Electrospun \(\hbox {TiO}_2\) and Ce-doped \(\hbox {TiO}_2\) nanofibers were prepared with 0.5, 2.0 and 8.0 % weight Ce. The structural properties and phase composition were characterized using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES) at the Ti K-edge. The undoped nanofibers are composed of an assembly of \(\hbox {TiO}_2\) nanoparticles and their crystal structure is a mixture of anatase and rutile phases with an anatase:rutile volume ratio close to 3:1. As Ce is introduced, the nanoparticles decrease in size and the rutile phase volume decreases. Ce \(\hbox {L}_3\) -edge XANES probed the local structure of Ce dopants. At 0.5 % Ce, most Ce ions are incorporated in the \(\hbox {Ce}^{3+}\) charge state but, at 2 % Ce, the majority are \(\hbox {Ce}^{4+}\) . Visible light absorption indicated that \(\hbox {Ce}^{3+}\) act as shallow acceptors that only participate in absorption of wavelengths below 420 nm but \(\hbox {Ce}^{4+}\) impurity states are associated with absorption of wavelengths up to 550 nm. Photocatalytic performance of the nanofibers was assessed by measuring the degradation of adsorbed Rhodamine B in aqueous solution under visible and ultraviolet light. The 0.5 % Ce-doped \(\hbox {TiO}_2\) nanofiber showed the best visible-light photocatalytic activity, which is probably due to the majority presence of \(\hbox {Ce}^{3+}\) . At higher Ce concentration, the photocatalytic reaction rate was lower than undoped nanofibers, indicating that recombination at the \(\hbox {Ce}^{4+}\) sites is rate limiting.  相似文献

There are a number of astrophysical environments in which the path of nucleosynthesis proceeds through proton-rich nuclei. These nuclei have traditionally not been available as beams, and thus proton-capture reactions on these nuclei could only be studied indirectly. At the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF), some of the first direct measurements of (p, $ \gamma$ ) cross-sections on radioactive beams have been made. The Daresbury Recoil Separator (DRS) has been used to separate the recoils of interest from the unreacted primary beam and identify them in an isobutane-filled ionization counter. First data from 17F (p, $ \gamma$ 18Ne and 7Be (p, $ \gamma$ 8B measurements are presented.  相似文献

The parity-violating (PV) asymmetry of inclusive π- production in electron scattering from a liquid deuterium target was measured at backward angles. The measurement was conducted as a part of the G0 experiment, at a beam energy of 360 MeV. The physics process dominating pion production for these kinematics is quasifree photoproduction off the neutron via the Δ0 resonance. In the context of heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory, this asymmetry is related to a low-energy constant d(Δ)- that characterizes the parity-violating γNΔ coupling. Zhu et al. calculated d(Δ)- in a model benchmarked by the large asymmetries seen in hyperon weak radiative decays, and predicted potentially large asymmetries for this process, ranging from A(γ)-=-5.2 to +5.2 ppm. The measurement performed in this work leads to A(γ)-=-0.36±1.06±0.37±0.03 ppm (where sources of statistical, systematic and theoretical uncertainties are included), which would disfavor enchancements considered by Zhu et al. proportional to V(ud)/V(us). The measurement is part of a program of inelastic scattering measurements that were conducted by the G0 experiment, seeking to determine the N-Δ axial transition form factors using PV electron scattering.  相似文献

Models of baryon structure predict a small quadrupole deformation of the nucleon due to residual tensor forces between quarks or distortions from the pion cloud. Sensitivity to quark versus pion degrees of freedom occurs through the Q2 dependence of the magnetic (M1+), electric (E1+), and scalar (S1+) multipoles in the gamma*p-->Delta(+)-->p pi(0) transition. We report new experimental values for the ratios E(1+)/M(1+) and S(1+)/M(1+) over the range Q2 = 0.4-1.8 GeV2, extracted from precision p(e,e(')p)pi(0) data using a truncated multipole expansion. Results are best described by recent unitary models in which the pion cloud plays a dominant role.  相似文献

