Heterocyclic bioantioxidants. 2. Interaction of 3-nitro-4-substituted coumarins with mercaptans

3-Nitro-4-chlorocoumarin forms 3-nitro-4-substituted coumarins when it reacts with an equimolar quantity of benzyl mercaptan or thiosalicylic acid; with excess benzyl mercaptan, it forms 3,4-di-S-benzyl coumarin. 3-Nitro-4-methoxycoumarin under the same conditions, with an equimolar ratio of reagents, forms a mixture of monosubstituted and disubstituted products. Radical-chain reactions of CCl4 with hydrocarbons in the presence of silica-immobilized copper-containing catalysts

The activities of two catalytic systems toward the exchange reaction of CCl₄ with hydrocarbons are compared: a copper chloride complex with DMF and polycopperphenylsiloxane (PCPS). PCPS is a very stable catalyst. It completely preserves its catalytic activity after six catalytic cycles. Competitive reactions with the pairs of hydrocarbons suggested a radical-chain mechanism for the title reaction for both catalysts.     

O,N-Dimethylation of 5,6-dihydroxynicotinic acid

Alkylation of salts ofN-(β-hydroxyalkyl)-N′-hydroxydiazeneN-oxides with alkyl halides and dimethyl sulfate

Salts ofN-(β-hydroxyalkyl)-N′-hydroxydiazeneN-oxides, RCH(OH)CH₂N(O)=NO⁻ M⁺ (R=Me, Prⁱ, or Bu^t; and M=Li, Na, K, Ag, NH₄, or Me₄N), were prepared. Their alkylation with alkyl halides R′X (X=Cl, Br, or I) and dimethyl sulfate was studied. Generally, alkylation afforded mixtures ofN-(β-hydroxyalkyl)-N′-alkoxydiazeneN-oxides RCH(OH)CH₂N(O)=NOR′ andO-alkyl-N-(β-hydroxyalkyl)-N-nitrosohydroxylamines RCH(OH)CH₂N(NO)OR′. Fluorine absorption spectra and some fluorides in condensed state

The absorption spectra of liquid F₂, NF₃, N₂F₄, CF₄, BF₃, NF₃, SF₆ have been obtained at diminished temperatures in the near ultra-violet region of the spectrum. It is shown that the absorption spectrum does not differ from the spectra in the gaseous phase, therefore the elementary absorption act is characterized by the cross section of photon absorption by an individual molecule. The absorption cross sections of the above mentioned molecules are represented in the liquid phase, which do not differ strongly from absorption cross sections of these molecules in the gaseous phase. The dependence of the absorption cross sections of liquid fluorine on its concentrations in solutions with N₂, Ar, NF₃, O₂ at - 196°C has been studied. The cross sections of photon absorption by the fluoride molecule in different liquid media with small fluorine concentrations have been obtained.

Form of the dihedral angle dependence of the spin-spin coupling constant JHNNH

Cyclic hydrazides (derivatives of phtalhydrazide,pyrozolidone-3, indazolone, cyclic hydrazide camphoric acid) are studied by the NMR¹H method. The size of the dihedral HNNH angle of several model compounds (pyrozolidone-3, cyclic hydrazide norcamphoric acid) are calculated by the MINDO/3 SSF MO LCAO method. It is shown that in the hydrazides with HNNH dihedral angle 0–70° the magnitude of the HNNH spin-spin interaction constant does not exceed 1 Hz. Low-temperature reaction of magnesium with fluorobenzene

The low-temperature reaction of magnesium with fluorobenzene has been investigated. Joint condensation of magnesium and fluorobenzene vapours at low temperatures quantitatively gave phenylmagnesium fluoride in one stage.
