Spectroscopic and biological approach of Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazone

Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes having the general composition [M(L)(2)X(2)] [where L=2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, M=Ni(II) and Cu(II), X=Cl(-), NO(3)(-) and 1/2 SO(4)(2-)] have been synthesized. All the metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment, mass, IR, EPR and electronic spectral studies. The magnetic moment measurements of the complexes indicate that all the complexes are of high-spin type. On the basis of spectral studies an octahedral geometry has been assigned for Ni(II) complexes whereas tetragonal geometry for Cu(II) except [Cu(L)(2)SO(4)] which posseses five coordinated geometry. The ligand and its metal complexes were screened against phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria in vitro.     

Biohybrid nanogels

Biohybrid nanogels are crosslinked colloidal networks that consist of biological and synthetic polymers as building blocks. Such polymer colloidal particles attracted much attention in recent years mainly due to their outstanding properties and huge application potential that by far overcome classical nanogels or microgels prepared from water-soluble synthetic polymers. Chelation-control in the formal [3+3] cyclization of 1,3-bis-(silyloxy)-1,3-butadienes with 1-hydroxy-5-silyloxy-hex-4-en-3-ones. One-pot synthesis of 3-aryl-3,4-dihydroisocoumarins

The [3+3] cyclization of 1,3-bis(silyloxy)-1,3-butadienes with 1-hydroxy-5-silyloxy-hex-4-en-3-ones resulted in the one-pot formation of 3-aryl-3,4-dihydroisocoumarins. The reactions proceeded by regioselective cyclization to give 6-(2-aryl-2-chloroethyl)salicylates, which underwent a silica gel-mediated lactonization. The cyclizations of protected 1-amino-5-silyloxy-hex-4-en-3-ones proved to be not regioselective.     

Bis(indenyl)titanium(IV) and zirconium(IV) complexes of monofunctional bidentate salicylidimines

Dichlorobis(indenyl)-titanium(IV) and -zirconium(IV), (C₉H₇)₂TiCl₂ and (C₉H₇)₂ZrCl₂, react with bidentate Schiff bases such as salicylidene aniline, salicylidene-o-toluidine, salicylidene-m-toluidine and salicylidene-p-toluidine in a 1:1 molar ratio in refluxing tetrahydrofuran in the presence of triethylamine to yield complexes of the type (C₉H₇)₂Ti(SB)Cl and (C₉H₇)₂Zr(SB)Cl, respectively where SB is the anion of the corresponding Schiff base, SBH. The new derivatives have been characterised on the basis of their elemental analyses, conductance measurements and spectral (IR, ¹H NMR and electronic) studies.     

Dissociation of benzene dication [C6H6]2+: exploring the potential energy surface

The singlet potential energy surface for the dissociation of benzene dication has been explored, and its three major dissociation channels have been studied: C6H6(2+) --> C3H3(+) + C3H3(+), C4H3(+) + C2H3(+), and C5H3(+) + CH3(+). The calculated energetics suggest that the products will be formed with considerable translational energy because of the Coulomb repulsion between the charged fragments. The calculated energy release in the three channels shows a qualitative agreement with the experimentally observed kinetic energy release. The formation of certain intermediates is found to be common to the three dissociation channels.     

Synthesis of fluorinated 2,3-dihydropyran-4-ones by cyclocondensation of 1,3-dicarbonyl dianions with aldehydes

The reaction of the dianion of 1,1,1-trifluoro-pentane-2,4-dione with aldehydes and subsequent addition of hydrochloric acid afforded 2,3-dihydro-6-trifluoromethyl-pyran-4-ones. The reaction of the dianion of acetylacetone with fluorinated benzaldehydes gave the corresponding fluorinated 2-aryl-2,3-dihydro-6-methyl-pyran-4-ones. All reactions proceeded in very good yield and with very good regioselectivity.

Site-selective Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of 2,3,4,5-tetrabromofuran

Suzuki-Miyaura reactions of 2,3,4,5-tetrabromofuran allow a convenient and site-selective synthesis of mono-, di- and tetraarylfurans which are not readily available by other methods.     

A Study of Separable Solutions of a Generalized Burgers Equation

This paper concerns the separable solutions of a generalized Burgers equation. Existence of separable solutions to the generalized Burgers equation is proved under certain conditions. A careful numerical study shows that these separable solutions of the generalized Burgers equation describe the large time asymptotic behavior of solutions of initial boundary value problems.
