Catalytically active MnOx species have been reported to form in situ from various Mn‐complexes during electrocatalytic and solution‐based water oxidation when employing cerium(IV) ammonium ammonium nitrate (CAN) oxidant as a sacrificial reagent. The full structural characterization of these oxides may be complicated by the presence of support material and lack of a pure bulk phase. For the first time, we show that highly active MnOx catalysts form without supports in situ under photocatalytic conditions. Our most active 4MnOx catalyst (~0.84 mmol O2 mol Mn?1 s?1) forms from a Mn4O4 bearing a metal–organic framework. 4MnOx is characterized by pair distribution function analysis (PDF), Raman spectroscopy, and HR‐TEM as a disordered, layered Mn‐oxide with high surface area (216 m2g?1) and small regions of crystallinity and layer flexibility. In contrast, the SMnOx formed from Mn2+ salt gives an amorphous species of lower surface area (80 m2g?1) and lower activity (~0.15 mmol O2 mol Mn?1 s?1). We compare these catalysts to crystalline hexagonal birnessite, which activates under the same conditions. Full deconvolution of the XPS Mn2p3/2 core levels detects enriched Mn3+ and Mn2+ content on the surfaces, which indicates possible disproportionation/comproportionation surface equilibria.  相似文献

Model studies of prebiotic chemistry have revealed compelling routes for the formation of the building blocks of proteins and RNA, but not DNA. Today, deoxynucleotides required for the construction of DNA are produced by reduction of nucleotides catalysed by ribonucleotide reductases, which are radical enzymes. This study considers potential non‐enzymatic routes via intermediate radicals for the ancient formation of deoxynucleotides. In this context, several mechanisms for ribonucleotide reduction, in a putative H2S/HS. environment, are characterized using computational chemistry. A bio‐inspired mechanistic cycle involving a keto intermediate and HSSH production is found to be potentially viable. An alternative pathway, proceeding through an enol intermediate is found to exhibit similar energetic requirements. Non‐cyclical pathways, in which HSS. is generated in the final step instead of HS., show a markedly increased thermodynamic driving force (ca. 70 kJ mol?1) and thus warrant serious consideration in the context of the prebiotic ribonucleotide reduction.  相似文献

Materials analysis and characterization can provide important information as evidence in legal proceedings. The potential of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for the discrimination of glass fragments for forensic applications is presented here. The proposed method is based on the fact that glass materials can be characterized by their unique spectral fingerprint. Taking advantage of the multielement detection capability and minimal to no sample preparation of LIBS, we compared glass spectra from car windows using linear and rank correlation methods. Linear correlation combined with the use of a spectral mask, which eliminates some high-intensity emission lines from the major elements present in glass, provides effective identification and discrimination at a 95% confidence level.  相似文献

In perfect normal MgAl2O4 spinel the Mg2+ ions occupy tetrahedral 8a sites and Al3+ ions occupy octahedral 16d sites. In reality some cations are exchanged between the cation sublattices forming pairs of antisite defects and thus a degree of “inversion”. Here atomic simulation is used to investigate the influence that antisite defects have on the populations of other intrinsic defects, those associated with Schottky and Frenkel reactions. One consequence is that the total magnesium interstitial concentration is increased substantially over the aluminium interstitial concentration and the magnesium vacancy concentration is increased over the aluminium vacancy concentration but to a much smaller extent. The split structures of isolated interstitial defects and the stability of various defect clusters are also discussed.  相似文献

Strategies to create thin films using layer-by-layer methods use oppositely charged polymeric polyelectrolytes for both or at least one component to beneficially exploit multitopic electrostatic interactions between the deposited layers with opposite charges. In contrast, the electrostatic deposition of tetracationic 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(1'-methyl-4'-pyridinio)porphyrin tetra(p-toluenesulfonate) (TMPyP(4+)) with tetraanionic polyoxometalates such as EuPW(11)O(39)(4-) or SiW(12)O(40)(4-) onto charged substrates, such as mica, or polar substrates, such as glass and indium-tin oxide (ITO), demonstrates that the use of polymeric components is not a priori necessary. The use of molecules in sequential dipping approaches requires a careful balance in the interaction energies between the oppositely charged molecules, as demonstrated by the observation that a tetraanionic porphyrin such as 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin does not form layers with TMPyP(4+). In the present case, these systems require several rounds of dipping to obtain films of uniform coverage and durability. The thin films deposited onto glass, quartz, ITO, and mica are surprisingly robust, since they are not removed by sonication in either organic solvents or 100 mM NaCl.  相似文献

