Selective Recognition of Calcium Ion through Liquid Membrane

The mole transport rate of alkaline earth metal ions through a bulk liquid membrane and a supported liquid membrane using a series of proton diionizable acyclic polyethers was measured. Among alkaline earth metal ions, the calcium ion was observed to be selectively transported in both single and competitive transport experiments. Potentiometric titration and solution calorimetric titration also gave calcium selectivity over other alkaline earth metal ions. Acyclic polyether bearing a diethylene glycol unit andn-tetradecyl lipophilic chain at the α position of carboxylic acid affords the best selectivity for the calcium ion in bulk and supported liquid membranes.     

An ultraviolet-curable mold for sub-100-nm lithography

We describe a novel UV-curable mold that is stiff enough for replicating dense sub-100-nm features even with a high aspect ratio. It also allows for flexibility when the mold is prepared on a flexible support such that large area replication can be accomplished. The composite material of the mold is inert to chemicals and solvents. The surface energy is made low with a small amount of releasing agent such that the mold can be removed easily and cleanly after patterning. In addition, the material allows self-replication of the mold. These unique features of the mold material should make the mold quite useful for various patterning purposes.     

Redetermination of (6R,7S,9S,11S)‐(–)‐sparteinium monoperchlorate

The structure of the title compound, C₁₅H₂₇N₂⁺·ClO₄^?, consists of a monoprotonated sparteinium cation and a perchlorate anion. The two tertiary N atoms of the cation, one perchlorate O atom and a H atom form a bifurcated hydrogen bond, the four hydrogen‐bonding atoms being nearly in the same plane.     

Calix[4]crown in dual sensing functions with FRET

A new calix[4]crown chemosensor based on dual sensing probes reveals Pb²⁺ ion selectivity over other metal ions, which arises from a hypsochromic shift of azo units in UV spectrum as well as a fluorescence enhancement of pyrenyl parts in fluorescence spectrum via a suppressed FRET.     

Novel fluorophores: efficient synthesis and photophysical study

[structure: see text] We have synthesized novel fluorophores by using Sonogashira reactions of 1,4-bis(dibromovinyl)benzene and 2,5-bis(dibromovinyl)thiophene with various aromatic bromides. The emission maxima of these fluorophores vary from the indigo blue to the reddish-orange region, depending on the structures of aromatic nuclei and peripheral moieties.     

An approach for quinolines via palladium-catalyzed Heck coupling followed by cyclization

2-Iodoaniline reacts with α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in DMF at 100 °C in the presence of a catalytic amount of a palladium catalyst along with a base to afford the corresponding quinolones or quinolines in moderate to good yields.     

Dicobalt octacarbonyl-catalyzed tandem

Novel 5-5-6 tricyclic compounds containing cyclopentenone have been constructed by the dicobalt octacarbonyl catalyzed tandem [2 + 2 + 1] and [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition reaction between a diyne and two phenylacethylene under CO pressure.     

catena‐Poly[[copper(II)‐μ‐2‐[bis­(2‐pyridylmeth­yl)amino]butyrato‐κ4N,N′,N′′,O:κO′] perchlorate]

The copper(II) ion in the syn–anti carboxyl­ate‐bridged one‐dimensional zigzag chain title complex, {[Cu(C₁₆H₁₈N₃O₂)]ClO₄}_n, exhibits a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal environment. Two N atoms and one carboxyl­ate O atom of the ligand form the basal plane, while the axial positions are filled by an N atom of the ligand and one O atom belonging to the carboxyl­ate group of an adjacent mol­ecule. The crystal packing is enhanced by C—H⋯O(perchlorate) hydrogen bonds.     

Synthesis of nanosized TiO2/SiO2 particles using microwave processes and their photocatalytic activity on the decomposition of orange II

The nanosized titania and TiO₂/SiO₂ particles were prepared by the microwave-hydrothermal method. The effect of physical properties TTIP/TEOS ratio and calcination temperature has been investigated. The major phase of the pure TiO₂ particle is of the anatase structure, and a rutile peak was observed above 800°C. In TiO₂/SiO₂ particles, however, no significant rutile phase was observed, although the calcination temperature was 900°C. No peaks for the silica crystal phase were observed at either silica/titania ratio. The crystallite size of TiO₂/SiO₂ particles decreases as compared to pure TiO₂ at high calcination temperatures. The TiO₂/SiO₂ particles show higher activity on the photocatalytic decomposition of orange II as compared to pure TiO₂ particles.