Optical guided mode observations of the transient director profile (optical tensor distribution) during the relaxation of a 90 degrees twisted nematic cell directly reveals backflow. In the first 6 ms of the relaxation process, after a voltage across the cell is removed, the midplane tilt of the director increases, reaching a maximum value of 101 degrees at 1.4 ms. This increase in midplane tilt is attributed to coupling between fluid flow (backflow) and director reorientation. A 270 degrees twisted state of the opposite handedness to the 90 degrees twisted state found at equilibrium is shown to exist during the backflow period. Good fits of theoretical models with experimentally determined time dependent director profiles yield the viscosity coefficients.  相似文献

An inertial-confinement-fusion (ICF) concept using two 60-MA Z pinches to drive a cylindrical hohlraum to 220 eV has been recently proposed. The first capsule implosions relevant to this concept have been performed at the same physical scale with a lower 20-MA current, yielding a 70+/-5 eV capsule drive. The capsule shell shape implies a polar radiation symmetry, the first high-accuracy measurement of this type in a pulsed-power-driven ICF configuration, within a factor of 1.6-4 of that required for scaling to ignition. The convergence ratio of 14-21 is to date the highest in any pulsed-power ICF system.  相似文献

Precision capacitance dilatometry provides a sensitive measure of the thermal strain developed in a sample undergoing a structural distortion with its varying temperature. The A15 structure compounds, V3Si and Nb3Sn, are well known to undergo distortion from their cubic structures at room temperature to tetragonal structures (c/a > 1 for V3Si and c/a < 1 for Nb3Sn) at low temperatures. In the past, highly anomalous thermal expansion behaviour recorded for these materials has been attributed to a strongly anharmonic lattice potential manifesting itself in unusually high, and strongly temperature-dependent, Grüneisen parameters. Further studies on polycrystalline material revealed this anomalous expansion to be highly anisotropic at temperatures for which, according to conventional diffraction data, the materials are cubic. This behaviour was linked to control of sample morphology by a residual stress field resulting from sample preparation.

More recent experiments, in which the transformation morphology has been controlled by the application of external stresses to single crystal V3Si and polycrystalline samples of Nb3Sn and Nb3(Sn1-x Sb x ), have confirmed the occurrence of significant anisotropy in the thermal strain in the cubic phase, well above the structural transformation.

We link this departure from cubic symmetry with the well-known soft-mode character of these materials and the associated “central peak” scattering which is also observed well above the transformation temperature. We are led to propose that the “central peak” is the precursor to a Bragg reflection for the transformation structure. This coincidence between “central peak” scattering and the reciprocal lattice for the transformed phase in Ti-Ni has been termed a “ghost lattice”.  相似文献

The brains of Long Evans shaker (les) rats, a model of dysmyelination, and their age- matched controls were studied by ex-vivo q-space diffusion imaging (QSI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). The QSI and DTI indices were computed from the same acquisition. The les and the control brains were studied at different stages of maturation and disease progression. The mean displacement, the probability for zero displacement and kurtosis were computed from QSI data while the fractional anisotropy (FA) and the eigenvalues were computed from DTI. It was found that all QSI indices detect the les pathology, at all stages of maturation, while only some of the DTI indices could detect the les pathology. The QSI mean displacement was larger in the les group as compared with their age-matched controls while the probability for zero displacement and the kurtosis were both lower all indicating higher degree of restriction in the control brains. Since all the DTI eigenvalues were higher in the les brains as compared to controls, the less efficient DTI measure for discerning the les pathology was found to be the FA. Clearly, the most sensitive DTI parameter to the les pathology is λ3, i.e. the minimal diffusivity. Since the QSI and DTI data were obtained from the same acquisition, despite the somewhat higher SNR of the QSI data compared to the DTI data, it seems that the higher diagnostic capacity of the QSI data in this experimental model of dysmyelination, originates mainly from the higher diffusing weighting of the QSI data.  相似文献

We report on the extraction of the structure functions F2 and DeltaxF(3) = xF(nu)(3)-xF(nu;)(3) from CCFR nu(mu)-Fe and nu;(mu)-Fe differential cross sections. The extraction is performed in a physics model-independent (PMI) way. This first measurement of DeltaxF(3), which is useful in testing models of heavy charm production, is higher than current theoretical predictions. The ratio of the F2 (PMI) values measured in nu(mu) and mu scattering is in agreement (within 5%) with the predictions of next-to-leading-order parton distribution functions using massive charm production schemes, thus resolving the long-standing discrepancy between the two sets of data.  相似文献
