The synthesis,structure, magnetic and luminescent properties of a new tetranuclear dysprosium (III) cluster

The synthesis and characterization of [Dy₄(dhampH₃)₄(NO₃)₂](NO₃)₂ (1), a new tetranuclear dysprosium (III) complex, is described. The compound was characterized by its X-ray structure, magnetic properties as well as the luminescent spectra. The compound crystallizes in a P1? space group with a zig-zag linear form of geometry. The ac magnetic susceptibilities of the molecule indicate that it is a magnetic molecule with a slow magnetization relaxation. The molecule also exhibits an emission spectrum that was confirmed to be ligand based. These results indicate that this molecule has both a slow magnetization relaxation (that could be potentially a SMM) and luminescent properties.     

Corrosion inhibition of ammonium molybdate for AA6061 alloy in NaCl solution and its synergistic effect with calcium gluconate

The corrosion inhibition of ammonium heltamolybdate (AH) and calcium gluconate (CG) for AA6061 alloy in 3% NaCl solution was investigated by the electrochemical measurements. It indicates that AH inhibits the corrosion of AA6061 alloy and acts as an anodic inhibitor. Maximum inhibition efficiency reaches 74.3% at the concentration of 1 × 10^?4 mol.l^?1 AH. The results of the electrochemical studies reveal AH is physically adsorbed on the AA6061 alloy surface and the adsorption follows Langmuir isotherm. The combination of AH and CG enhances the inhibition efficiency to 95.9%. The enhanced inhibition is attributed to the promotion of AH adsorption by CG. The mixture of AH and CG is a mixed‐type inhibitor and renders the corrosion potential to more positive values. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Palladium‐catalyzed carbonylative cyclization of β‐bromo‐α,β‐unsaturated carboxylic acids with primary amines leading to N‐alkylmaleimides

Cyclic β‐bromo‐α,β‐unsaturated carboxylic acids are carbonylatively cyclized with primary amines under carbon monoxide pressure in MeCN in the presence of a catalytic amount of PdCl₂(PPh₃)₂ to give N‐alkylmaleimides. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Interactive Phenomena of a Rotating Arc and a Premixed CH4 Flame

The interactive phenomena between a rotating arc and a premixed methane/air flame have been investigated. The effects of the rotating arc on the flame were observed: both lean and rich flammability limit was extended with the rotating arc on. More interestingly, the opposite interactions, i.e., the effects of the flame on the rotating arc, were also observed: the arc length, angular speed, and electrical characteristics are affected by the flame. An analysis of the optical emission spectra showed that the rotating arc generates chemically active species such as excited N₂ molecules and O and H atoms. An analysis of the gas products indicated that the concentrations of the major gas products such as CO₂, CO, and H₂ were not significantly affected by the rotating arc, although the flammability limit are significantly extended. Unlike these major gas products, minor products like NO_x emissions increased by an order of magnitude in the presence of a rotating arc under certain air/fuel conditions.     

Mu+H2 and Mu+D2 reaction kinetics from 480 To 675 K

This paper reports preliminary new measurements of the thermal reaction rate constants of muonium (Mu) with hydrogen and deuterium gases in the range 480–675 K. From Arrhenius plots of the measured reaction rate constants new values of the pre-exponential factors log₁₀ (A) and activation energies E_a have been determined for these reactions, representing a significant improvement over earlier results.     

Shortening of travelling-wave-amplified spontaneous emission by a transversal pumping scheme

An experimental investigation on shortening of travelling-wave ASE employing a transversal pumping is presented. A N₂ laser with =337.1 nm, pulsewidth: 700 ps is used as a pump source. An ASE pulse with duration of 45, 55 and 45 ps from dye solution of Rh 6G, Rh B and C311, respectively, is obtained. Pulse shapes of output signals generated from these solutions in three different pumping schemes are compared.
