sinularia sp. had been proven to inherit promising anti-cancer properties against variety of cancer. Current study, Sinularia sp. extract was introduced to Hepatocellular carcinoma (Hep 3B). Cell viability assay indicated the extract exhibit a dose and time dependent cytotoxicity. LC50 exhibited the lowest at 72?h post treatment estimated as 45.3 µg/mL. Morphological alterations including nuclear condensation, cytoplasm shrinkage and deformed cellular shape in treated Hep 3B were observable. Chemometric analysis revealed hydrophobic metabolites were significantly altered. Elevated vitamin D and derivatives tend to up-regulation Ca2+ and ROS subsequently triggering apoptosis. Dysregulated glycerolipids may suggest that they were biotransformed to compensate the needs of phospholipids during cell damage. Perturbation of sphingolipids, ceramide and carbohydrate-conjugated ceramides species increased the release of pro-apoptotic components reside within mitochondria and promote programmed cell death in treated Hep 3B. To conclude, MS-based metabolomics enabled the characterization of Sinularia sp. extract-induced cell death. 相似文献

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value‐added chemicals is a promising strategy to reduce CO2 emission and mitigate climate change. One of the most serious problems in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2R) is the low solubility of CO2 in an aqueous electrolyte, which significantly limits the cathodic reaction rate. This paper proposes a facile method of catholyte‐free electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to avoid the solubility limitation using commercial tin nanoparticles as a cathode catalyst. Interestingly, as the reaction temperature rises from 303 K to 363 K, the partial current density (PCD) of formate improves more than two times with 52.9 mA cm?2, despite the decrease in CO2 solubility. Furthermore, a significantly high formate concentration of 41.5 g L?1 is obtained as a one‐path product at 343 K with high PCD (51.7 mA cm?2) and high Faradaic efficiency (93.3 %) via continuous operation in a full flow cell at a low cell voltage of 2.2 V. 相似文献
