Analysis of a bi-piezoelectric ceramic layer with an interfacial crack subjected to anti-plane shear and in-plane electric loading

The behaviour of a bi-piezoelectric ceramic layer with a centre interfacial crack subjected to anti-plane shear and in-plane electric loading has been studied. The dislocation density functions and the Fourier integral transform method have been employed to eliminate the problem of singular integral equations. The normalized energy release rate, stress and electrical displacement intensity factors, G/G₀,K_III/K_III0 and K_D/K_D0, respectively, were determined for different geometric and property parameters by use of two different crack surface electric boundary conditions, i.e. impermeable and permeable. It has been shown that the effects of the thickness and material constants of the piezoelectric layer on all the three parameters, i.e. G/G₀,K_III/K_III0 and K_D/K_D0 were significant.     

On Triazoles. XIII. The reaction of 5-benzalimino-1,2,4-triazoles with substituted acetyl chlorides

The reaction of Schiff bases prepared from 1- and 2-substituted-5-amino-1,2,4-triazoles with phenoxyacetyl chlorides in the presence of triethylamine and a mixture of phosphorus oxychloride and dichloroacetic acid in dimethylformamide to yield β-lactam 4 , a dihydro-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a]pyrimidine-5(1H)-one 5, a 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5(3H)-one 9 and the corresponding 1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a]pyrimidine-5(1H)-one 10 derivatives was studied.     

The capillary force in micro- and nano-indentation with different indenter shapes

The influence of the indenter shapes and various parameters on the magnitude of the capillary force is studied on the basis of models describing the wet adhesion of indenters and substrates joined by liquid bridges. In the former, we consider several shapes, such as conical, spherical and truncated conical one with a spherical end. In the latter, the effects of the contact angle, the radius of the wetting circle, the volume of the liquid bridge, the environmental humidity, the gap between the indenter and the substrate, the conical angle, the radius of the spherical indenter, the opening angle of the spherical end in the truncated conical indenter are included. The meniscus of the bridge is described using a circular approximation, which is reasonable under some conditions. Different dependences of the capillary force on the indenter shapes and the geometric parameters are observed. The results can be applicable to the micro- and nano-indentation experiments. It shows that the measured hardness is underestimated due to the effect of the capillary force.     

Cycloaddition reactions of 1.3-benzothiazines v synthesis of new tetracyclic ring systems

New tetracyclic derivatives (3a,$\text{b}$, 5, 8) similar to protoberberines, but containing a lactam structural element and other hetero atoms besides the bridge-head nitrogen in rings B and C, were prepared by cycloaddition of 6,7-dimethoxy-2H-1,3-benzothiazine (1a) with $\text{o}$-substituted aromatic carboxylic acid derivatives (2a,$\text{b}$, 4) and from 4- methyl-6,7-dimethoxy-2$\text{H}$-1,3-benzothiazine (1b) with 3.5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride.

- The corresponding $\text{cis}$- and $\text{trans-N}$-methyl- and $\text{N}$-benzyl-5,6- and 4,5-tetramethylenetetrahydro-l,3-oxazines $\text{(5a,b-8a,b)}$were synthesized from $\text{cis}$- and $\text{trans-N}$-methyl and$\text{N}$-benzyl-2- aminomethyl-1-cyclohexanols $\text{1a,b,2a,b}$, from $\text{cis}$- and $\text{trans-N}$-methyl- and $\text{N}$benzyl -2-hydroxymethyl-1-cyclohexylamines$\text{(3a,b,4a,b)}$ by reaction with formaldehyde. The aminoalcohols $\text{1a,2a,3a,b}$and $\text{4a,b}$ were prepared in considerably higher yields than in earlier procedures. NMR spectroscopy showed that the $\text{cis}$ isomers of the synthesized oxazines were conformationally homogeneous in solution, and their preferred conformation (inside or outside) depended on the steric requirement of the groups attached to the anellation points, whereas a bulky C-2 substituent had no influence on the predominant conformation. The structure of $\text{N}$-benzyl-$\text{cis}$-4,5-tetramethylenetetrahydro-1,3-oxaziniumpicrate $\text{(7b)}$. determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, was in agreement with the predominant N-outside conformation of the corresponding base, established by means of NMR spectroscopy.

The rapid, spontaneous epimerization occurring at the C(2) chirality centre of a new diastereomeric (r-4,c-2,c-5)-2-(p-nitrophenyl)-3-methyl-4,5-tetramethylenetetrahydro-1,3-oxazine led to the conclusion that the configuration at C(2) of the bicyclic 1,3-oxazines formed by the cyclization of alicyclic 1,3-aminoalcohols with aldehydes is determined by the dominant conformation of the product. The first X-ray diffraction evidence is given for the N-outside conformation of compounds of this type.