Pseudorotaxane complexes of squaraine dyes and tetralactam macrocycles are converted into permanently interlocked rotaxane structures using copper-catalyzed and copper-free cycloaddition reactions with bulky stopper groups. The photophysical properties of the encapsulated squaraine depend on the structure of the macrocycle. In one case, squaraine rotaxanes are produced in near-quantitative yields and with intense near-IR fluorescence. In another case, squaraine fluorescence is greatly diminished upon macrocyclic encapsulation but the signal can be restored by dye displacement with anions.  相似文献

Sirtuins are critical regulators of many cellular processes, including insulin secretion, the cell cycle, and apoptosis. Sirtuins are associated with a variety of age-associated diseases such as type II diabetes, obesity, and Alzheimer's disease. A thorough understanding of sirtuin chemical mechanisms will aid toward developing novel therapeutics that regulate metabolic disorders and combat associated diseases. In this review, we discuss the unique deacetylase mechanism of sirtuins and how this information might be employed to develop inhibitors and other molecular probes for therapeutic and basic research applications. We also cover physiological regulation of sirtuin activity and how these modes of regulation may be exploited to manipulate sirtuin activity in live cells. Development of molecular probes and drugs that specifically target sirtuins will further understanding of sirtuin biology and potentially afford new treatments of several human diseases.  相似文献

We describe in full the first synthesis of the potent insect antifeedant azadirachtin through a highly convergent approach. An O-alkylation reaction is used to unite decalin ketone and propargylic mesylate fragments, after which a Claisen rearrangement constructs the central C8-C14 bond in a stereoselective fashion. The allene which results from this sequence then enables a second critical carbon-carbon bond forming event whereby the [3.2.1] bicyclic system, present in the natural product, is generated via a 5-exo-radical cyclisation process. Finally, using knowledge gained through our early studies into the reactivity of the natural product, a series of carefully designed steps completes the synthesis of this challenging molecule.  相似文献

Bacterial resistance to antibiotics, particularly to multiple drug resistant antibiotics, is becoming cause for significant concern. The only really viable course of action is to discover new antibiotics with novel mode of actions. Thiazolyl peptides are a class of natural products that are architecturally complex potent antibiotics but generally suffer from poor solubility and pharmaceutical properties. To discover new thiazolyl peptides potentially with better desired properties, we designed a highly specific assay with a pair of thiazomycin sensitive and resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus, which led to the discovery of philipimycin, a new thiazolyl peptide glycoside. It was isolated along with an acid-catalyzed degradation product by bioassay-guided fractionation. Structure of both compounds was elucidated by extensive application of 2D NMR, 1D TOCSY, and HRESIFT-MS/MS. Both compounds showed strong antibacterial activities against gram-positive bacteria including MRSA and exhibited MIC values ranging from 0.015 to 1 microg/mL. Philipimycin was significantly more potent than the degradation product. Both compounds showed selective inhibition of protein synthesis, indicating that they targeted the ribosome. Philipimycin was effective in vivo in a mouse model of S. aureus infection exhibiting an ED50 value of 8.4 mg/kg. The docking studies of philipimycin suggested that a part of the molecule interacts with the ribosome and another part with Pro23, Pro22, and Pro26 of L11 protein, which helped in explaining the differential of activities between the sensitive and resistant strains. The design and execution of the bioassay, the isolation, structure, in vitro and in vivo antibacterial activity, and docking studies of philipimycin and its degradation product are described.  相似文献
