The electric quadrupole moment for the 4d(2)D(5/2) state of (88)Sr(+); one of the most important candidates for an optical clock, has been calculated using the relativistic coupled-cluster theory. This is the first application of this theory to determine atomic electric quadrupole moments. The result of the calculation is presented and the important many-body contributions are highlighted. The calculated electric quadrupole moment is (2.94 +/- 0.07)ea(2)(0), where a(o) is the Bohr radius and the electronic charge while the measured value is (2.6 +/- 0.3) ea(2)(0). This is so far the most accurate determination of the electric quadrupole moment for the above mentioned state. We have also calculated the electric quadrupole moments for the metastable 4d(2)D(3/2) state of 88(Sr(+) and for the 3d(2)D(3/2.5/2) and 5d(2)D(3/2.5/2) states of (43)Ca(+) and (138)Ba(+), respectively.  相似文献

We examine the effect of pressure on the nematic to smectic-A N–SmA) transition within the Landau phenomenological theory. The influence of pressure on the N–SmA transition is discussed by varying the coupling between the orientational and translational order parameters. The possibility of the tricritical point at the N–SmA transition is discussed in a phenomenological way. The theoretical predictions are found to be in good qualitative agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

Three rotational bands in 74Kr were studied up to (in one case one transition short of) the maximum spin I(max) of their respective single-particle configurations. Their lifetimes have been determined using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. The deduced transition quadrupole moments reveal a modest decrease, but far from a complete loss of collectivity at the maximum spin I(max). This feature, together with the results of mean field calculations, indicates that the observed bands do not terminate at I = I(max).  相似文献

Summary The neutrino emission from supernova 1987A is being studied by taking into consideration the effect of the magnetic field present in the star. The magnetic field generates an anisotropic feature in the local space-time, which in turn leads to the cancellation of the axial-vector part of the neutrino current. The interaction cross-section of these neutrinos in the course of their interaction with matter on Earth has an inverse square energy dependence. The present work presents the calculations based on this changed cross-section that relates to predictions of the expected number of events at KAMIOKANDE on the basis of the Mont Blanc signal. It might be interesting to take a look into the implications of these results. The author of this paper has agreed to not receive the proofs for correction.  相似文献

Magnetic nanocrystalline MnO particles have been synthesized in a silica glass matrix by the sol-gel method at calcination temperatures up to 1000 °C. EPR spectra of 0.1 mol% MnO doped silica gel and glasses studied in the temperature range 10-290 K show with the exception of those samples calcined at 900 and 1000 °C 6-line characteristic Mn(II) hyperfine (HF) lines. Additionally five spin-forbidden doublets have been observed at 100 K and below. Small spreads in spin Hamiltonian parameters (D and E) imply that the ligand field environments of Mn(II) ions embedded in the silica glass are nearly uniform. Monotonous decrease in HF linewidth in going from 120 °C gel to 800 °C calcined glass has been interpreted as the continuous decrease in population of isolated Mn2+ ions in silica glass matrix resulting in the decrease of magnetic dipolar interactions leading to the observed decrease in HF linewidth. XRD and TEM of sample calcined at 1000 °C shows the presence of nanocrystals of MnO having orthorhombic crystalline phase and sizes about 10 nm. The thermal behavior of magnetization (zero-field-cooled and field-cooled) and magnetic hysteresis of MnO nanocrystals in the 5-300 K temperature interval have demonstrated that the MnO nanocrystals display superparamagnetic-ferromagnetic transition at low temperatures. X-band EPR linewidth data plotted versus inverse of temperature (1/T) for samples calcined at 900 and 1000 °C (EPR recorded in the vicinity of 0.35 T applied field) depict similar transitions.  相似文献

A method of all optical frequency encoded single bit memory unit is proposed and described using difference frequency generation only in non linear materials. The unit can store a single bit in frequency encoded format and thus maintains the same state when input is withdrawn. To change the state of the information of the memory unit the input should be changed. The proposed memory unit employs difference frequency generation for its operation and is very fast, the speed of operation is limited by the difference frequency generation process.  相似文献
